You Xbox controller simply doesn't have enough buttons to do all of that at the same time. Plus tiny thumbstick is inadequate for flying a badass machine of death.

Yeah I remember that, but what I thought of was to play with the controller only for the analog stick on it (plus some buttons) and keep the rest on the keyboard.

keyboard + joystick then? that's what i do when playing il-2 cliffs of dover. ultra realistic flight sim. though i tend to use the mouse as well to move controls that i don't need in flight. :D

You can probably get one at whatever pricepoint you choose in between. i played it with a cheap 20 DM ~ 15 euro now joystick when i was a child. MY friend had this huuuuge sidewinder thing that costed a fortune and i liked my small stick much better. Its not exactly a flight simulator, so it doesnt need the 350€ pro simulator stick 5000.

Or when i was young, Pilot and Co-pilot. I was playing with my cousin and i was master of keyboard ! he would pilot and scream : "Shield 75% Forward, Double laser" and i was like : "Shield 75% froward roger, Opening wings, Double laser roger". It's kind of hard to play with one hand on a controller though.
