There was a presentation for the new Kinect for the Press where they showed off the features of the new Kinect. How it can targer / track even bigger numbers of people effortlessly , even interpret emotions . Not to mention it now has infrared vision so it works in the dark and alot of other stuff that scream big brother and exploitation.
Seriously i personally think this was/is one of the big catches how MS got the big media companies like the NFL , ESPN and whoever showed up at the presentation got on board. A tool that can monitor the customer and send feedback MS what the customors likes ? Whats not to like for a for profit companies partnerd with MS because they will def. share it with companies partnering with MS.

i think they patent that for the sake of patent, i doubt we'll see that in reality. if it does get implemented...thats just a whole new level of facepalm.

It crosses the line imo. I would never use a system that could invade your privacy to such a degree, and paying a company to do so is beyond silly to me.

While I also honestly doubt it, I wouldn't be surprised at all. MS doesn't seem to have a very good market researching team.

Well there has to be a reason why the new Xbox gets mandatory Kinect that you can't turn off without pulling the plug completely. I think Kinect is a good idea as an optional tool , when it becomes mandatory for no reason it becomes sketchy. Not only will it be a pain in the ass to use with annoying kids/people around that can randomly order your kinect around but ( unless its you need to register individual voices which i doubt ) leaves the door open to all kinds of marketing exploitation.

That's such a bad name... "XBox one?"
At least there wasn't an Xbox 2, that would make it even more confusing.
Regardless, how are people supposed to refer to the original Xbox? XBO (for original) wouldn't work, nor would the obvious XB1.

Yeah, aside from the huge WTF factor of implementing that feature, how in the world do they expect it to be accurate or work properly? People will just leave the room before the movie starts in order to pay less, and dwarfs won't be able to view mature content. Because of the complete ineffectiveness and hatred for a feature like this, I highly doubt they'd do anything like this any time soon. Still interesting that they would even consider it (but that document is too large and convoluted for me to personally tell that they would consider that (in a short amount of time). I don't think the patent has to due with that. The always on Kinect seems to me just be a way of collecting user data. I'm pretty sure the Kinect on the 360 did that already, but just only to people who used the Kinect. Now it'll just be everyone. I can't tell how I feel about that. It's not outrageous, but I would prefer it not to, but as long as it's anonymous I don't mind. It's like using Google Chrome.
Again, I think the One in the name is supposed to signify that this isn't a continuation of the 360 game console, but using Xbox as a home entertainment system with gaming functionality. We've just come to associate Xbox with game console a lot.

Well the camera is as accurate as it can tell if you have an eye open or closed.
When you look at this picture
![[image loading]](http://cdn2.spiegel.de/images/image-499091-galleryV9-ddhr.jpg)
you´ll see that the thing has a built in "consumer detector". The camera is always on. Also it will check all the time what you´re doing when you watch a movie.
CONTENT DISTRIBUTION REGULATION BY VIEWING USER
Abstract
A content presentation system and method allowing content providers to regulate the presentation of content on a per-user-view basis. Content is distributed an associated license option on the number of individual consumers or viewers allowed to consume the content. Consumers are presented with a content selection and a choice of licenses allowing consumption of the content. The users consuming the content on a display device are monitored so that if the number of user-views licensed is exceeded, remedial action may be taken. Source
The technic is already there. The only thing that´s not known to which extent ms will be using the features of this.
No need to running around with a tin foil running in circles, nontheless i would be very cautious what all this COULD mean for the consumer.
edit: also the thing about that consumers "don´t like this features". It doesn´t matter everybody was against DRM still we have it today.

Below figures based on vgcharts xbox 360 data.
If NFL is US only or not doesn't really matter. ~90% of the market is in the US.
FIFA is 60+% in Europe when you consider the sales.
So different sport games sell in different parts of the world.

Then better it´s a big tape because the sound sensor is also pretty good.

There have been massive waves of backlash against DRM attempts. EA dropped it, D3 suffered from it a lot, Sony knows it's stupid. I have absolutely zero doubt in my mind that this system is going to fucking crash and burn. Another year and the PS3 was going to take over the 360 and put it into dead last in this generation's sales (sketchy stats hint that this might have already happened). The Xbox is not exactly the most popular thing in the world, and pissing everybody off is just going to hurt MS even more. When you're competing with Nintendo (loved by hardcore nerds and pretty much every kid ever) and Sony (PS1 and PS2 completely and utterly dominated their respective generations), you don't have room to pull stupid, money-hungry stunts like this.

I can't wait for Xbox One getting hacked or infected with virus. I wonder if it will happen and what will happen with that.
