Disabling non-critical gameplay features? How about disabling the always online drm then lol?
Also amazon just pulled the game from the shelves until further notice... Worst launch of a game in a long while.

I really don't care much about the drm aspect, but I am bothered because games like Skyrim and Civ4 are so much better modded. The new SimCity however is super easy to mod, at least for easy stuff like buildings and the like. It uses the same sort of struccture as Spore did, and like The Sims/Spore you just dump the .package file in the main folder. Although they don't officially have mod support they don't mind people modding and they were going to talk about it soon. How would that work with the mulitplayer aspect? Seems weird if you could mod to the same degree as previous SC's.

Can you actually skip the first getting started tutorial? It's kinda annoying that it always pops up on every server you go to.
I saw the mini-tutorials in the options, but I guess this is something else

i dont think you can, the tutorial also registers you at the server (which is why mine didnt start this morning).
this game has a really annoying bug whre a car gets randomly stuck at a crossing and then block the road completely until you reload the city. I hope they will fix that at some point.
|
OMG
played the tutorial half way i guess and then as i needed to visit the other city game got disconnected...
and now im trying to select a server for like 30 minutes ....
|
Everytime I can eventually play I get disconnected like an hour in and lose a lot of my work.. really sad.

First time I heard about this SimCity I was quite interested but after knowing EA was behind it, making it origin only available I knew I would never buy it.
EA just keeps disappointing me project after project they manage. SWTOR was shit, the origin and web interface for BF3 was utter shit(the game was really nice but finding a server, creating a party was the worst I've seen in a FPS), Crysis 3 has a 3 hours lifetime campaign, Far Cry 3 has some nasty save bugs but some may be due to Ubisoft Ubiplay. EA forums can issue ban to any Origin users that complain on anything Origin/games related, blocking access to all online games. Now I see SimCity European clients can't access the game since launch because the servers are not even close to handle an userbase on a weekday at a random time. I only see one way the game would ever be playable a friday evening, or saturday afternoon is when the majority of the game owners give up trying to connect to play.
I did regret all my origin/EA purchase and after the not so great reviews SimCity is getting, I don't think SimCity is worth the indirect support you give to origin/EA by buying the game. Some friends are still trying to log in the game but no servers is working for them and they are redirected to a waiting queue of ~20-30 minutes each times.

You're not actually modifying mechanics, just how models look - and no one else can see the changes you've installed.

Another gripe I have with the game (apart from not being able to play) is that there isn't a fullscreen window mode. For the time being I have to play with the window mode. Which resulted in scrolling the map using the border to get really annoying since it doesn't snap the mouse and you only have a few pixels margin... seriously... that can be done a lot better.
I'm sure it's a pretty fun game once you're able to play though, but it's too easy being negative when you're not distracted ^^

just saw it and yeah. At first it was funny, but then it got really painful to watch. I'm not quite sure if this ins't faked, as he has more vids, but some reactions/behaviors are looking a little to serious, to be acted by him, if one considers the circumstances.

Being the fat sad nerd loser is his role.

Just, disgusting. The gaming industry has turned into one hell of a shady place over the years.

Not really the idea of getting banned for forcing a refund thought he bank would be to have already paid for something but then stopped the check at the bank from clearing, that' nothing really new. Do any online transaction and cancel it at the bank and something like this will happen, still if you buy something online should use a CC just for the option of doing this esp with larger purchases gives you a position of leverage. In disputes but don't be surprised if the store bans you from shopping there again.
As far the right to process a refund at sellers discretion. Just take any item to a store and give a bad excuse for a refund they will refuse to give it to you often at least a full cash refund. Little bit surprised no offer in refund in form of origin store credit.
Would have to review origin store policy also get more context on that specific case to say something was really wrong with the reps responses. It being truncated to the end is always poor context.

Still the responses in general are poor, it's really awful customer service. Plus apparently they "promised" refunds through Origin, so that just speaks badly of their business practices.

The thing is they had just said they would allow people whom were upset with the game to get a refund. Not to mention, you're wording it like the game not even working is somehow a "bad excuse" for wanting a refund.
