I'll do an IAMA when I'm back... and standalone has actually been released! Until then I think I'll just really knuckle down and work towards that goal so we're all happy. + Show Spoiler [source] +

Seriously would love to hear the explination for this while DayZ is already 5 months behind schedule, with no coming release date... I guess the massive amount of success and money has really changed this guy

The fact that he's kept in touch with his team from Everest via satellite speaks to his commitment to the project. I can't imagine success and money suddenly making someone want to climb Everest, it just creates the opportunity for a serious climber to pursue what has probably been a lifelong dream.

We don't care about him, but he better damned well finish those books. I'm not really looking forward to the game anymore, I won't buy it right away whenever it launches, I'm guessing sometime in 2014.

I haven't followed the development of DayZ or played since September, but I found those patch notes after I whimsically decided to check /r/dayz. The game sounds totally different now and I think I may have to reinstall DayZ and give it another go.
