In any case reforged was pretty objectively terrible. They put it in the furnace for a while and tried to sell it back to people, slightly melted and misshapen.
IIRC many a custom map was nuked, possibly forever. Upon ‘upgrading’ some folks had their maps library FUBARed, so unless they were backed up, or someone else had done so, some were just lost.

However, the filesize limit for maps was increased, leading to some truly incredible maps such as 8-Bit Raid.

Yes it’s hyperbolic to claim it killed the scene, fair point there. But otherwise it was such a shit product it didn’t really boost the scene as much as it could have, which I think is the broader argument most here make.

B - The scene could have got a bigger boost with a better Reforged than what it got

I would guess that everyone who strays into this part of the forum knows by now but just to make sure:
Grubby is hosting a 10.000k Dollar Tournament (sponsored by Blizzard), next Friday/Saturday (March 14/15), with 8 more or less famous players/streamers of other games (among them Dendi, Sodapoppin).
So it's nothing high-skill, all the participants are bronze to gold afaik, people who Grubby met through his recent WoW-journey.
But all the hype around this thing is what drove WC3 to its highest player/viewer-numbers on YT/Twitch in recent times, as people above have talked about.

It's really a great fun to watch, definitelly if you played or watched way back when but I would assume even for newbies.
Obviously there are moments where the big skill gaps are showing in a sad way (but then again they allow for big upsets), and some casts are less entertaining than others. But overall it's a great show and great to see (western) WC3 blossoming once again, at least for this tournament.
Kinda makes you envious that we don't have a figure such as Grubby for the non-KR Broodwar-community, like just a bro who is a good teacher/preacher for the game - but also happens to be a multiple times world champion and "big" variety streamer that can draw in a crowd from other games.
