Wait for the steam sale!

Ok, I have a few things to ask/say.
When is the steam sale? I have been fighting the urge to buy this game as I am low on money, but it just looks too good. Also I am worried it will be a FotM thing and I will end up missing out on the fun.
Secondly, are there any minimum specs for this game? Would love to play with my cousin but his PC isn't top notch. It can just about run SC2 with everything on low. It used to be able to play BC2 at low FPS but the comp has sort of, deteriorated.
Thirdly, if I do get it and can't play with my cousin, are there any people from the UK or EU that I could play with?
Thanks

As far as I know, there is no set date for a steam sale (just speculation/predictions). As a matter of fact, a sale ended only a few weeks(?) ago, where Combined Operations (Arma II + Operation Arrowhead) was on sale for $15 instead of $30. I don't know how soon another one will arrive.
I definitely don't think it will be a FotM thing. Historically, mods like this have gotten a lot of support from the PC community. Furthermore, the developers are planning to integrate Day Z into the next Arma II patch, and eventually Arma III as well. Developer support promotes longevity.
I assume that the specs should be the same as Arma II.

^Oh, the only time I've spawned in the ocean is when I was wearing a skin

I never spawned in the ocean with my zombie skin.
:D

FADE has been around since Operation Flashpoint and it hasn't been cracked since.
Edit Though I haven't checked it out in a long time. Maybe it's gone.

Just checked some of the torrents. They specifically say that FADE (DEGRADE) has been removed. I have no first-hand experience though.

Giving this a try. Not much luck getting into a game yet.

Thought I'd just share my latest experiences, since each one is so interesting and unique:
Joined a hardcore server that 3 people in a skype chat I sort of knew were on. It's night time, I've never played at night before and by god it's dark. It had been some time since I last played, so instead of spawning on a mountain where I logged, I was placed on a beach somewhere I'd never seen. Whilst my buddies tell me about the graphics settings to change to help see anything at night a bit better, a zombie jumps me. As I shoot I realise "Oh crap I have no sound!" and in a moment of panic trying to fix that I die. Lost some nice stuff, but nothing super special outside essentials.
So no matter, I figure I'll respawn, find my mates who had also died in the last few minutes, and begin trekking. In my previous play I hadn't trekked much north of the coast, but my mates figure out a path north to Stary past a couple of towns and Zub castle. On the way we pick up a little gear, but nothing great. Fortunately one of us had a silenced scoped weapon (forgot the name), but it made picking off zombies a charm and we were able to get all the way to Stary without having more than one or two zombies aggro us. Just outside Stary, someone spots a pixel in the distance. Without scope, I iron sights across a field and see a blip on the horizon sprinting fast. Given the 4 on 1, on of my mates opens fire figuring there's a chance at loot if we can hit. Our 'prey' finds a rock with cover a looses off a couple of shots, but in doing so must have realised he was horribly outnumbered and must have logged by the time we reached his last known position.
So after that bit of excitement on the way to Stary, we enter from the north-east to raid some of the military tents. We keep one as lookout in the trees, and three of us move through. A couple of zombies aggro, and before we know it a hell of a lot aggro and we fight for our lives. I hole up inside a tent as our silenced-weapon guy dies, and lag hits as I fire at zombies with more shots than I'm sure I need. Outside another mate falls in front of the tent, and given the resulting confusion and lag he blames me for shooting him. When I realise the exact position he was actually in, I realise there's no chance that happened. Our lookout tries to rush in, shouting that there's a squad of people around in tents nearby, but he gets clipped too. With less than 3k blood I go prone amongst the bodies and wait. Zombies remain aggro'd somewhere nearby, but no-one comes to collect the bodies after a couple of minutes. In a quick panic I grab a few of the best items I could from my three mate's bodies and beeline to the treeline.
I waited there in prone for ages, ate some meat and decided to log and wait for mates to catch up again. Unfortunately whilst I was away the server reset, and all the bodies and gear was lost that I didn't grab. In the little bit we play after that I spontaneously started losing health dramatically and a door spontaneously killed a teammate. So now, I'm just prone near the barracks for the airfield with 3k blood again (thanks random bleeding!) and I'm sure when I log on tonight to play again I'll die with all that nice gear.
All in all, I love this game. I haven't panicked or worked so closely as a team in any game before like this. I think the persistence of the character really drives it home for me more than any of the other mechanics. It places real meaning on the value of your own character's life. Something video games struggle to accomplish typically. Exciting to analyse from a design point of view for sure.

(Loading screen takes forever to complete and sometimes you just get stuck on the "wait for host" screen.) Two servers that usually work for me are Bashurverse 2 and Canada 2. You just have to try a lot of different servers until you find a few that work.

This game is so fun and also so frustrating.
I love throwing a flare in a building and waiting above a staircase; invariably like 10 people run up the stairs and I just kill them.

gotta love that glitch/whatever that kills everybody in the server
