so i'd say its been underperforming since day 1... especially seeing as they've never discussed actual sales #s.

Execs are not only throwing Bungie under the bus.. they are driving the bus back and forth over Bungie 4 or 5 times. LOL.

I mean, Bungie kinda deserves it with the state Destiny 2 launched in.
They already had to turn around Destiny 1. People are only willing to give you so much slack before they abandon you for another franchise where they don't need to buy 3 expansions before getting a quality game.

I don't see why you say that, Jimmy. It is indisputably the highest quality product they've put out, regardless of commercial performance.

I wonder what this means for Y3, expansion sales always kinda suck compared to the vanilla release, so a 2nd expansion 2 years in might be sketchy from a business perspective. Perhaps B team on Y3 and try for a definitive D3?

ATVI talks exact money and dollar values when a product is performing to expectations or over-performing.

OK, but that omission has nothing to do with that quote. And I think the numbers has to do with the fact its a published title and not a title they own like Call of Duty? I highly doubt after how many content releases, not a single one has exceed expectations.

depends on the details of the contract they have with Bungie.

After paying for Led Zeppelin and Paul Mccartney to promote D1 they went to the Beastie Boys in D2. Had D1 exceeded expectations we'd be getting more legendary musicians ... not the Beastie Boys.

Zeppelin and Mccartney transcend music and are cultural icons. Isn't Mccartney knighted or something? like he is called Sir Paul Mccartney? so they got an english knight on D1 and then we go to the Beastie Boys for D2. umm , ya.

When a franchise is financially succeeding the promo budget goes up.. not down.

my hypothesis is that the Destiny franchise did not meet its commercial expectations during the D1 era due to the lack of financial information provided by its performance and the substantial decrease in marketing budget assigned to D2.

D1 Vanilla : Mccartney writes and sings "Hope for the Future". Led Zeppelin song.
D1 Taken King : Zeppelin .. no Mccartney.
D2 : Beastie Boys
D2 Forsaken: ? ? ? nothing?

The Led Zeppelin deal alone probably cost more than the entire Foresaken marketing budget.

We now know that even though Foresaken was the #1 seller in September 2018 beating out Spiderman on the PS4 this was not a "commercial success" in ATVI's view. Therefore, commercial expectations for this franchise are sky high.
