With BotG coming out, I'm going to try a variation of the Green White aggro builds out there. I'm making the deck a base white build so I can use Brave the Elements, and with Brimaz being a staple, cutting some green cards (Experiment One in the 1 drop and Boon Satyr in the 3 drop) will make the mana base a little better (which was a problem in THS). Previously, the double white on Banisher Priest and Ajani wasn't an issue because you would rarely cast them on turn 3. With wanting to curve out with Brimaz however, I think going base white is the right choice.
Here is the deck: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/green-white-aggro-base-white/
I'm worried about Mono-Blue however. In Theros, Mono-Blue was our worst matchup, hence the maindeck Skylashers and Mistcutter Hydras. Any ideas on how to tweak the sideboard or the maindeck to help versus that matchup? My ideas for the maindeck are taking out 2x Advent for 2x Mistcutter and swapping a Loxodon for a Banisher Priest.
Also, I don't think I'll be getting more Brimaz soon (only have 1). So would adding a Banisher Priest (to make 4x mainboard) and a single Heliod be a suitable replacement? (I eventually aim to have 4 and cut a Loxodon Smiter if they end up working well.)

Revoke existence is nice SB vs monoblue.
|
Selesnya Charm already deals with Thassa, and I don't think I would need more Thassa counters. (Well I don't think my deck would be able to fit it in.)
Although hitting DSphere and Underworld Connections is good, Control isn't a problem for me and I think Mono Black sides out most of their connections vs Aggro.

4 Skylasher SB is a must vs mono blue. 2 Skylasher or 1 skylasher +1 unflinching courage turn 3 is auto win. I'd cut the Hydra, with only 22 lands they won't get big enough anyway
I am not sure about the 4 Brimaz either, I fear there is a big chance they'll be sitting in your hand.
|
I'll try the Skylashers vs Mistcutters. I think that'll require some playtesting though because I could also make arguments for Mistcutter.
I want 4 Brimaz because if I have one on the field, they need to deal with it. If they don't, Brimaz will win. If they do, I can play another one. It is kind of the same reasoning for 4x Polukranos. Also this is my end game plan. I only have 1 Brimaz, and I expect to stop at 3 because $$$. (Wait for him to go down before my fourth)

4 Brimaz is pointless. You never want to strand cards in your hand and no Brimaz doesnt always win what happens then if you have multiples?
|
Yeah he's no geist, I'd stick to 3.

Think the only mono-white legendary that I ever wanted 4 of was Lin Scoopy. Maybe Hound of Konda.
|
4 Thalias seem justifiable in the right deck.

Opened my first BotG booster, got a Phenax!

Lin was only 4 of because of the mirror, counter-rebels could run 3 because of Brainstorm but then it turned into "who could get Lin out first" in the mirror prompting the move to 4.
Initially all Rebel decks used were just the sergeants and 8 bears to blitz while using Reverent Mantra to alpha strike past blockers.
The nostalgia's killing me!

I never remotely considered playing that deck, so I wouldn't know. I know hatebears in Legacy can play 4 of those.
|
Thalia works as a four of because when she hits she's always the number one kill target, she breaks all combo strategies in legacy and buys you extra turns in a deck that relies on tempo beatdown to win
|
Ya, thalia is also very fragile. Brimaz is much more likely so stay around with 4 toughness.
|
Brimaz fails the doomblade test.
|
Brimaz is insanely overhyped simply because the rest of the set is so incredibly weak. He's strong, don't get me wrong, but he's like a 2 of in the Orzhov aggro deck running around and nothing more.
|
Thalia is good namely because it creates better lines against Wrath and the tempo bought by her actually creates issues against some decks namely control and decks like Delver (duh).
Brimaz at 3 isn't the same.

The real question around is what do you take out for him? compare him to other 3 drops, Ajani? Reckoner? banisher priest? is it worth losing those abilities for a dude that possibly makes 1/1s? I think so but I dont think right now or with the current decks.

I've been out of the scene for many many years (almost 10) so it's tough learning all the new trends in todays game...but this thread has helped! Anyone play on Magic-League? Doesn't seem to be as popular as it was back in the day.
