December 13, 2005 -
The Global Gaming League today launches “Immortal: Life After Death,” a new reality series that traces the comeback and challenges faced by one of video gaming’s biggest stars, Kurt “Immortal” Shimada.

The charismatic Immortal was considered the world’s best ‘Quake 2’ player. But at the dawn of professional video gaming, the world’s top pros routinely played for trinkets and a few thousand dollars. So, in 1999, Immortal walked away from the professional ranks at the top of his game. Despite his domination of the sport, he was burned out, disillusioned and frustrated by his inability to make a living as an elite player.

Now, Immortal wants back in, and GGL will follow his comeback quest at this week’s CPL Winter in Dallas.

sounds cool

the first episode is sortof pointless though if they're trying to make it a real documentary

they just follow around some girl dressed in very few clothes zzzzz

if people want pr0n they can go elsewhere eh? story with actual content would be more interesting

God, he looks old

I used to think he looked mature for a 15 year old, but now it's really apparent that he's not a kid anymore

this is fucking bullshit, Thresh is twice the quaker immortal ever was. Immortal was never referred to as the best quake2 player, in fact he was always referred to as SECOND best! And i believe he lost all 3 championships in q1/q2 to thresh every time he played him. Im sure he could be the best now though assuming thresh doesnt come back, immortal could school that little fatal1ty bitch.

Dennis "Thresh" Fong 4 life. Noone has executed FPS philosophy better except maybe Jon Wendell who was an admirer and student of Thresh's game.
I got to play 1v1 vs Thresh at Quake 1 and I know people that have played him 'arena' stlye on LAN. He didn't have the best aim, but his philosophically analytic approach to FPS was quintessential perfection.

what ChoboCop means to say is that unlike him Thresh was aware of the fact that q1 had a fixed spawn system.

compare Immortal to Thresh's achievements (immortal won 1 tournament)
http://www.angelfire.com/me4/joeyadonis/index.html for q1/q2/etc tournaments

anyway immortal lost yesterday so no cookie for him @ q4

Quake1 had a random spawning system ala Clanring.

How exactly do you analyze an FPS game where the only real goal is to get there, do that & survive? Kinda curious cause Ive played a bit FPS with my friends, but we never really do anything else than run ahead with guns blazing :p

i usually share rekruls impression on this very topic (every CS gamer on my school i've met i would have liked to punch in the face before i even knew he played games), but could you please show the kindness to describe to me what the heck one can call an 'philosophically analytic approach to fps'?

btw, garpy vs lynx on boot camp is best half life match evar!

A philosophically analytic approach to fps is one of finding deeper understanding for the larger picture of what is trying to be accomplished and trying to create a system for play. Jon Wendell doesn't just aim and move, he thinks hard about the different maps and imbalanced beforehand and has longterm strategic vision. Most FPS players cannot think past the moment, the best, the ones who are able to stay on top, in multiple games, have a philosophical schema for how the duel is to be played.
