Can anyone confirm the validity of the claim that the current CEO of Hitbox.tv was not really responsible for the Own3d debacle, but that he was brought on late in its lifespan to try to fix a leaking ship as best he could?

Yeah his account got unbanned
Apparently it was because of his chat spamming the unwanted stuff lol

However, several others have been banned. Including, and I think most recently, qwerty1605. He had a mod in his channel being an asshole then told said mod to suck his dick. It's one of those things that's, like... I really hate that the streamer bashed the transgendered. I really hate that he reacted rudely. It makes it super hard to be sympathetic, and really fuck him, the idiot.
But the mod in question went into his channel and demanded he change the title. She put his room in sub mode. She created an atmosphere of confrontation and rudeness and I can't bring myself to care that she got yelled at. This is what happens when you escalate a volatile situation. People get hurt. And when it's over, there's gonna be a lot of postmortem examination of how the speedrunning community messed up and how to react in the future. That's good! And it's a lot easier to do in that community than in others, and I hope that conversation is productive. I also suspect there will be little-to-no engagement or discussion of Twitch's side of things, and how utterly, terribly, horribly they've handled every aspect of this. At any company with accountability, this is the kind of thing that leads to people getting suspended.

Is that even the right subreddit? I wouldn't be surprised if that got deleted even without any kind of Twitch involvement. But maybe I just despise how he martyrs himself in the end.
And it's gone. But I guess he won right, he wins by the post being removed, he wins by the post not being removed.

It's the wrong subreddit for it. r/Games is very strict about what kind of content they allow. That said, the post got removed for "vote abuse" because the speedrunning community started upvoting it immediately.

We ran it by a moderator of the subreddit and it was removed anyway. Given the reddit admin who deleted the one from the twitchtv reddit, I'm not shocked.

What are the odds of people spreading Twitch admins forced the closure of yet another Reddit thread, even though it's clear why it was removed? This is why I hate that kind of post.

The issue is that, according to clearly stated rules, sharing the post to outsiders for upvotes is not allowed. Members of their own community should look at the news and decide it's worthy. It's not specifically asking for votes, but the post was also not upvoted by the subreddit community, which can easily be seen as gaming the system. Some subreddits are strict, without needing anyone to force their hand.

I haven't read the r/gaming subreddit rules and I don't know anything about both of them. But from what I saw from the r/games rules and the reasoning the admin gave, it's very possible Twitch had nothing to do with it. Perhaps the message was fine, if another adming allowed it, but it seems sharing the links like that definatelly wasn't.
It seems the admins are even allowing him to resubmit the thread, as long as he doesn't manipulate the votes again. Twitch definatelly has it's iron grip right over Reddit.

Am I the only one who finds it funny that an admin would say he doesn't believe in censorship?

Noone will say they like censorship, yet noone in their right mind would remove all kinds of censorship and let anyone say whathever they want.
Obviously Twitch went over the line, but some people have an absurd notion of free speech.

It's not a free speech issue, and the people making it into one are missing the point.
