I thought my run was really good but I only came up with 67mil. :/ This might be a no-brainer but a large part of scoring (aside from grazing, star items, etc) is beating spell cards as quickly as possible and getting the bonus from them and getting to the POC as often as possible, especially in stage 4. There might be parts in stage 4 where you might be reluctant to get up there but getting all the items is easier than you might think in easy mode. Your replay isn't uploaded I think so idk if that's the case for you. Check out the replays to see what I mean.

Yeah I think the grazing is what I am missing primarily. I captured most of the spell cards, but I looked at Imbajoe's replay and on stage 3 he's 700+ graze while I was ~175. That's a huge difference, I'll have to try again with a focus on grazing this time.

I got around 99 million a few hours ago, and for stage 3 I only got like 300 graze and the score difference between my run and Imbajoe's wasn't too big.
Here's how your bonus score is calculated.
+ Show Spoiler + Stage x 1000 (stage number, Extra = 7) Power x 100 (power level) Graze x 10 (graze count)
This combined total is then multiplied by the number of point items collected in that stage.
In addition, if you are not playing on Easy and the stage happened to be the last stage, the following is added:
Player x 3,000,000 (lives in stock, not including your current one) Bomb x 1,000,000 (bombs in stock)
Finally, depending on the conditions you played under, the result is multiplied by these modifiers, rounded down to the nearest 10:
4 Initial Lives: x 0.5 5 Initial Lives: x 0.2 Easy Difficulty: x 0.5 Normal Difficulty: x 1.0 Hard Difficulty: x 1.2 Lunatic Difficulty: x 1.5 Extra Difficulty: x 2.0
edit: Yeah, nvm what I said about grazing. Grazing + star items = much higher score.

Awesome Idea! Looking forward to pick up the games again. Even though you have to unlock the Extra stages, hope you rethink about adding them. ESoD and IM Extras are 2 good.

Then, once the next game opens up, stop accepting scores for the previous one. I thought about this idea at first, but I feel that for people that aren't that good at the game, it would probably be a bit better to start everyone out on easy mode and let those players work on the easiest difficulty. Then, by the time lunatic mode unlocks, they would be a bit better at the game.
On October 27 2012 05:40 Imbajoe wrote: Another thing to consider is that if we set games/modes to be locked at some determined date, then that might encourage individuals to hold onto a new top score until the the last day before submitting so that other people don't have the ability see and try to specifically beat that, which would somewhat ruin the feel and fun of this type of competition. This could be worked around by making a rule that you have to submit a run within a couple of days of the score being obtained, going by the date on the replay. Just something to consider. I like this suggestion. I had the same thoughts about locking games eventually in that some players would hold onto their scores and submit right before it locks. Your solution works perfectly though. I'm gonna edit the op to include this. So, I'll have to change it so that games lock (according to the poll) when easy mode for 2 games ahead is unlocked. I'll also have to edit the rules so that you have to submit a replay within 48 hours of it being obtained.
Also, just for my clarification: If someone submits a replay for normal mode without using any continues, and someone else downloads that replay, does Extra mode unlock? Am I correct in that it is normal mode without any continues, or is it a different difficulty or you can use 1 continue or what? I might end up unlocking extra mode at the same time as lunatic mode in this case.
Edit: I received an email giving me a replay that is the current Touhou 6 easy mode high score (112699010) from "SPM". I don't know who this is on TL and a forum search didn't clear that up. Maybe I did it wrong idk, but if he doesn't have a TL account, should he be allowed to join? Up to you guys.

I'm alive. I registered before sending the email and thought I would show up, but I guess not.
I think the Extra unlock via replay watching only applies to MoF...but I might be wrong. Perhaps it only works towards unlocking stage practice.

Yeah that would be nice, especially if they are gonna come and demolish everyones' scores. Completely forgot about normal opening up, gonna try some today

I'm getting absolutely killed on normal mode lol. I finally managed to make it to stage 3 but I died to cirno 3 times and lost it immediately. I felt proud though. That same game I managed to beat SPM's first stage score (I got around 9 million compared to SPM's 7.8). I tried saving it but the game crashed. Turns out (at least for me) you can't overwrite replays without a crash. I have to delete the replay from the folder and then save mine in the slot.

Just a heads up for people who haven't checked the OP recently: I'll offer the same type of prize as Epishade for second place so there's still hope to claim a crappy custom-made drawing for yourself. I'll also sit out on some of the difficulties or something since it's not really nice for a lurker to butt in like that.
Grazing is sort of big since its influence on the star item value is crazy good in comparison to the other games, and the source of scoring from other factors is pretty low for this game anyway.

SPM, have you been able to 1cc lunatic on any of them? Just curious as to what skill level you're at with such nice scores.
|
I have a 1CC on all the Windows games (excluding the fighters), but not with every shot type and not necessarily with flying colors. I usually hang out on Normal, and even then it's been limited to a select few games. I'll try something special when I find myself in familiar territory.
Edit: Hello, Chronopolis!

I can only 1CC the Fighting Games (well just IaMP) ;_;

Hehe, for only the second time in my life I died during the after-flash of the final boss (The other time was Okuu). Blasphemy. You have no idea how silly it is to see Remelia explode from pressing the continue button.

Been pretty busy this past week and I haven't been able to get a really good score yet. I'm too score oriented and I die repeatedly to a bunch of stupid mistakes. Maybe I should try ignoring score entirely and focusing on survival. Maybe that's what I should have made this competition about. Just list all the people that made it to the end lol. It might dumb down the game a bit, but I think more people would have been willing to join if all they had to worry about was survival.
Maybe when this competition ends, I might start another one ignoring score.

I like this idea too. When the new competition starts, I'll probably make it like this. That might not be for a while though. It will most likely be for when this competition ends - I'll start another one, or when just about everyone stops submitting scores for this one (which I think will probably happen pretty soon idk) - I'll make another competition maybe a month or two afterwards. Can't start another Touhou comp. right after the one before it dies.

Is this still going, haven't seen any movement in google docs. If so I may participate on select difficulties as I just recently picked up Touhou again .
|
It is technically still going, but I think it's pretty much dying out/going to be dead by next week. I just don't think we have that large a Touhou following on TeamLiquid to sustain a tournament like this. If you want, I'll still maintain the leaderboards and everything, but I probably won't be submitting my own scores.
|
Yeah, I expected the turnout to dwindle after the first wave of submissions, but it dipped much faster than I expected. I still don't know how much I'm at fault for showing up. I decided to sit back and see if anything would be submitted in the newer categories if I didn't show my face, but...too late now I guess. A few more days and I'll put forth that special effort, and then I don't know what future lies for this thread.
