Edit: 3-1 and I have to leave bc family is in town, sigh. Would have made top 8 np. Cracked about 160 worth of cards and got 40 store credit off of 60 dollars buy in. Glad I did the events. 1 vraska 3 overgrown tomb 2 abrupt decay 1 angel of serenity 1 uw oring 3 grove of the guardian (2 promo) 1 corpsejack (regular version, not golgari promo) Some other stuff I can't remember off the top of my head.

Because the dice is the best looking RB is the worst red text on blue back ground omg so ugly I rank the color of the dice in GW GB RB UW (It's mostly because the white they used is so off white sorta hue is off or something it's nasty looking white) RU

You got your prize packs already? At my store they said I can't have my box til Thursday @ midnight, and that it was standard? Either way, good for you and your win! I cracked a pretty nice 6 packs to make my deck and trade fodder. Lich Lord Sphere Dreadbore Lotleth Troll So I easily made my money back even had I not won, got some other nice U's n C's. Weird fact: Only 1 shocklands was opened at the entire event!? O.o

Anyways, I changed from Azorious to Selesnya and it was the rightest decision I had ever made. Decklist in no particular order: + Show Spoiler + Azorious Justiciar Cyclonic Rift 2 Trostani's Judgement Call of the Conclave Phantom General Slime Molding 3 Eyes in the Skies Growing Ranks Trostani, Selesnya's Voice Centaur Healer Centaur's Herald Rootborn Defenses Sunspire Griffin Savage Surge Dryad Militant Gate Creeper Vine Aerial Predation Druid's Deliverance Arrest Azorious Arrester I felt like I could have gone 15-0 with this deck. It built itself and basically played itself to a perfect record.

Don't feel bad, I didn't open that much either, I guess my big cards were about 35 worth. Better to crack less and win the tourny then crack big and lose. They only had one other Golgari set for that event and he cracked Vraska/Abrupt, worth 60 alone, idk all his other cards, but he dropped after he lost round one.

Anyways, I wanted to comment on some card thoughts for limited: 1. Stab Wound is very sweet. I nearly dropped a game because it was attached to my Centaur Healer and I couldn't remove it. I wouldn't be particularly pleased to pick it 1st in a a draft but it's just one of those cards that feels like it will be a limited staple. 2. I don't think Swift Justice is as good as the hype. 3. Azorious Justiciar amazing. It's double white for a reason. WRB seems like it could be an aggressive tempo archetype. 4. Speaking of Justiciar, does anyone feel like there are some uncommons that are freakishly strong? Dreg Mangler, Bloodfray Giant, Hellhole Flailer? I imagine Lyev Skyknight should probably be in this group but I found it to be pretty mediocre against the best card in the format - 1/1 White Bird Tokens. 5. I played against 3 Mizzium Mortars and it was ever only okay.

Selesnya decks all died when I just detained them once and none of the decks I played could get past anything with 4 toughness (in a relevant time frame).

It is not Midnight Haunting, it is not bad if you have multiple tokens out, but very bad if you don't. Selesnya decks all died when I just detained them once and none of the decks I played could get past anything with 4 toughness (in a relevant time frame). 4 toughness is probably the high water mark for this format. For fliers it might be 3 toughness though. So much stuff is lower power dorks hovering around 2-3 power. I faced a deck that had Lobber Crews + Door Keepers + Voidwalkers and it was really hard breaking the stall. Works so well with Stab Wound. Maybe it was my Sealed Pool and the stuff I faced, but I find that Enchantments and removal for Enchantments are really important (Stab Wound, Arrest, Knightly Valour, etc.) Going to make something like Dramatic Rescue (and maybe Faerie Invaders) really important. Also lets you reuse ETB triggers. On October 01 2012 03:24 slyboogie wrote: 4. Speaking of Justiciar, does anyone feel like there are some uncommons that are freakishly strong? Then again, I feel like I was rolling with the Selesnyan nuts. So I may have a skewed thought.

