Had a discussion about sniping and essentially stated that they're working on unnerfing snipers a bit. Asked for civil responses and apparently got a lot of them. He updated the first post a few times when he read all the posts to a certain page. Seems to have slowed down now, though, as most of what could be said has been said.
Points of interest
(1) We are evaluating the damage and hit box multipliers. Especially, if the weapon is suppressed. (2) We are moving what many of you refer to as the "sniper rifle patch" into tunables we can adjust easier so that we can do some real-time experimentation
So decent chance of possibly making headshots a OHK even with a silencer, which a lot of people have asked for/complained about after playing MW2. He also said he was never much of a sniper when stating that he had problems using the sniper rifles in Black Ops online. Go figure, the guy nerfing snipers and is anti-quickscoping doesn't really use sniper rifles.
Either way, nice to see them working on it. Between the maps and the sniper rifle changes, using one currently is rather obnoxious.

I'll take COD4 spawns system over Black Ops any day of the week at this point. I hear WaW didn't have a bad system either. Now granted, I was younger and wasn't paying as much attention to the finer details of the game such as the spawning when I initially played COD4, but the only time I can recall really having a problem with it was on Countdown when it would spawn your team inside one of the hangars. You would basically just get wrecked by either A - Walk outside and get shot, or B - Stay inside and get a downpour of grenades sent your way. Never had a -huge- problem with it, but I have read some people say the spawn system was bad in COD4 (too predictable maybe?) so maybe I just didn't play in a way that exposed me to it as much? (or wasn't good enough to notice when it screwed me). I did like to flank a lot with silenced SMGs so it should've been noticeable. Then again I mostly stuck to TDM and HQ so maybe game mode related. Very little Dom (spawn trap central) or Sabotage and next to no Search.
Even on Downpour it isn't too bad, as the level isn't designed too horrifically and there's cover to work with even if you're getting pushed back.
Headquarters was pretty silly at times, though, with the team that had the previous HQ spawning on top of the new HQ half the time. That was more of the HQ not having a delay before coming online than it was the spawns, though. Screw you, Wetwork. I'm still not sure whether I'd take Shipment HQ, in all it's triple frag + martyrdom glory, or Nuketown HQ.
I've barely played Black Ops in almost a week. It is not a terrible game by any stretch (for anyone trying to get a feel for it before buying by reading this thread), it's just that after playing COD for so long the minor things irritate me more and more.
I'm also thinking that some of the internet problems are on my end. Some are Black Ops, as others have complained about drops/disconnects, but I was trying FFXIV the other day (lol @ 3 free months) with some friends and started lagging like mad there. Amusingly the game/combat was playable, but I was choppy as shit when I tried to talk on vent (heard others more or less fine) and I noticed my vent ping spike like it does when playing Black Ops. So while Black Ops is partially to blame for some of them, not all of my lag/connection issues have been the fault of Treyarch's coding.
I don't think the spawn system could be much better (at least, most logical spawnpoints are spawns already), the problem is 9v9, if the games were 6v6 the spawns would be much better I think.
Just set my mouse more sensitive, I suck hard right now :p
Spawns aren't bad, though I mostly play CTF. However FFA being completely unplayable is something I find I have an issue with, is there any reason that all the servers are 18 players only?

No idea. You'd have to ask Activision, as they decided to set a hard cap on ranked servers at 18 slots.

Server is ranked with an 18 player limit.
This server is hosted in Amsterdam, NL
you can't search on IP, what kind of server btw?
Your post confuses me.
a) What do you mean "can't search on IP"?
b) What do you mean "what kind of server"?
I was given no options for server type other thank Ranked/Unranked, and in general there are no available settings to change other than setting an admin password and a server name. Seeing as every Black Ops server in the world is hosted through the same company, there's not really anything I can do differently.
So, not sure I understand your statement + question >.<

what kind of server:
it is possible to change some settings, in unranked it's even possible to change all of them. I've played on 24/7 nuketown, 24/7 Domination and all kinds of servers. Standard is probably TDM all maps. I can't tell you where you can do that, never bought a server myself.
can't search on IP:
There isn't any way for us to use your IP in the server browser, we need at the least a server name (or I've missed something)

Sorry to butt in, but I think you can use the console (~) and connect to an ip by typing "connect ip" ... at least this was the case in cod4 & 5

