one of my friends got the invite as well, funny that he doesn't even play bc2 that often, just from time to time. meh you know how's life, after all.

Well, you can have a decent change of getting invite by just going to the support chat and tell that the alpha testing site doesn't recognize your games and thats why you cannot reach the "veteran" status. Many did the same and got the veteran status, and some got alpha invite.

starsiege tribes did 64 player CTF in 1998, and it was almost playable without broadband. Tribes 2 had both ground and air vehicles in 2001

consoles put multiplayer gaming back literal decades with arbitrary bandwidth limits and little or no dedicated server support

He's misinformed. 64 is the player max.

Modders figured out how to get 128 player servers in BF2 a while back. There are 128 player servers for Forgotten Hope 2 and Project Reality.

So apparently, BF3 has player perks such as sprint, extra ammo, etc. How do you guys feel about this? I thought the vehicle perks from Bad Company 2 was fine, but I'm afraid that this might become another CoD.

it appears like it is going back to a more 2142 approach, there were ammo upgrades and sprint and other things like that in 2142. IMO it was a great system.

It's not bad. Faster sprint is a 5% increase for example. They seem like little boosts instead of game changers so far.