A bunch of 3/1 fliers, 2/2 and 2/1 detainers will get them 6 or 7 but I've never saw anything from Azorious that was going to win it upon resolution past turn 6 or 7. Even the promo and Isperia could be dealt with Charm, Predation, Trostani's Judgement. Unless you just dropped an Angel on their ass, Blustersqualled them good or their deck was just sub-optimum(aka sealed.) I don't think much of Azorious's creatures - and I love Pillarfield Oxen. Then again, I feel like I was rolling with the Selesnyan nuts. So I may have a skewed thought. You do. There were only 3 removal spells in my entire pool: Annihilating Fire, Selesnya Charm, and Ultimate Price. I was only able to run one of them. The deck I lost against had: Azorius Promo, Sphinx of the Chimes, Supreme Verdict, Angel of Serenity, and 2x Avenging Arrows and a Paralyzing Grasp for removal. Both our games went like this: T1 shaman for me, T4 something for me that gets bounced on the next turn, T5 replay my T4 thing, T6 play another 4 drop, he drops Verdict into Sphinx/Promo game 2 and just promo game 1. He was under 5 life both times ![]() My Deck: + Show Spoiler + 1x Golgari Guildgate 2x Golgari Longlegs 1x Drudge Beetle 1x Grim Roustabout 1x Stonefare Crocodile 1x Dead Reveler 2x Corpsejack Menace 1x Korozda Guildmage 1x Ultimate Price 1x Perilous Shadow 1x Golgari Decoy 1x Stab Wound 1x Dark Revanent 1x Axebane Guardian 1x Gatecreeper Vine 1x Giant Growth 1x Jarad's Orders 1x Collective Blessing 1x Archweaver 1x Sluiceway Scorpion 1x Mind Rot 1x Deathrite Shaman and Lands Unplayed rares were Righteous Authority and Guild Feud. Like I said earlier, 1-1 drop. Signs you're playing in a poorly run tournament: 1) It starts at 12:30. 2) There's room to comfortably seat 40 and they let 85 in. 3) There's no DCI judge. 4) The person running the tournament is playing in it. 5) You let people deckbuild and play on your counter. 6) It takes over 30 mnutes to enter in wins and losses and get the next round going. 7) When people are called to numbered positions without the numbers being on the tables. 6 rounds of that bullshit would have me up till past 8, when I was supposed to wake up anyway, AND they didn't have enough product for prize support so 2-8 were getting store credit.

That sounds like an awful experience.. I feel like the quality of pre-releases and the amount of fun to be had has dropped severely since they got rid of the big official pre-releases and are letting the stores do them. For those of you testing, brainstorming for states, I need your help teamliquid magic players! I am trying to get a list together so my friend can mail me a deck for states, I haven't played paper magic in awhile.. and I am kind of stuck for what I should play. I like the idea of playing something like UR delver I saw the list floating around the internet, but I don't see it beating zombies with consistency(if you have some tech, let me know ), so I am now considering all sorts of stuff. Anyways if you could pm your lists or post them here you guys are considering I would be grateful, if you consider your list to be top secret or whatever than don't send it, it's really not a big deal I don't think states is that important and I have other places to go to get ideas .

The air was pretty open, nobody really had any reach and it's not like they can trade with my scorpions either. Time your bounce spell to timewalk them and the rest was just easy. I got double TJ-ed and still won that game. Like I said, I was 4 colors with an extremely consistent mana base, my flyers just outclassed anything on the ground namely because they lack a respectable cards to interact with me while all my spells interacted with them. You have your 3/3 centaurs sure, but I have my 6 total power air force, wanna race? Detain makes the race option very hard to commit to for decks with flyers and makes it pretty impossible for ground decks to take that line in the first place. My deck was literally mono-3 drop flyers with tempo cards with about like 3 cards above 4. Ironically, I hated the Archon in most draws except in the mirror. Edit: I wouldn't test that heavily for states until after SCG Cincy.

It doesn't matter, it's not like 1 sealed event tells us everything about RTR limited. I'm just surprised everyone had such a different experience from me.

EDIT: Again, my pool was way better than I anticipated, and there was at least one game 1 where Trostani saved me, as I was maybe 2 turns from dead. That being said, I rarely leaned on any rares - 3/3s, 1/1 fliers and an X/X ooze usually got there. I'm not claiming to be absolutely correct, just anecdotal thoughts.
