From what people say he is the next Karl Malone, which would be awesome, if true, but from what I remember from his college days I didn't like him nearly that much (although he was the best player in the draft and deserved to be the #1 pick). His game is not like Malone's, unless he learns that PnR 18 footer, which would make him the best power forward in the league for a long time. He's more like pre-injury Amare but yes, his game is a bit different than his Oklahoma days. More jumping. Interesting. I am going to make an effort to watch him more this year, but I mean, the ability to dunk and put up decent stats on a shitty team does not an all-star make. That is what worried me most, guys like Blake and Kevin Love were good-stats-shitty-teams guys and that always, always is a red flag for me. I heard some people calling him a "franchise player" and I think that is premature, agree? Steve Nash is a threat to shoot 50% from anywhere on the court if you give him a big cushion which combined with his ability to probe the interior of the defense opens up passing opportunities. Other players like Westbrook and Rose have a credible threat to go to the basket (along with evolving outside games) which makes them all the more difficult to defend. Well.. do you see Rajon Rondo as a credible shooting threat? He barely hits uncontested mid-range jumpers ![]() Rubio is the definition of a pass-first PG, which I think will fit nicely into the Timberwolves' lineup, they've got at least three valid scoring threats now in Love, Beasley & Williams. Rondo penetrates very well and generates a fair amount of his offense (or offensive stats) from his defense. His team is also very talented. The same can not be said of Rubio. We'll see how Rondo does once his team isn't 3 future HoFs for an entire season (not counting his rookie ofc). Compared to Nash who is pretty much Phoenix because of his abilities to shoot, and distribute to average role players. In any case, what I think clutz was trying to say that Rubio falls under neither a credible shooting threat or a blow past you kind of PG. He needs at least one of those 2 to be considered potential and he will need to develop a credible shot, only that much is certain. Yea, you need to scare the defender in some way. The NBA is just like pick up basketball, but much better. Lets say you are guarding your little brother and he can't shoot for shit, you lay off him because the drive is more dangerous. But what if the drive is hardly dangerous? You camp the passing lanes and just swat his shot as he goes for the layup. That is Ricky Rubio's future unless he develops a shot, or is more athletic than he seems.

Blake's been a good player all year. I remember him doing a solid job guarding Dirk at the beginning of the year, he has great footwork. I don't see why he's not a franchise player. You don't have to be an MVP candidate to be a franchise player.

What I think you REALLY mean is guys who are on bad teams but get the green light to gun for shots with no care for efficiency, which was mainly a symptom of the mid 2000s with inefficient scorers like AI, Marbury, McGrady and yes, Kobe who were all just chucking up shots.

It's hard to put up 20/10's on good efficiency when you are the focus of the opposing defense with terrible help. When talking about star talent they tend to put up great numbers no matter where they play. It's much harder to do what Kevin Love does on Minny than what Pau Gasol can do in LA. Shareef Abdur Rahim says thanks. As for Blake Griffin, he is absolutely a superstar. Basically, imagine a player that scores at a 70% clip from 10 feet in. His defense sucks though. DEANDRE SLAMS THAT BITCH! EDIT: To clarify on Blake, I wrote that a bit fast. What I mean to say is that he is an elite threat to score in the paint, 70% is too high, sorry. But as long as he's the roller, his finishing ability has to be respected. His shot looks nice, though there's clearly tons of work to be done there. This preseason game is wildly entertaining. Chris Paul is so excellent.
