Does anyone remember playing counter-strike at the turn of the century? Counter-Strike was released in its beta stage in the summer of 1999. In the spring of 2000 Counter-Strike Beta 6.1 became the most popular first person shooter online. Then Valve took over! The rest is history. Counter-strike was unbelievable before Valve bought the publishing rights. The map variety was incredible. This was before the days of de_dust2 and de_inferno. Way back when the M4A1 had a scope and was always silenced. The graphics were rugged and crisp. There was no Steam, no advertisements, no nonsense. If anyone is interested in playing, send me a message. There are 5 servers online 24/7 and even keeps stats for every player who joins. 2 of them are in France, 2 in Germany and 1 in U.S.A It is fully old school. you just need to install half life and update it to version 1.0.1.6 and then install Counter-Strike Beta 6.1 and this is very important you need to change your "cstrike" folder name to "cstrk61" so that you could also install Counter-Strike Beta 5.2 and its folder name has to be "cstrk52" even if you dont install one of the betas 5.2 or 6.1 the folder names has to be as "cstrk61" or "cstrk52" and you are done. now you run the game Multiplayer-Internet Games, the a screen appears "connecting to won" that screen appears like 1 minute long. yon need to wait 1 minute and the comes the empty server list. Add servers:
And we play all the maps ppl played before. The servers have a huge map pack. We mostly play. Cs_Militia Cs_Siege Cs_Docks. we can vote for the map ingame. The servers are not temporal. they were lasting for more than 3 years. And they will always be. 24/7 Online and awailable. And they also have perfect Stats system. For more info please visit “www.betastrike.net“ I'm looking forward to play together. and if you guys send me a personal message or mail me "gordon.tundra01@yahoo.com" i will mail you our weekly counter strike beta 6.1 or 5.2 events. I have a Mailing list for anyone who is interested. So that you will know when ppl are on the server. We are not more than 30 ppl in that community yet but if we grow longer we can make the servers full all the time. And i'm sure there are alot of ppl still wanna play Counter-Strike Beta 6.1 and 5.2 but the just dont know about the servers. So any one person is welcome to play with us. and if you can bring as much as possible with you please. Send me a mail or message so i can also include you into the mailing list and we play together every week-day. gordon.tundra01@yahoo.com If you guys subscribe here “http://lists.order-of-phalanx.net/listinfo/betastrike” to the bottom of the page where it says “Betastrike Subscribers” you will be informed about the weekly gaming events to play together via email and this is nothing dangerous, not spam no nothing. Thanks in advance. We are looking forward to play together as soon as possible. And we have another event next week tuesday or thursday. If you can subscribe you will receive a mail for the exact time of the game. Because we did not decide which day to play yet. Bring your old Counter-Strike player friends too so we can make the servers full all the time. GLHF
most of my friends get really confused when i say "i used to play cs back when it was 5.2" and they mostly reply with "but, it´s only 1.6 now, retard..." damn i love cs the way it was back then might try this one out!
nice dont forget to subscribe guys. so that we can inform you about the gaming events via f every week. since we are about 30 ppl in this community there are not many people in the servers. so we have weekly events informing everyone to join at the same time if we get some more people we will make 2 events every week. and eventually we will have our servers full all the time
and valaki yes mate that is the version when m4a1 had a scope
Oh man, good old beta CS. LOVED ITT!!! Started playing CS in some beta 4 orso, good old times. I loved playing this weird maps, like es_highrise or cs_docks. Now every single server is dust2 dust2 dust2 dust2 dust2.... so boring!!! Ill maybe hop on the server from time to time
I always thought it was funny that people in the CS community would cry bloody murder at every patch and refuse to update for a few months. Then after they finally updated, a new patch would be released and they'd complain all over again. It's especially funny that players consider 1.6 to be the holy grail of FPS gaming and refuse to play Source given this history. I have a feeling that whenever Valve makes a CS: Source 2, everyone that plays 1.6 now will switch to Source and claim it's the best version ever.
I'm confused why that guy got banned for asking if beta was when m4's had scopes lol.
Anyways, CS beta was pretty epic but I mean theres really no way this takes a huge competitive edge, it'll just be people playing for fun a la people playing halo 1 or halo 2 together still.
He got banned because he asked for something that has been answered in the 5th line of the OP.
I started playing CS at 1.1 heh I knew there were old school 1.3 servers still up but didn't know about beta servers. I might hop on sometime. Old CS = best CS.
I just remember day of defeat beta in that you always pick the soviets because the grenadier has a 1hko bolt action rifle whereas the riflemen on the allies requires two shots.
Never made sense to me who designed that idea but it was funny
The day they took out bunny hopping was the day the game died to me. Cool initiative to have beta servers though. Newer generations to gaming will be like how do i connect to a server there is no automatch or server browser!
alright guys. our next gaming event will be on 10 March 2011 Thursday at 7pm gmt+2 and we will be playing about 3 hours. the game will be on Phalanx Cs beta 6.1 server. and again if you can subscribe http://lists.order-of-phalanx.net/listinfo/betastrike we can always let you know about the weekly gaming event date and times. And also keep in mind when you click internet games after launching the game the screen "Connecting to WON" will appear for 1 minute long. Just wait 1 min there. I will also tell you how to make it not wait 1 min later.
i might actually join, if i bother to finally install windows on my mac via bootcamp.
i started playing cs around beta2 (don't know exactly), but i still remember the most played maps back then where mansion, siege and desert. i loved cs, but further and further decreasing accuracy while running and jumping and finally eliminating strafe jumping in 1.3 killed the game for me.
i find it quite depressing that a close to perfect game got nerfed so much to please the casuals, up to a point where the gameplay mainly rewards static and defensive play.

