Ah alright, thanks for clearing that out!

Sure, they weren't as popular because scripted events tended to get screwed up more than on blizzards servers, and some drops were just grossly overpowered... But I don't see people playing Diablo for the huge community like in WoW. So my bet is there will be a fully working cracked Diablo 3 in less than a month from release.

I never used d2jsp, but I honestly doubt that anyone paid 1000 US Dollars for any item in Diablo 2. If you claim that this has happened I would like to have some proof.

IIRC someone has been able to emulate bnet 2.0 now, so it will be even easier to pirate since the major work has already been done.

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=d2jsp most expensive item
There's talk about one item being sold for 75000fg, that's about $2400. They also talk about an item from the sites own flash game that's been sold for 100000, that's about $3000.

There, some guy payed $26000 for an island in a game.

The only 1 selling fg is njaguar, so the comparison only really goes up for him i guess... cause even those itemshops everything is super cheap due to high supply, low demand (duping etc).

I think most of you are completely overestimating the auction house, Diablo is simply not WoW. In WoW raiding was the endgame and you needed awesome gear for it, but there just isn't the incentive to buy crazy gear in Diablo, it is a different game. The Arena in Diablo also isn't half as competitive as the one in WoW, Diablo is a full Coop action rpg with little amounts of actual rpg content, everything about this game is just finding awesome items. I predict that the most any item is sold for is 20 dollars, maybe 50 if it is the first extremely high quality gem on the market or something, but more is just wishful thinking. I hate playing people that are way better than me or way worse than me Diablo PvP will have matchmaking with invisible ratings. So it's still going to match someone with someone you're level. It's just not going to give you data for bragging rights.

- The donor forum is a place for those who have donated to njaguar. In the donor forums is a sub forum, where donors can make "real life" trades for forum gold. Donating to njaguar doesn't guarantee you access to the donor forums. Those who have donated at least $25 will be screened for entry by njaguar. I would never donate a single dollar to that guy, so I don't have access to the donor forum, but this makes it sound like fg does have a real value.
Anyway, some d2 items were worth far more than $50, and I'm sure that will still be the case in d3.

Wait, so the info about there being only 3 passives and 8 actives was false? Or more to the point, no skill points but you do get to choose skills? Damn, did I misunderstand that bit
|
Apart from super rare, godly items, I doubt I will bother with the cash AH. I'll take a wait-and-see approach to the gold AH...but I fear it's going to be more of the bottom denominator trading on those. Thus, I think JSP is going to remain the ideal place for fast, efficient trading - especially when trading items of utility. For JSPers, I'm talking mid-reset or later, so something that is <100fg I would consider utility level. Of course once you have an item that is unanimously considered godly (and you want to sell it) - sure the cash AH makes sense. But only for those instances.
This kind of depends on how the equipment has changed from D2 to D3. I really want school uniform R/Ws to be gone, so that truly rares rule the roost the way they did in D2 Vanilla, but that may be a pipe dream. *I still need to read-up on the updates as they are being released, so if this was already covered by Bashiok or someone else, please correct me.
@trainRiderJ - Good links, thanks.
