I'm calling fake because from the official website:
TERA's closed beta tests each require a unique invitation. Each invitation will indicate which closed beta test it is valid for. Submitting your email address more than once won’t increase your chances of receiving an invitation.
Your email says that you're getting unlimited access, but the website specifically states that each closed beta test requires an invitation. Is Europe different or something?

This is the ONLY MMO I've ever been excited about. (Besides Darkfall)

OHHHHH, darkfall :/ I waited for you for 6(?) years. I tried to love you. I even did love you for a little while. I became wealthy, very wealthy, but in the end, you let me down, hard. After being killed by speed hackers several times, and you doing nothing about it, I realized that you probably even couldn't. I mean, if blizzard still has problems, how can a small company like you handle it? I had to go. Cheating is something I cannot handle.

I was hyped, loved the game, hated it, loved it then hated it again, yet I'm still really hyped for Darkfall 2.0 (relaunch).
But yes at least Tera is something different than most of the mainstream MMO releases ever since WoW so that's +1 hype right there. Even if the rest of the game is terrible it's gonna be interesting with another free aim MMO.

Yeah, the speedhackers ruined it for me too. It was hard enough to play launch on an EU server but they made it almost impossible to fight them. I just leveled up skills and waited for US launch. It came. I had a blast but with no skill decay, there was nothing preventing you from being everything and wrecking face. (I wish they had a UO type system instead)
But yeah, I only like MMO's that take some kind of skill to play and not the WoW right click and watch shit happen. I actually like to feel like it's because of what I'm doing that I make a diffidence.

Like a year ago they stopped working on expansions and instead started working on revamping the entire game. They're planning to relaunch the game in 2012 (so probably 2013-2014), fresh start with hopefully more marketing and hopefully they learned something from last time and won't do the same mistakes twice. :p

It's interesting to note that Bluehole was convicted in Korean criminal court, but it was appealed and is going to be appealed the highest court in the country. Feel sorry for you TERA fans tho What I found interesting in that .pdf was the screenshot comparisons, NCsoft better have better evidence than that when they go to court because I could probably throw up 20 different games with similar concept art. :p
Not really sure how NCsoft are going to prove that stolen stuff were used though, gonna be interesting to see how it goes no matter the outcome. (Hopefully Bluehole wins though, in your face NCsoft for killing Tabula Rasa.)

Although unrelated to the thread, I'm glad this section of NCSoft has no influence over GW2
But yeah, I've been pretty hyped for TERA as well for a while. I hope this doesn't get in the way too much!

You could probably still play on European servers.
|
Well you've got to remember they have had their share of botting problems on KR. They're probably more sensitive to that than the downside of it affecting a smaller part of their playerbase. Which is not to say that's right or this will help overly much, but there it is.
|
Stuff like botting is an issue due to poor systems to keep them in check — namely a player-based reporting system to flag attention to staff, or mechanics such as open PvP (which I guess too many developers/players don't want).
Automated detection or prevention mechanisms can only do so much. That said, I think games have totally not focused enough on bot prevention mechanisms, such as making it much harder to network/memory hack target finding, or travel (not an easy or cheap thing to do, granted).
However, botting isn't even the only issue, it's mass-farming in general, which includes cheap labor, such as in China. That said, there's no good way to deal with it, although open PvP is probably the most effective I'd say.
