But I still think this game is shit compared to source and especially shit compared to 1.6. Everything from the gunplay to the weapons are just..shit, should probably ellaborate further but the word shit just fits so perfectly. It just feels like they are trying to go a little bit more mainstream at the same time as they stay 'true' this will fail because "chase two rabbits and you will catch neither" CoD players won't play it because its not killstreaks and shit!! Counter strike players wont play because its just shit. <_< I just don't see how this will be successful. lol @ saying GO is shit compared to Source. Makes everything you said irrelevant. It's not quite as good as 1.6 yet, but it's pretty damn close. Just takes a couple hours in a death match server to get used to it.

Just takes a couple hours in a death match server to get used to it. You can always count on Quake and CS players to bitch about the new iteration of their game the second it comes out. "This is shit it's nothing like [previous installment]." Sometimes they're right, but it gets really old... It's like all they do is bitch, and they forget how much work it took to get the games of the past up to competitive standards (a.k.a. CS 1.6, CPMA, OSP). They aren't willing to invest the time to make the current game better and to build a community around it, so at some point I kinda just wanna say "fine, fuck off and go back to your little corner with your old game then." It's CS 1.6, not 1.0, and that journey took about 2-3 years.

A lot of great maps in most games aren't made from the developers, they're made from the community or esport events. Steppes of War anyone? I have a league match this week on dust1, and this is what it reminds me of. However, Volcano redid nuke, into de_nuke_ve, and it restored faith and reminded me how awesome the 1.6 maps were. In all honesty, I find the CS:GO version of de_dust a vast improvement over the classic versions. It's a lot more dynamic. Train, on the other hand, feels very CT-favoured, but I never really like that map in the first place.

Whenever I join a game, WMP is instantly paused or iTunes's volume is decreased in the Mixer. I haven't tried it myself but others report that adjusting the appropriate Windows setting addresses this problem. In Windows 7, that's: Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Sound -> Communications tab -> "Do Nothing" option instead of mute/reduce

As has probably been said before, it's not necessarily a big deal if a map is favored one way or the other, since you have to play both sides anyway. It's more important that the maps be fun and promote interesting strategy over trying to be perfectly balanced, I think.

Obviously I realise with games like these practice is the main component to improving, but if you guys have any tips for newbies then I'm all ears, I'll probs need them tomorrow night :D

That helps me get in the zone sometimes and learn from others. Also, having the right mouse sensitivity is important for aiming well. Try to learn how to shoot one gun at a time - pick one or 2 to get good with then move on to another once you're comfortable. Each gun has a unique personality to learn.

The CS games are some of the more difficult games compared to other FPSs out there. It took me months in cs 1.6 before I finally stopped getting wrecked in pubs. I'm no pro or anything, but you need a general feel for the shooting style (recoil, burst fire, spraying, etc.) of the main weapons. Also, for me at least, if I don't know the map I'm playing on like the back of my hand (every path, hiding spot, general team flow, etc.) than I get absolutely wrecked. Yeah, so it may take a while before you can start to hold your own against even other non-competitive players. This is coming from a noob myself.

It's a bug, sorta. You still need to buy the game. When you do, the non-beta version will appear in your games list as well.
