Thats why you will have tanks in your party. in L2, tanks had group skills that mitigated p.dmg and m.dmg, increasing p.def and m.def by crazy amount for around 10 sec (u can enchant..) , that pretty much nulls out mage defense and you will be able to get close, use stun or skill or whatnot...

I like how they went back to their Lineage 1 top-down POV, as there are very few modern MMOs adopting that in their game design. Gonna miss the cute elven chicks though

Heh, back in L1 Mages were pretty frigging good, but you really had to know how to play them in order to get the best out of them.
Yeah, WW seiges were a lot of fun. :D

I don't know guy I also played L1/L2 for like 10 years. But I dislike that is way to similar to Diablo 3.
By that I mean that they trying to copy.

Yeah, i also like old graphics more, hard to say how its game play, but if they try to just copy diablo then they will waste this huge potential that game siwth Lineage in title have.

Isn't Lineage the grindiest MMO out there?
|
So is this an instanced game similar to GW? Or is this a fully persistent world MMO with instanced dungeons?
|
Man looks so good, abit more diablo 3 then the asian mmo style. It will be sick anyhow! Maybe ill return to MMOs afterall:D

HOLY FUCK YES
I wish Blizzard could make things look/sound/seem as cool as the Lineage people do, because I know there's going to be some ultra-Korean grind or something that'll make the game worse. Still, I am hugely pumped. Aside from the grind, the control scheme/click to move mechanics were obviously the worst part of L2, and it always seemed like it'd be more appropriate for this type of game.
If they keep the open PvP, player-made factions, sieges and PKing, then I am in hook line and sinker. My jaw was dropped for most of that trailer, which is something none of the D3 videos have made me do.

for lineage 1 it was fully persistent world, and no instanced dungeons (or are there? not sure about the new contents)

Korea is gonna go down.

Oh lineage, one of the few staples of the MMO world. They know how to get it done.

... I hate these type of comparisons. GW is nothing like Lineage and Lineage came out way before it. In the first Lineage nothing was 'ínstanced' and it was a completely open world. The PvP was like nothing else at the time as well. If you played on the PvP Dep. Nowhere was safe. Blood pledges would war over everything from hunting grounds to Town ownership. Something I wish more games would uphold.
I'd like to know the first MMO that coined the word raid and instance. Surely it couldn't be WoW, but it definitely made those expressions more mainstream considering so many developers are trying to borrow things from it.
Lineage One definitely took grinding to the next level. There were other games that came along with it as well that were pretty grindy too, but Lineage One's PvP was something completely different and hell. If you made a name for yourself you were a marked target and nowhere was safe. People would come at you with invisibility cloaks and manhunt you left and right with their pledges, lol.

It looks great, but I really do miss the open worlds and considering they are going the Diablo route with this one, I have to question the PvP mechanics a bit more. Just have to wait and see I guess. It would be great to have sieges with more than 500 again let alone battles just for the sake of it.
Nothing like crashing a party on a rival blood pledge trying to kill Val. That and you would have all your friends spread out trying to camp all the bosses which would turn into lengthy fights for the spawn grounds.
There was a reason why NCSoft took out the Dragons for lengthy periods of time, lol.
I don't think most gamers could handle it. The gamers today are very different from the gamers of old, but most of that has to do with the progression of the game developers.
I could definitely see a lot of players rage quitting after dying a few times to the PKers because depending on your level you could lose over a week of work on your character and even at max lawful you could still drop something.
Lineage One was not for the weak at heart and hell, it's HARD to navigate in every aspect of the game. Really not newb friendly at all and one of the reasons for that was the fact it was a completely open world where you needed maps to not only get around, but you had to use tools like the lineagedb in order to figure out your quests and shit.

Looks great but instances ruin MMOs. Sure, they let you play out cool missions and stuff but it kind of cuts off everyone from each other. Its like the open world is just the chatroom in diablo and instances are the game rooms. Do we really need flashy quests and missions of NPC armies fighting it out and stuff? Its unnecessary.
Look at lineage 1. This game had no missions. Almost no quests at all. Just some bosses that spawn every now and then. Everything was player driven. I just loved the fact that the game didnt require you to form parties to hunt. In fact everyone pretty much grinded solo in that game. You dont need 8 player parties with a tank, DD, healer, buffer, bla bla bla. You know? And pvp was so simple but fun. In the early days, knights didnt even have any skills but they were the strongest lol. Haste + brave pot and just slash away while spamming reds.
It might be nostalgia talking, but there was never any game quite like lineage1 since then. That game was fun because it was so fucking hardcore. There was no quests for exp and shit. You can kill whoever you want. You drop items and lose exp when u die. Crazy sieges.
Oh and I think the reason why the pvp was so fun was because of the damage/HP ratio. Its low enough that you wont die in a 1v1 if you are prepared. You can heal faster than any one person can hit you for. You can teleport away instantly if you are getting overwhelmed. So whats the point of fighting you ask? For epeen and making them waste money on pots. In team fights its different though. You can die if people gang up. And sometimes people jump you so fast that you might not react in time (invisible cloaks). Once you join a pledge and make some enemies you have to be on your toes like at all times.
There was this one guy called brutus in the early days before ken server was even made. He was ALWAYS red. I mean always but ive never seen him die lol. What a boss.
PVP in lineage 2 was like... stab, backstab, poke, poke, stab, they die. Potions are useless, and you cant teleport instantly. People dont wana fight cus its harder to be prepared for potential gankers. They dont wana go red. And the dual purple system is stupid. Why do you go purple for fighting back?

I am wondering if this is instanced in the fashion GW has done it or if this is sticking true to the persistent world MMO. I was hoping it would be sticking to its roots even with its new gameplay mechanics.
