do u think this game is playable with the ps3 pad? my damn stick just broke while playing street fighter -_-

One of the best players I know in mvc2 can play on dreamcast pad... If that's possible, ps3 pad should be fine hahaha

I'm definitely down with the lobby idea. Though I'll probably be spending a lot of time in training mode out the gate if it's anywhere near as fun as mvc2 training mode is lol

Our TL fighter community needs to get more active! Only problem is with how spread out we are the connections (especially mine =((( ) can be bad somtimes.

I'm trying to ignore the "who can get the infinite first" thing that just got posted. Might as well go on the BW forum and say "osl is just who can click faster" with that garbage =P

There are a ton of tournaments happening at release, holy hell. I know of at least 5 that random retail stores are holding em. Free entry for most too. Gonna try to earn an extra copy for the ps3 with one of em!

GL with yours, Kosi. You'll be running one of the few where the person in charge actually knows how to run a fighter tournament, I'm afraid.

Some players use pads like Vangief and Wolfkrone and shit. It's possible but its just not popular at professional level play.

A lot of the 'Pad won't do' stuff comes from the normal Xbox 360 pad being absolutely useless for it, the one with the twisty d-pad is better now, but unless you used the analog stick (which for some reason or another that I forget isn't as good as the PS3 one for fighting games), it's just too bad to use consistently. With the PS3 pad though there's stuff pad players can do in SSF4 that stick players can't, like wolfkrone's hundred seismo faints a minute or vangief being able to 720 in situations other players wouldn't (due to being able to get it out a lot quicker due to the stick being more sensitive and kind of easier to rotate).

I think it's personal choice but bare in mind that the vast majority of advice will be geared at using a stick and i'd venture to say while they might be slightly harder to use right at the very start, are easier to use when trying to do complex stuff due to stuff like joystick gates, the noises they make and the button layouts.

ive used a stick for 3 years and it's really not that hard once you accept the fact that your grip on the stick will change from loose to firm several times during the match. when i tell people to buy a stick that's always the part they have trouble clue'ing in on.

also zlasher wolfkrone got his shit pushed in and embarassed hard by flash recently and is flopping to stick now i believe.

will it last? no.

Was this post hamburglar incident or what? The last thing about wolfkrone I heard was that he hit 30k BP yesterday and so did Latif and now they're both Grand Masters (instead of A+ or whatever they were before)

Lol I didn't know wolfkrone was gonna switch to stick, for characters like viper and zangief a pad works, but yeah i mean its sorta personal preferance.

been using an arcade stick recently, just got my hands on a MadCatz SF4 tourney edition #2 and its great for MvC. The major drawbacks is that it's not as easy to call for assists like it is on a controller as your index fingers can easily call in assists using the shoulder buttons, leaving your thumbs for everything else. Also it can be quite hard to pull off certain moves like I have a hard time doing Magneto's Air combo into Gravity Drive into Magnetic Tempest because it requires two full half circles which is much easier for me to do on a controller with my thumbs.

However, I find the biggest plus to using an arcade stick is that you can perform ridiculous combos a lot easier. Doing Magneto's infinite with air dashing is a lot easier than it is on a controller because you can use all your fingers to dash and combo rather than relying on having to twist your thumb around to air dash properly, this also applies moves like Smart Bomb or Drill Claw where you need to press buttons diagonally from each other, I find this very hard to do with just your thumbs.

So, I think if you are deciding to buy an arcade stick or keep with a controller, my bet would be to try out your characters and see what their needs are. I preemptively bought my arcade stick for MvC3 but have been using it with MvC2 on xbox live and have been loving it although I find the above cons to be holding me back a bit, I just need to get used to it more.

When it comes to a pad vs stick argument the rule of thumb is the faster and more precise the button inputs required the more benefit you get from a stick. The directionals change the rule, in Tekken for example where doing movements that are just qcb and tap a direction really fast is easier on a pad because of the time to neutral. But the freedom of movement for the right hand to hit more buttons is the real advantage. Back in the T4 days before pad was an option the kind of movement you see from pad players across the country was only available to players with extremely fast hand speed... But there are very few real examples where pad > stick. Considering the MvC3 format I don't see any possible advantage to playing on a pad besides you're comfy with it. But it's hard to say without getting your hands on the game. There might not be a real barrier where you need hand speed to make things go faster like fly/unfly in mvc2... If the game comes down to the execution barrier being in the magic series and cancels then there should be no reason to stray from where you're comfy.

Also I saw some dude post that the best dude he knows at mvc2 uses a pad... There has been 1 good run in evo the past decade on a pad. Possible, yes. Ideal, not even close.

There used to be a real argument for stick > pad because binding multiple inputs to a single press was banned from tournaments. That made it so you literally couldn't do some inputs on a pad cleanly, but that age has come and gone.

Play with whatever peripheral you are more comfy with. Just expect difficult times on both for different reasons, I have seen many a player change from stick to pad and vice versa because they have some beef with their own execution, just to run into a different wall with the new format. That being said I really think stick > pad when you apply yourself evenly, but when you have a 6 year head start on a pad it might feel fruitless for a while.

Yeah a Pad is DEFINITELY not the right choice for MvC3 just due to the chaos of the game. It's good for mashing out 720 and 540 moves but you wont relaly need that in mvc lol

Whoa was that just a lvl 1 x factor? So all you have to do is connect that command throw while x factor is activated (which looks easy if you can just guard cancel into it) and your opponent is down 1 character? o.O

Yeah people are saying that the best way to avoid that? projectile characters and play keep away....the whole time lol.

PS: Thor seems to have more than 1 combo that can do over 1 million damage, which is like more hp than 70% of the cast

Yes. My god. I am a pretty good Storm, but when I tried playing her on pad, it was impossible. You basically have to bind a shoulder button to that input if you want to play seriously.

Some people say it's hard to click 6 buttons as quickly as you can on a pad, but it just depends how you hold it. Personally on the stick, my fingers are flat so I press the top 4 buttons with my fingertips and the bottom 4 with my knuckle joints.

Holy crap that thor thing is ridiculous. You can only xfactor once per match, right? Still, damn that's sick. gonna have to sjc everything when you rush him down I suppose, stay on his ass from the air.

I guess this will be the one week out of the year this year that I wish I had a flashed 360. Damn the wait sucks!

Seems like you can call each assist once per combos, so maybe teams will focus a little more on having 3 good combo assists chars that work on point as well rather than just one amazing assist to mash on and 2 point chars.

Later in the game's life that might hold true... I would bet going into evo you are going to see 2 point character teams as the majority of top 8 just due to a lack of experience. Next year it's anyones game, but I see the people who spend more time on less characters doing better in the short term.

That and from what I was reading on SRK Thor can kara his standing and crouching C attacks within a magic series... So his throw mixup is going to be silly. I might just have to play a dude.
