Probably not. I belong to the PC gaming master race and generally look down upon the console plebs. i was like that before i realized i could put the damn thing on my tv and when a game started or something i could use it as a handheld, or even go to the bathroom
besides Zelda: BoTW being the greatest game ive ever played, is that good and perfect.

Portability has become so important to me. I've had laptops since I was 11-12 years old (26 now) and I could never go back to a desktop. The Switch (and to a lesser degree the Wii U) being handheld (or possibility of handheld) is the best thing that could happen imo. I haven't played either on a big screen, ever, even if I had a TV nearby and everything.

I mostly play in portable mode, but i do dock it once in a while
but yes, portability is huge
as much as my Vega56 + 1700X let me play Doom at 1440p / 120+fps, the switch let me play doom while walking

Maybe Mario Odyssey? I haven't tried the multiplayer but it would be easy for the four year old to feel like he's playing without really having to do much, which in my experience is what 4 year olds often want out of video games.
I haven't tried ARMS but that seems like it might be fun. 1, 2, Switch is a bad game in general but little kids would probably like it a lot. There's probably other stuff on the online store they'd like (iirc they put some Street Fighter games and a bunch of indie games in there). Not multiplayer (yet), but I would have loved Stardew Valley as a kid
Edit: minecraft?

I may need to give Zelda another go. I remember how hyped Ocarina of Time was, and was just bored stiff playing it.

OCARINA OF TIME IS WAY-OVERRATED.

Relative to other Zelda games I might agree. In an absolute sense, I think you just don't like that kind of game if you weren't into OoT.
BotW is a pretty big departure for the Zelda series, though, so you might give it a shot anyway.

What does a game make it overrated?

Same. Breath of the wild is 100% worth your time. Many people describe what I experienced, which is roughly along the lines of:
"I thought I could never be as entranced by a game as I was when I was 10 because of age. Somehow, breath of the wild overcame that and I felt like I was a kid again, unable to put the game down". It is a very uniquely fun game.
Also, for an awesome family game, consider getting "Overcooked". It is a super fun little team game.

I recently got a switch and got the binding of Isaac with it, never have I had so much fun with a handheld game. Being able to play Isaac on the go is amazing.

Ocarina of Time overrated ?
Ok, that's enough internet for today

I just got the switch 2 weeks ago. Just have Odyssey but I'm loving the system. Playing it on the TV, it feels like just another underpowered Nintendo console, but playing it in kick-stand or portable mode is just mindblowing. The HD Rumble feels nice. The motion controls.. I dunno if it's genuinely good or if I'm just having fun flailing around like an idiot, but I'm loving it so far. My only wish is that Stardew Valley had motion controls.
I think devs need to be mindful about the hybrid nature of the console. I was playing the Octopath demo, and as beautiful as the game is, the text was tiny in portable mode. The game looked perfect on the TV, but very difficult to play in kickstand mode. On the DS/3DS, there's only one way to play it so devs are typically very good with blowing up the text to a readable size. It would be cool if the text size was different in TV mode and portable mode to make it more readable. I understand that having giant lettering that takes up half the screen looks silly on the TV, but it's necessary in portable

I played Odyssey 2-player with my brother. It's horrible (but hilarious, we were having fun). It's very difficult trying to do basic things like looking around. Your kids might hate each other after playing Mario Odyssey together

Having different tastes and preferences = Overrated, clearly

Welp, splurged on a Switch along with BotW and Odyssey for my GF. That's half a month's paycheck. Looking forward to Christmas.

People who played OoT when it launched will praise it to high heaven. People who play OoT 15 years after launch for the first time ever, based on the recommendations from the people mentioned above, will think it sucks bigtime.
Unfortunately I'm in the latter category, having played OoT after playing Twilight Princess (and every single handheld zelda), it's a solid last place on my list of best zelda games.

Why should they think that? How does OoT gameplay or story change after 15 years? Or are you saying that you rate a game based on its graphics?
|
I played it on virtual console on Wii, I suppose the 3DS remake would've prevented some of the frustrations I had.
Controls were bad, graphics were terrible (both of these are probably fixed on the 3DS so that's good), gameplay was nothing special (considering I had already played all the later zeldas who have the exact same gameplay but better), and the story is average at best.
I get that it was revolutionary for its time but come on guys lol. Very much with xdaunt here, the game aged terribly.

That's just like your opinion man. I disagree entirely.