I've never played the beta, but that sounds a lot like Quake. I don't like Quake. I'm glad they made the changes. Syllogisms.

well i can't argue against your taste, and your opinion is totally legit. but i liked the combination of quick and dirty action (à la quake) with "real" guns and the tactical components of objective based maps and the buy system.
there was, and to my knowledge currently is, no game like the old cs; urbanterror (which i quite like as well) has the action and speed, but misses the gun ecosystem and the tactical refinement in it's objective based modes. most shooters take either the quake route of raw action or the "new" cs route of cautious and tactical, objective based play. cs once had a very nice balance of these elements until it moved heavily into the latter direction.
siege was such a fun map. had many fun times when i was young playing maps like it at a LAN cafe with friends.
also the dude who asked if the m4a1 has a scope probably got banned because the OP said it. if you're going to reply without reading the OP you should be ready to get punished

Yep, fun times. Can't imagine why they took it out. :p
Played 1.1, 1.3 (1.2 was retail cs and I used HL) 1.4, 1.5, 1.6. I played the earlier versions at a friends house. I actually got my own HL1 the week 1.1 came out because I had played the earlier versions at my friends house. It was a burned copy from my cousin's friend xD, which I later registered to steam in 2003 lol o_o;;
I remember a patch would come out, I would come home after school like grade 5/6, find out that like all my favorite servers were missing, and that like there were only a few left, and for a day or two I wouldnt know what happened until I realized the game had a patch :D
Siege was one of my most favorite maps, god that map was bamf.
Anyways, i'll try it out and get my bhop skills back on, i was legit back in 1.1 before they patched it. Too bad corpses wont stay on the ground as that was not implemented in 1.4, or no voice comms unless its been modded in as that was 1.3.
Which beta version did they change it so that guns despawned after each round? I remember rushing to pick up what ever weapon you dropped last round so you didnt have to buy :D
I still have beta 3.1 on my HDD somewhere. You know, back when weapons dropped on the ground didn't disappear. Now *that* was oldschool.
7.1 was the best version imho though. Still, kickass!
Would be awesome if this happened for Natural Selection, too. I loved that game. Fuck steam, I had a legit HL version, too. When steam came, the code wasn't longer valid. WHAT?!

Man some of the early NS versions had some funny things, babblers anyone? :D
I'm very glad to find this post about the CS Group that I'm still forming part. This is Our Web Sites and New FB Group. We hope that you could join us the Fridays at the Events.
Action Quake 2 was the best and the REAL predesessor to CS. Also made by Cliffe and Goose. That shit was crazy and i have the fondest memories of playing that when i was a kid. Knife throwing was the funniest shit.

@ Ota Solgryn, yes Absolutely. By the way, you still have some Old Stuffs, from that era?
