No it was on some 96-97K then they restarted the stream and it was at like 60-70K for SSF4 finals

Glad I went to sleep before the SF4 finals, they were pretty dull as it was just Inflitration rolling over everyone. Also he made raging demon look so good it was ridiculous.
KoF finals were amazing though, glad I watched them.

I took a nap expecting to wake up during AE. Woke up and it was almost finished. Was worth missing to watch the KoF final though, holy shit, greatest fighting game final ever.

Wasn't there a Salty Suite that was taking place at this EVO? I thought I read somewhere that there was... Please tell me there was

And you would be foolish to ignore the time it was aired, I think AE finals started at like 4:30 am over here, so gd luck getting a decent viewership from this side of the atlantic. KoF was fucking amazing, MVC was also incredible, sadly the AE wasn't that good, everyone just got blown up, was very sad for dieminion to make it to top 8 and bump into not only an Adon which is a real bad matchup imo, but the best adon on the planet that was on his A-game.

as someone who hasn't been involved or played fighting games since mortal kombat 3/ street fighter alpha 3, I found this event to be a lot of fun. I think it was mostly the crowd/casters.
Games I really enjoyed watching:
KoF UMvC3 MK9
Games that were ok: SF4AE (I enjoyed it more in the past but infiltration just owned everyone lol)
Games I really didn't like: virtua fighter

I missed the MK9 finals, but I pretty much agree. The CafeID guys in KOF were amazing, and the entire T8 in MvC was impressive. For the most part, the SF matches were really one sided and weren't super exciting. VF fell into the same category. I'm dissapointed that I had to work through the Soul Calibur finals, especially since the winner uses the same character as me, but I watched him play earlier in the tournament and a lot of his winning seemed to be because people are so unfamiliar with what Tira can do that they just fell apart.

Just wanna say how cool I think it is that the EVO streams were linked here on TL. I've never watched a fighting game tournament before and probably wouldn't have if I hadn't seen the stream links here. Really enjoyed it though, especially SF4AE and MK9. Please do that every time!!

I've seen quite a few ppl saying things like this, but it's just not true. You have to understand that fighting games are a lot like poker, in the sense that skill matters, but luck is still a huge factor over a small number of games due to all the 50/50s. Daigo was playing extremely well and was absolutely on the same level as infiltration. he really did not make many skill-related mistakes at all, just guessed wrong on a few setups that are pure guesses. Daigo put infil in quite a few dangerous setups where infil simply guessed right on the 50/50s.
The top8 was really high level this year, honestly 7 of those 8 players were 100% capable of winning it all. The only player that didn't belong in the top 8 IMO was humanbomb, both his execution and his strategy were terrible.

Humanbomb just had a bad day, happens to everybody (especially when you are not used to that evo stage)
Sure Daigo can still go toe to toe with Infiltration on every given day, but Infiltrations Top8 performance was just unreal. I've never seen anyone shut down Daigo's fireball game that hard in a Shoto matchup like yesterday, his execution/reactions were flawless and if you guess right almost every single time, it's not really guessing any more. Infiltration was in Daigos head that match.
I would have loved to see Daigo take it all but Infiltration was just on another level, he could have taken it with Gouken that day
|
He was not guessing right every time, the match was very close except for about 4-5 guesses. Infil guessed right on two demon setups (if Daigo didn't press a button it would've been 40%+ punish). And he guessed right on 2 or 3 of daigos counterhit fadcs that wouldve resulted in lost rounds
I'm not saying he wasn't playing well. I'm saying that if they played another bo5 immediately after their match, I would still give each player equal odds of winning
The problem with humanbomb was that his gameplay was just unrefined, it's not just him dropping combos(which he frequently did). He was not doing correct jumpin arcs on wakeup (resulting in him getting hit by reversals). He was not option selecting his jumps (ie, vs pr rog, he could've punished every wakeup rush punch with a OS shouoken or ex tatsu). He was not fadcing his shouokens (not even the ex version which is very easy) which could've won several rounds. He was not even linking shouoken into ultra in the corner when ultra would've resulted in a kill. To me, it just looked like a random xboxlive Sakura who randomed his way to top8 with lucky guesses
To draw a comparison, it would be like watching a ryu make top 8 without ever fadcing his uppercuts, even when it would lead to a kill. Seeing stuff like that just doesn't give you a good impression of the player's skill

Humanbomb is the best player in Australia and it did not show in the Top 8 at all. It really did look like he was scared and not playing up to that standard. He was playing completely random, throwing out reckless fireballs and EX tatsus, and dropping even the easy links (the hardest link he landed was a 3-frame! s.lp c.mk). I was telling my friends before the matches that Adon and Balrog both give me problems and I'm hoping to see some cool secret tech, but instead he just got dominated. He would have been better off choosing Yang by far. Completely choked.
I also would have liked to see the entire Top 8 be BO5, or at the very least, Winners' and Losers' Finals. Because of this (and the one-sidedness of most of the games), SF4 was one of the least hype games of the night.

Are VODs on their twitch page? Missed AE because of stupid jury duty next day. Glad I caught marvel, can't make those story lines as epic in sc2

Ya Human Bomb was pretty lackluster. I knew of his name before EVO and assumed he was good, but I was quite wrong. The whole time I was watching him I was just thinking to myself - How the hell did this guy make top 8...
So there was no Salty Suite/Redemption Suite this year?
