That PAX video made for great kinda-viewing (more listening) as I mindlessly grind in path of exile...

Which was the role rollplay was serving until I ran out of it!

Hah, I was doing the exact same thing. I actually quit playing PoE today once I ran out of rollplay, it just wasn't the same.

Seriously, trying to run on foot vs horse riders?

I think that's one of the best moments of roleplaying. Yeah, it's totally dumb from an outside point of view, but from a character point of view - some riders show up and say they want to arrest you for murder? Yeah, you panic and run.

A good idea? Not really. A likely occurrence if it were to actually happen? Totally.

The players have opted not to play the most efficiently, but rather embrace the flaws of mankind. I think it's great! It makes it more fun, more detailed, and brings out interesting character moments.

That said, it is pretty fun to have the crazy efficient killing machine that never makes mistakes. I like playing that way too :D

We promise with a view to hope, but the reason to "accomplish" what we promised would be fear.

This series makes me want to play a video game similar in style. However I'm looking for something recent, not old stuff like BG. Something like Dragon Age maybe, but I feel like it doesn't have enough detail...Maybe I should try out NWN 2 and its addons?

Tudagub and Abigail's prolbem solving skills are like... negative 15.

Getting chased by men on horses... "RUN AWAY!" LMAO was dieing laughing that this was his solution.
JP in jail, Abigail cant find a way in. Bregor tries to give JP an alibi...JP refutes his own alibi, and then lies with a lie that can be completely misproven once someone says "no he left, then came back a couple hours later" to which JP's only defense will be "nuhuh" lmao. They need a stat sheet for problem solving

I'm currently playing NWN2 and the expansions. Get some of the mods for it from nwnvault. This pack is pretty decent and should work with the newest versions okay. Some of the crafting recipes in the ingame books seem to be out of date though, so you'll have to check the crafting mod's readmes. I think I ran into to 2 faulty recipe descriptions so far.

I'm grinding my way through the original campaign, but gods it moves so slow and cheesy most of the time. The last expansion, Storm of Zehir, is more to my liking though, it improves the game quite a bit.

There's also a total conversion mod for original Icewind Dale for NWN2 and from a quick play at it, seemed to function just fine. Played halfway chapter 1 and didn't seem to hit any gamebreaking bugs, it kept pretty damn close to the original.

When it comes to NWN 2, the original campaign is average at best, but the Mask of the Betrayer expansion pack is great.

However, games like BGs, NWNs etc etc don't really capture the feeling and mechanics of D&D well, since they have real-time combat with pause. So far the best D&D emulation in a video game is Temple of Elemental Evil. Get the Circle of Eight mod for bugfixes if you want to try it out.

Found Temple of Elemental Evil on GoG.com, and it's fairly cheap (6 dollars) and apparently at the time it had good reviews too. Gonna buy and play it!

I replayed Mask of the Betrayer late last year and I gotta say it's still as completely epic as always. Highly recommended, though obviously since it's a video game it doesn't really capture the live roleplaying experience, even if you play it coop with a friend.

I've never played 3, or 3.5. I found 4th to be like pen and paper WoW almost. Everything comes down to stats and abilities (using intimidate skill without roleplaying the intimidating), and you have fantastic powers that are nowhere near realism and things tend to get boiled down to a limited array of options. It's great fun, but I do like the less heroic characters and having to do all the detailed roleplaying of 2nd.

I know 4th doesn't expressly hinder roleplaying, but it's ease of being able to gloss over roleplaying leads to campaigns with less character development, and more "when's my next level, because I really want this encounter power". :/

Vincent Longborn!

+ Show Spoiler +
Possibly to the rescue, once again. Again being the only party member with any real problem-solving capabilities. They definitely should have just fought the Priest/Wizard/Warrior combination when it was 4v3, and just had JP use his control spells on the wizard/priest instead of using them to make them fall off their horses and flee lololol Then again.. if JP had a plausible alibi/defense besides "Nope! i was clearly in plain sight at a very public place!" when he wasnt lmao.

People are now talking video games in here, which while off topic, I wanted to address...

Literally there is not a single video game made to date, that is as full of choices/options as DnD is, and that is the draw at least to ME personally. I have never played a video game that could even come CLOSE to simulating the amount of decision making, that these people are being subjected to, during every play session. I like RPG's especially open world RPG's as much as anyone, but its just not possible/plausible to make any game as deep decision-wise as something like DnD, that will evolve and bend and change over time, (given you have a good, fun DM like Neal, who is trying hard to make it both challenging, and enjoyable, letting them do funny shit, while keeping it also serious and plausible)

Just want to say its silly to compare any RPG to it, because they are not even comparable experiences at all imo.

and THIS is why i want to actually try DnD. As someone who actually enjoyed creative writing enough to actually study it full time in college, story teling, and creating something believable/enjoyable/immersive is one of the most awsome experiences/most rewarding experiences I, personally, have had. Writing a 30 page, draft, of a part of a story, and getting other people to believe in it, and enjoy it is just the most awsome experience I had in college.

And in DnD, you get this experience every single time you play, and also you have your friends alongside you creating the story with you as you go.

IDK im starting to get way too deep and nerdy, but just wanted to finish with, the magic of DnD is the story of it, and in the creative tools it provides. at least IMO, and there isnt a video game that grants as much freedom, as this pen and paper game thats almost 40 yrs old.

Now back to work before I get fired LMAO

Also am now listening to the Robot Chicken D&D, because its awsome, listening to a team of writers/creative minds playing the game together is just awsome and hilarious. Also their ranges of experiences makes it more enjoyable, as there is always someone you can relate to imo.

if i sound like an idiot i apologize... that got profound rather quickly.. i blame lack of sleep on my part lolol
