First upset of the day. Tokido loses to Eric Hai and is sent to losers. Real solid Ryu play.

Yeah I really thought he'd crumble under the pressure, seems like the cheerings gave him confidence! (but a lot of mistakes by Tokido, that was weird)

I love it when the room gets so loud that the audio cuts out. That's when you know it's hype.

Is there a good website to see the world-rankings of the players for these events? Or at least SSF4 and UMVC.

Or are the "winners of last 3 tournaments" in the OP pretty accurate to who is good now?

Don't think there really is a way to rank the players. Not every US player goes to all the majors and there hasn't been a huge international presence

But Pachi's OP has a good list of the killers

There's no actual "world ranking" system that I know of for these games, though the seeding for EVO is based on select tournament placings held throughout the year that are considered part of the 'Road to EVO.' Ricky Ortiz is #1 seed based on his consistent Top 4 performances in those RoE tournaments, but most (me Included) would definitely say he is not the #1 player or favorite to win EVO for instance.

Check out the Fighting Games 2012 Thread (http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=300362) if you want detail on the placings. pachi (the TC for this thread and that thread) did an amazing job with listing each event, and the Top 8 for past events if you want an idea of who's the most consistent players.

There aren't world rankings per se, although there are several seeded players from the Road to Evo events that have happened earlier in the year. There are some players to look out for in the first post of this thread, and at the bottom of this article:

http://shoryuken.com/2012/07/05/evo-2012-the-largest-fighting-game-tournament-of-the-year-starts-in-less-than-24-hours/

http://shoryuken.com/2012/07/06/evo-2012-is-now-streaming-live/ has updates on who has qualified thus far.

Most Japanese players don't go to these events, therefore they don't have much/any points. The "Notable Competitors" list in the OP is good.
In that regard I noticed something. Why is Nuki listed even though he won't be at EVO this year?

There is no formal ranking of players. Best estimate is who has been doing well in recent majors (NEC, CEO) and recurrent (but important) tournaments (Big Two, Wednesday Night Fights, Thursday Throwback, Curleh Mustache).

I thought Nuki was coming? Didn't think he'd be competing in anything but the ST tournament though.

Yeah OP should update that. A family member passed away (his mother?). Thats why Nuki can't attend.