I see. I was afraid of that. Leave it to Call of Duty to disallow console. The server name is "Stasys Gaming TL Server (Public)"
As for configuration, the only config file they allow you to edit has two things you can change; hostname and rcon password. Since I do not own or intend to own this game, and was simply trying to host this for TL, it's a slight issue. The only way to change settings is by changing them in-game.
This whole Black Ops hosting ordeal is reaaaaaaally stupid. I didn't think an FPS could have such awful multiplayer support =/
I will probably just make prodiG an admin and he can set up some stuff on it, but it may take a few days to get everything going. For now, it's whatever comes default.

console is allowed,I'll search if I can join ip's that way, never played a game with console before, so I didn't think about it I'll edit whether it works or not.
EDIT: Nope, there is no connect command yet, also I couldn't find the server in the list, but that could be a local problem.

I have no idea, the server list is weird. I have my filters set to see every single server, and I'm not even getting close to all of them. Every server is listed as a US server on my list, save for only two, and strangely one of them is in Amsterdam, NL (although it isn't the same one).
In 54 pages of thread, (although I skimmed very quickly) I didn't find much on the single player.
I'm not much of a FPS multiplayer fan, but I always start on Vet since COD MW1. With that being said, I'm a little disappointed in the single player.
Firstly, and least importantly, the story is hilariously bad. It's like a less creative and more feasible version of Assassin's Creed. Flashbacks take great narrative skill that most FPS shooters can't really afford to offer. Because if I'm like most people, (and I think I am in this respect) I need a plot out of an FPS about as much as I need a plot out of a porno. If it's just badass's doing badass things while saying badass things, you CANNOT go wrong. (ie Duke Nukem) If you add 50 twists in your plot that no one cares about you're that game that wasn't as good as Half Life 2. (Singularity)
Secondly, playing on Veteran is poorly done. There are stages where mobs never quit coming, and this part is only mildly frustrating, but still manageable. There are OTHER stages where you are supposed to follow people through gunfights, and it's like rolling 6 dice hoping you get 36. You have to follow Godmode NPCs and literally just hope you don't die... and it makes me say the most hateful things about the game.
Lastly, I'm one of those dudes who pirates games, and still buys them. I bought MW1-2 and World at war after cracking them, I support good games, but I debate the need to purchase this one. I haaaaaate steam, and I hate being online to play Nazi Zombie, which should be single player if I want it to be. As it is now, I don't have to mess with steam and I'll probably be able to LAN it over hamachi in the future. In addition to being similar to Assassin's Creed in plot, it is also similar in that the retail version requires so much DRM/Internet/Steam that the pirated version is simply -a better game-. You get all the game and none of the third party hassle. Steam won't ever tell me after I've done EVERYTHING in single player "SORRY! We can't sync with you? You did literally nothing but move your computer from one location to another and now you have to start ALL over or just give up. UMAD Bro?" (Yes, steam said all that Not really, just the part about not syncing, but it did happen when I just MOVED my computer, all the Intel and Spec ops stars were gone just like POOF!)
EDIT: So you can play Zombie Nazi in Single player after beating it. When I clicked Zombie and didn't get to play cause of steam I jumped to a conclusion. Lesson learned.

basically you change the server name to ^000000000 and it will always show on top bit annoying but once people join they can favorite the server and you can change it back
another way is inviting people to the server, so you'd have to be friends with them first
its really terrible that in this day and age a multiplayer experience has to be so cumbersome

If your lucky. For me it does, but there are days it doesn't and for some people it never does.
Also, it sometimes crashes/freezes for me.
I'm enjoying the game more and more though. I'm finally at the level I can play different classes and still do well. Sniping isn't as impossible as people make it sound, and silent Spas is very fun once in a while. Thanks to people in this thread I play with ak74u rapidfire as my submachine of choice and that;s great too. What I play depends mostly on the map/opponents though.
Sniping is possible currently, it's just really, really irritating. The above video took quite awhile for the person to get. Far longer than it would have in previous games. It isn't really a matter of that player being bad with the sniper that caused the length either, as you can tell the person is fairly skilled.
I've used the sniper a bit, and often go positive with it, but it felt incredibly frustrating and limited (and often times I get more kills with the pistol/a gun picked up off the ground than the actual sniper rifle). The sniper rifles are useable, but they aren't quite on par with the other primary guns at the moment, which is what Treyarch is working on addressing.

Thanks, so i just have to get lucky? :S I'm kinda scared paying $90 for a game that i don't know will work properly.
