I have never played SF but this really looks interesting.
Ryu/Ehonda are the standard fighters? Wondering which fighters are nonstandard/never played but used here!

At EVO you'll probably see every character used. Off the top of my head I'd say the rarest are... Hakan, Thunder Hawk, and Dan.
Late edit: Who are also probably the worst, which is why you'll so seldom see them.

Ryu is the trademark street fighter character pretty much, very standard and a lot of players use him. The latest patch made pretty much all characters viable to some extent, but some chracters are still underplayed for example Yang, Dan (created as kind of a joke chracter), evil ryu, hakan and as seen recently on stream Dee Jay is quite a rare character.

Ryu is the iconic char of the series. In SF1 you could only pick him or Ken, who was just a palette swap. They're different characters now, but they basically represent the basic fundamentals of the game, so they are popular In this game. You'll see a pretty good mix of chars, but I expect to see a lot of Ryus and Kens in general, and a decent number of Balrogs. Characters that are popular among the top players would include Viper, Seth, Fei Long, Cammy, Sakura, and Rufus. Like Bacon said, Dan and Hakan are rarely used because they're considered weak. Gen is also a very uncommon character.
