what.
i don't believe you played BC2
They were pretty useless compared to semi autos and autos.
No they weren't the Gol was amazing
No it was pretty shit. Not a 1 shot kill on long range and bolt action, the full auto and semi auto worked fine both for long and short range. Gol worked for sitting in a bush and sniping engineers who stood still behind tanks, but not much more beyond that.
Or that's the impression I got, recon with the full auto Russian thing almost felt OP.
You obviously never used the GOL... The Gol WAS a 1 shot kill and it was the most accurate gun in the game. Even from 2000 meters+ you could easily adjust the trajectory of the bullet to hit pretty much anyone. Semi-Autos were good too, but they were at least a 2 hit kill with Magnum Ammo and its much harder to put two shots on a moving target than 1.
Stop talking shit, it was a one shot kill at close to medium range. Not long range unless you get a headshot. And that's long range in BC2 terms, which isn't very long at all.
35 seconds in.
Anyhow, if anyone is in the alpha do you know if you can disable the negative mouse acceleration BC2 had going on? I tried the fix posted in whatever forum thread way back but it disabled turrets and did all kinds of funky shit.
This video doesn't prove anything. You have to take magnum ammo, body armor and hard/softcore mode into consideration.
I'm pretty sure that in hardcore mode with mag ammo on, the GOL will 1 hit kill anything NOT wearing body armor.
Edit: This video is in softcore mode which I think does make it a 2 shot kill w/ mag ammo on still? I don't know, I only play hardcore. Seemed to take like 50 bullets to kill anything in softcore.

Shouldn't playing the game prove enough? But yeah, I wasn't referring to hardcore mode. I can't remember it being a one shot kill at long ranges there either, but I didn't play a whole lot of hardcore, odds are my memories are just mixing up. Not played for about six months. In non hardcore it took one shot on close-medium ranges, and two shots on long. Magnum ammo increased the range for one shot kills quite a bit.

Also they are muuuch better on PC as you have to aim above and lead your target which isn't very well supported with the aim-assist needed with controllers.
Each to their own, I couldn't see any reason to use them over semi autos. To be frank I wasn't too fond of the whole recon class. It was like a sniper that tried to not be a sniper, and I found it to be more efficient to play it like more like a behind the lines assault class spamming motion detector thingies.
Well, sniper rifles in BC2 are really powerful on public servers with some random newbies playing. Trust me, on high level sniper rifles were useless either in 4v4 SquadRush or 8v8 CQ/Rush Recon class was pretty good because of sensors (useless on FFA but efficient during clan matches), but still you would rather have another medic instead of recon. Medic > Recon unless there is a super big distance between both, but an exeperienced medic just won't let this kind of situation to happen. Sniper rifles in BF3 seem to be more efficient because of general balance (Medics in BC2 were ridicolously overpowered) and fixed hitboxes

Obviously snipers sucked in 4v4 and were better when it was 16v16+, thats common sense to be expected, but the main reason they are of little use past pub matchups was just because of how powerful the medic was in BC2. If they tone that down in BF3 the sniper will naturally regain some utility.
I tell ya, after watching some of that alpha footage I am even MORE excited for 32 vs 32 on big maps oh my god. To bad its still 3 months away
On the bright side at least there is a beta in september open I believe so I can't wait for that (just hope its conquest mode not rush even though I"ll play either :D)

Is that an open beta or the MoH one?
MoH guys get beta few days/weeks earlier, but eventually everybody who wants to will be able to play BF3 before release.
I see, man there's a lot of games coming out when I stop having freetime. Glad there's an open beta at least, couldn't bring myself to purchase CoD4:MW MoH Edition.
no motion sensors is soooooo good. cannot wait. hope they dont somehow cock it up.
also for those who only played bc2 rush seeing as i guess most here are pc players the rush game mode was brilliant in bc1 which werent corridor levels and allowed flanking but bc2 rush is just a nightmare
Yeah, the battlefield (pun intended) will be insane with the amount of shit going on. It will be even more fun if you play with people who want to play how the game is made. Teamwork, communication, and strategy.
You can't tell if the sniper has mag ammo on in the video (from the small amount I saw anyways, didnt watch the whole vid), nor if the person he shot at 34 sec has body armor on.
