The Knicks need to flip either Amare or Carmelo, but no sane ownership team would ever trade for them as they take up so much cap space. With the new CBA, any team is going to face stricter penalties going over the cap. Trading isn't an option as no team is going to give up 2 first-rounders, plus 3-4 role players for a star that wants to do his own thing. Lottery teams aren't going to trade, the picks are valuable. Top playoff teams aren't going to trade because they already have a system in place. Middling playoff teams aren't going to trade because the team is going to think that they're 1-2 pieces off, and trading picks/players compromises their goal. The Knicks already used their amnesty clause on Billups to sign Chandler. so there's no relief there. Dolan is obviously the problem, but "You can't fire ownership." Walsh left, D'Antoni left, and I don't think they're going to attract many high profile candidates in the off-season. This would piss off the "Knicks fans" even more than the resignation.

As NY has learned, you can't just stick 2 superstars together and have a winning team. It works for Miami because LBJ/Wade are beyond superstar level and simply run most teams off the court. Everyone else actually needs chemistry/proper roles/a proper system, and you can't win with 2 max players playing absolutely no D. In fact I don't even see a way to fix the Knicks. Amare is aging in dog years and they need to get rid of his contract, but no one will trade for him and I'm not sure what the rules are for the amnesty clause. As presently constituted there's no way in hell they will stand a chance vs. Miami/Chicago for the next 5 years.

And amazingly no one seems to get it. Right now Stephen A Smith is talking a lot of nonsense about Melo needing to be the man. /facepalm

tell A'mare & Carmelo to stay home have Lin and the rest of of the team run his system the way it's supposed to be run, then resign after the Portland game if Knicks win, he leaves showing he's not the sole reason for the Knicks problems if Knicks lose, /shrug not like they've been winning at least try going out with guns ablazing instead of on a whimper

Hey Knicks fans, how would you like a guy who's averaging 26ppg/6apg/5rpg? I bet he'd be pretty cheap since he just punched a fan, and I think he'd be a perfect fit in New York.

ISOS ALL DAY Even with D'Antoni gone this team ain't going anywhere. Guess we'll never see Lin + Chandler + bench working the floor again. It already seems like a distant memory...

Every year, pretend to be looking to deal my elite players. Every other team in the league gut themselves trying to make a play at them. Decide not to trade them (requires collaboration with the players).
