This game.
It defined my childhood and taught me values of friendship, love, and trust.
Life is run, it is dance, it is fast, passionate and BAM!, you dance and sing and booze while you can for now is the time and time is mine. Smile and laugh when still can for now is the time and soon you die!

Mostly obscure Mac games from some demo disc my mum brought home attached to a mac magazine. I'd be really surprised if anyone knew:

Munchies:

Factory: The Industrial Devolution

Taskmaker
[image loading]

Unfortunately these games all ran on OS.9, which is no longer supported and is kind of a bitch to emulate.

Also on the disc:

Warcraft: Orcs and Humans (played the 2 missions in the demo dozens of times)

Escape Velocity (Great series that runs on modern windows machines)

Sim City 2000
(So many wasted hours)

Gosh this is getting me so nostalgic. These are the games from my really early childhood... I'd guess from ages 8-12

Although I love pc games from the late 90's and early 2000's (Fallouts, Planescape Torment, Grim Fandango, Starcraft, Diablo2) It would sort of be a lie to classify them as childhood games. They're more teenageish.

This was the first game I ever pirated (or maybe it was just a demo i dunno). My dad dialed in to a BBS and pulled this game off of there, and I was just STUNNED. "y...you got a video game over the PHONE LINE???"

Anyway, yeah it kicked ass. and so did:

I totally forgot that game was a Duke Nukem game, though! I remember playing it a lot but never associated it with the 3D duke nukem games (which I never really played, but heard a lot about).

Anyway, if you recognise my ID, you'll know my most influential childhood game:

Beeing a nintendo-kid i had almost all the great SNES-RPGs. In fact, i think the SNES is still uncontested in the amount of quality RPG per console.

I'm still getting shivers when i see that titlescreen and hear the music. So beautiful.

While Secret of Evermore was never as popular and probably not as good, i still like the story a lot and i had really great graphics for the time.

Illusion of Time (aka Illusion of Gaia) had a beautiful story, made me cry at the end. Also nice fighting system and some more serious topics. Great game.

Terranigma had possibly the best theme music i've ever heard. <3

Lufia 2

Ahh all the great memories...

Gotta add one more...
Tank Racer
[image loading]

My cousin who was 7 years older than me had this one on his computer. I played it almost every time I went over. He wasn't a big fan of games so I usually had to beg. He would drive and I would aim the gun. It's like mario kart with tanks. So much wacky stuff could happen. Man that was fun.

For whatever reason tanks aren't as cool as they were in the 90's.

what game is this? my eyes haven't laid eyes on these pixels since my dad was playing it like 12+ years ago lol holy fuck.

Skimming through this thread made me realize how many works of art have been made and nearly forgotten within our lifetime and the evolution of the computer. I wonder if anyone will be playing some of these games hundreds of years from now like they are classics or something. Seems plausible that a historian or something could be playing brood war centuries from now.

God this thread made me remember so much games I forgot I even played.
Feeling all nostalgic and old now. Got me thinking of all my youth and the arcades I used to go to when on vacation etc.

For posterity sake another few great games on which I spent a lot of my time:

Zork 1
[image loading]

Hexxagon
[image loading]

Major Stryker
[image loading]

Darkwing Duck (NES)

Heroes 2
[image loading]

Warhammer: Dark Omen
[image loading]

Armymen 2
[image loading]

Dethkarz
[image loading]

And lots and lost that are all ready mentioned or I have still forgotten

Only system I had before a shared computer in high school was a gameboy (parents weren't big on me playing video games :/) Pokemon was the first game I ever played, I loved it.

All the kids in my development used to play N64 at my next-door neighbor's house, favorites were smash and goldeneye.

In middle school and early high school we played AoE2 in the computer classes, some kid kept finding new places to hide the game folder on the public drive xD.

Had to add one more that just crossed my mind:

Blockout
[image loading]

And there was this racing game (late eighties / early nineties probably) in 3 colors (purple/Blue/Black probably). Where you saw through the front window of your car and you could shoot at the other drivers.
Every time you destroyed one of them you got a piece of information about them. Like what their favorite food was, how old they were, where they lived etc.

After the race you could upgrade your car with better rockets, better armor etc.

If somebody knows how this game was called I'm eternally grateful. It's bugging me for some time now.
Life is to give and take. You take a vacation and you give to the poor.
