idk it kinda fell apart once the OP stopped updating it lol.
But I am debating writing my own full campaign and basing it around DnD universe, as well as changing some rules, especially regarding combat. (Well i essentially want to write my entire own game, but using a lot of the ideas/rules from DnD but streamlining some stuff, and tweaking some stuff... but idk we'll see)
Am finally MOSTLY settled into mah new place, have just been keeping a word doc, and updating it with ideas as I go.
I love writing, but have always preferred writing screenplays/game design docs... I just prefer something a bit more interactive/entertaining than books.... I think there are better ways to tell a story these days.

I've found a group and we're still playing. I extremely satisfied with the players I got from this thread (if you're in my game: hat off to you!), so I hope more DM/GM's will take the step and start a game through here. A shame the OP is a bit messy.
I'm thinking of setting up a (maybe more) one-shot gaming session to introduce more people to roleplaying here, and hopefully get those people interested in starting a game of their own.
|
I also got a group of very nice players from this site, though not through this thread because we formed before it was started (we grouped on TL before it was cool!), and we are having a lot of fun.
Bog's plan of having a one-shot introduction session for beginners sounds really good, since apparently the thing that is lacking here are DMs. I can't DM a second campaign because of time constraints, but if you get more people for these test sessions then DMs, i could help you out there.
I'd also be willing to help anyone who wants to set up his own campaign as much as i can. Basically, being new should never really be a problem. And people really overestimate how hard DM-ing is. You don't need to be scared of that. People have this idea that you need to be really experienced to be a DM, but you really don't.
The one thing necessary is putting in a bit more work then the players, you can basically just start playing a character without any knowledge, while as a DM you need to roughly know the rules and plan the session ahead of time.

Since the OP doesn't seem to be updating the thread anymore I would appreciate a pm if you are a DM looking for players to start a campaign.
Player or DM: Player or DM (see additional information) TL-ID Dark Lord Skype Name:Dark,Lord Time available (EDT): Pretty much anytime afternoon or night, however Thursdays generally aren't good. I would prefer after 7:00 EDT. Experience: None Additional Information: Since I have no experience I would like to be a player, but if there are no groups available I could try to DM, however it would be heavily house ruled and simplified. I would probably cut down on combat stuff because I prefer roleplay/problemsolving.
|
If the OP is no longer updating, i would suggest that we do indeed change to a new system.
Basically, if you are willing to DM a campaign, post information about this here. Players then PM the DMs they like. If a group is full, the DM should remove it from the thread again. Problem is that so far this thread is pretty cluttered with information about a lot of people, and noone knows which of those are still available or not.
I would be willing to take over the OP if that is possible, but i have no idea how the rules regarding this are. Do i need to contact jcroisdale, or a moderator, or both? If someone has experience with this kind of thing please explain it to me.

I'm willing to be a DM, but my experience is to one pathfinder game. I think to start I'll just run a module and see how that turns out. So if anybody is interested I'll be looking for players during American time. (so roughly noon-4am CDT. Since this won't be a weekly thing but probably only take 2-3 days to finish. I'm just looking to start as soon as possible and if it turns out well then I'll set up a more campaign style run.
For those interested + Show Spoiler +First, choose class and race from http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/ or http://www.d20pfsrd.com/ Keeping it to the core classes please. Once you have sort of figured out what you want to make I'll go over making a character with you. We'll be rolling ability scores. We will be using some form of voip (probably skype) and roll20
PM for more info.

I can only repeat what bog said. Being a DM is not an art form. Nobody expects you to know every rule or be able to react perfectly. I just had my first game as a DM and it worked out fine. Just try to have fun and have a good laugh at your players reactions and deeds. Plus there are a TON of published adventures and campaigns. Use them and adjust them to your style. If any new DM wants help deciding on a published module or adventure path from Paizo (pathfinder) before buying it feel free to PM me!
And I think it is easier as well if a new DM just posts in the thread with their info and wait for pms. Updating the OP just seems like a lot of work. I got 3 pm in 1h after I had posted so it works.

Jcroisdale sadly does not reply to PMs, either. Who are the Admins that usually take care of this part of the forum, or how can i find that out?
And yes, my plan was to basically have a list of DMs in the OP that people can PM if they want to play, and remove those that have a complete group going. This would make the whole thread easily usable. I guess i could just open a new thread, but a lot of people appear to be already using this one, and that would make everything even more confusing.

