but anyway, I forgot to get the awoken skills on my samurai ogre before ulti evolving it so I had to use 2 tamadras on it.
Luckily they're giving away 7 tamadras in this event so i have 5 more, perfect for when I evolve Red Sonia.

Opportunity cost of what? The point is that tamadras themselves are farmable, just like monster exp. There's nothing in the game that you can run nonstop, and dungeons with tamadra appearances pop up multiple times a week, so that's not an issue. The comparison is to run metal or jewel dragons for tamadra every time it comes, and eventually you'll get a tamadra from them, versus pouring a ton of red monster exp into leveling gigas for an eventual awakening. On average the tamadra hunting route is much more cost effective for awakening than the 1.7m exp route. The only reason I could see someone wanting to spend 1.7m monster exp instead of a tamadra is if the awakening is extremely high priority/game changing, but gigas doesn't have great awakenings...
