Backwards compatibility between NES//SNES and SNES//N64 was not critically important. The NES and SNES were dirt cheap at the end of their respective console cycles. It was cool to have the SNES on 1 TV and the N64 on the better TV.

I personally wasn't a big fan of Hogwarts Legacy. I played it on the PS5 so the graphics were super. But the story and the gameplay, the combat especially, were average at best. You need to be a BIG harry potter fan to look past the mediocrity and actually enjoy the game imo.

Some bonus points for trying to cater to the completionists among us (me included), but spamming Revelio every 5 meters to find invisible scrolls ain't it.

Honestly a bit surprised to see you say the story is amazing, Bisudagger, I'm interested to hear if your opinion changes on that front later in the game.

e: not including Quidditch because they were developping a stand-alone Quidditch game alongside it is pretty criminal as well. Even the shitty old PC games had some form of Quidditch.

I play with my 7 and 4 year old watching. So seeing their enthusiasm during conversations and cut scenes definitely adds to the hype while playing the game. They haven’t seen any Harry Potter movies so it’s definitely new to them too. I do think the voice acting and dialog versus reading text for conversations is really well done.

Regarding combat, I think there is a ton of potential in the combat system for the next game they make. I love the d-directional micro to switch spell sets mid combat to do different attack styles is really cool and the battle arena areas are really fun. I like the one giant boss with mobs flow where you are focusing down an ogre while doing perfect dodge and deflection against all the random unseen attacks.

As for the lack of quidditch, it’s a slight bummer sure, but the broom flying, courses, and upgrade missions are still enjoyable.

BABYDAGGER IS SEVEN YEARS OLD?!?! Time is a bitch.

With Nintendo ensuring that its supply can meet the inevitable demand, it looks like all signs are pointing towards the Switch's successor continuing the Switch's reign, through 2025 and perhaps beyond that, and leaving PlayStation and Xbox in the dust.

Component Shortage No Longer An Issue For Switch Successor, Says Nintendo

In a translation via IGN, Furukawa stated the following: “Although we were unable to produce sufficient quantities of Nintendo Switch hardware last year and the year before due to a shortage of semiconductor components, this situation has now been resolved. At this time, we do not believe that the shortage of components will have a significant impact on the production of the successor model.”

This is certainly good news, then, for those hoping to pick up the console on day one (whenever that is). If there's one thing that defined the launch of the PS5 and the Xbox Series X in 2020, it's that nobody could get their hands on the darn things for months at a time, with fresh restocks being swiped by customers (and scalpers) in as little as a few minutes.

If Nintendo can produce enough units of the Switch successor to meet demand and supplement this with a strong launch lineup of games, then we suspect the company will be off to a good start.
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2024/07/component-shortage-no-longer-an-issue-for-switch-successor-says-nintendo

Are we sure that Switch 2 will have Switch 1 games as part of its library? Historically Nintendo doesn't always support that. Am considering getting one of them to catch up on the backlog of games since I gave my original switch away.

I'm pretty sure. They have like 100+ million switch users out there, I don't think they'd want to alienate those people, especially with how Nintendo is putting more care on digital libraries now. I'd be shocked if it wasn't backwards compatible.

Even if new systems will have a different physical format in the future, if they want the Nintendo account to be taken seriously, people's digital library is very likely going to be backwards compatible.

I just bought the Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition game and I'm completely hooked. Tons of mini-speedruns and mini-tournaments, and a lot of fun incentives to keep playing over and over again. Easy to play, even if you only have 5 minutes here or 10 minutes there to run a couple rounds. $30 for digital, although I paid the $60 for the physical deluxe set that came with a bunch of cool collectibles

Gen Z loves this stuff. Its hilarious seeing the AAA industry go down in a ball of government subsidized flames.

I went to a Barcade//Arcade last night packed with people aged 14 to 60. Games were from 1977 to 1999. It was an absolute blast. I got 7th highest Nintendo Punch Out Score. I beat Mr. Sandman and defended the title once for the 7th highest score! They keep the machines on so the high scores stay up!

Half the place was Nintendo games. Punch Out, DK, DK Jr., Mario Brothers. Not SUPER... just regular Mario Bros.

When is the government going to subsidize local businesses running this arcade//barcade rather than giving international mega corps billions in money that disappears to California or France?

Ah, the classic regions of Faron, Eldin and Lana- huh? Jabul? XD What happened to Lanayru?

Love the horse.
Love the bind/echo/reverse bind stuff.
Not a big fan of smoothies and outfits and such, but we'll take it.
Looking forward to it!
Shame it launches so close to Satisfactory 1.0.

https://www.cnbc.com/2024/08/02/nintendo-profit-plunges-55percent-as-sales-of-its-ageing-switch-console-fall.html
Looks like Switch sales are finally slowing down. A key difference between the other long running great consoles is their prices fell a tonne. The Switch price remained the same with the OLED being more expensive.

1983 Nintendo Fact
Nintendo corporate favoured a new arcade game that required 2 CRT screens because their were so many spare screens available due to the decline of Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Junior.
Then 'Punch Out' requiring 2 CRTs was born.

During today's stock market crash Nintendo rose by 13% even in the face of a poor revenue quarter just being reported.

So guys.. fuck diamonds, gold and other precious metals. Buy a few thousands Nintendo Switches, stick them in a strong box and bury it under your swimming pool.

Although the art style isnt my favorite, its really cool to see some of the 3-d Zelda staples in 2D. Especially how we have like....both versions of Zora in this game.

Curious how dungeons will work now that we control Zelda instead of Link.

I wonder if Atari 2600 owners reacted to River Raid, Chopper Command, and Pitfall the way I reacted when I saw Borderlands3 on the Nintendo Switch.

Here is a great comparison between the Steamdeck and the Switch.

I use the gyro controls for precision aiming a lot more than the guys in this video.

EDIT: PC version is 120GB. Switch version is 30GB. 😎

Soooooooooo I just played the weirdest Switch game that I've ever tried out. There's a free demo of Gori: Cuddly Carnage available on the Nintendo eShop if "Conker's Bad Fur Day meets Tony Hawk's Pro Skater meets neon post-apocalyptic hack-and-slash rocket kitten unicorn gore" sounds interesting to you. It's insane, but pretty fun. And NSFW. Very NSFW.

The Indie/Partner Showcase was just okay, imo. Not outstanding. Strong RPG line-up, both new games and remakes. These upcoming Switch games look pretty cool to me:

Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake (release date is 11/14/24);
Tales of Graces f Remastered (release date is 1/17/25);
Suikoden I and II HD Remaster (release date is 3/6/25);
Star Overdrive (release date is sometime in 2025);
The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 1st (release date is sometime in 2025);
Atelier Yumia (release date is sometime in 2025);
Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma (release date is sometime in 2025)