So I'm going to try to set up a one-shot adventure for anyone interested!
I'd like to invite any four players who are interested in roleplaying games, but don't want to jump headlong into this great hobby. Just sent me a PM if you want to join. We will play on Monday April 22, 17:00 GMT (+00:00) for about 4 or 5 hours.
Player slots taken: [4/4], We're full sorry!
The system we will be using is Pathfinder by Paizo. Pathfinder is basically an expanded Dungeons and Dragons version 3.5. The entire ruleset is available online for free here (the PRD). You could check around the PRD a little bit, but you can also play along just fine even if you have 0 experience with the rules. We will use Roll20.net as our virtual tabletop and Skype for voice call.
Because this is a one-shot adventure, just to 'test the water' and to save time, I will provide pre-made characters which you can choose from. (just the rules-part, the theme and flavour of your character is only yours to create) However if you really want to create your own hero, we will play with lvl2 characters. Also; I expect a tiny amount of maturity, don't be a dick! Furthermore; I am not a proDM and my English also isn't thát good, I just want to do this because I love the game and want to spread the love!

Great to see people spring into action. Been looking for a group for a long time. Hopefully things speed up a bit so we can get multiple groups going. I would DM myself, but I don't think I feel comfortable doing it with my English. I don't have that much trouble with it, but I just haven't really spoken English that much and still working on finding the courage to use it . DM would need a whole lot more talking than being a player.
|
So, pathfinder game looking for maybe 1 or 2 more for a game tomorrow night at 8pm cdt, that's roughly 27.5 hours from this post. If anybody is interested just shoot me a pm. Just a trial run like Bog's one-shot. Although I think it will more likely take two sessions to finish than a true one-shot.
|
Sorry guys I got lazy, the thread is now up to date.
|
Does that mean that all those players in the first post are still available? In that case, why don't we have another 4-5 groups or so going? I see 3 DMs and hordes of players in there. Do you have a system in place that puts them together?
Also, since Bog's group is full, i will be offering another trial group now. Note that this will not be a campaign, it is just one session to give people who want to play and can't get a group going and idea of how the whole thing actually plays out, and maybe be willing to DM themselves.
We will be playing on Sunday, 21st of April, at 16:00 CEST. That time should make it possible for both Europeans and Americans to join in. We will play for about 4-5 hours.
The game is set in the Space Opera Setting of Schlock Mercenary. (Good comic btw, but knowledge of it is not required). You will be playing a group of Space Mercenaries trying to complete a mission and get payed (but mostly get payed, preferably multiple times for the same work). The game setting is slightly lighthearted and often involves lots of destruction and collateral damage.
We will be playing with the Savage Worlds Ruleset. I will prepare premade characters for you, but since i have not done that yet, if you have specific wishes please include them in your PM. You don't need any previous knowledge to play, but you should have Skype installed and own a working microphone. Other then that, just bring an interest and enough time to play. If you want to participate, PM me with your Skype information.
Player Slots Taken: (1/5)
|
It would be great if the DMs were grouped together in the top for example. Also, I like Bog's way of putting the available slots there. It would make it a lot easier to figure out what's going on. At the moment it seems no one really knows what is happening. We have DMs and we have players, but it seems they don't really meet. Do the players contact the DM? Does a DM contact players? Putting the DMs in the top and Players after that (maybe in spoiler tags) and having the available slots visible, would be great and help a lot with organizing groups. Players could just contact the DM when they see an available slot that fits them.
I know this is mostly work for the OP and I understand if it's not something he wants to do. Just a suggestion.

Played my first ever dnD Session... (well it was Pathfinder i guess) with Randombum, had a blast!
Am def considering DM'ing a game in the future, but I am basically creating my own entire game... It had 12 Classes so far, have worked out combat rules as well as stats for the most part already.
Anyways was a blast, and we are continuing our search on Wednesday! woot.
|
Okay I went ahead and changed the formatting and method of finding groups. Hope this works out a little better, I honestly didn't expect more then like 20-30 people.

It looks a lot better now. Easier to find information. Thanks for keeping it up to date
