I don't know about the security measures on ICC, but playchess.com is in a lot of ways like battle.net (or east): lots of lower ranked players, lots of BM, many cheaters. ICC on the other hand is the place to be if you are serious about practicing over the internet against a big pool of really strong players. A 25xx ranking on ICC is _a lot_ better than on freechess.com. I can't wait for the stream btw, looking forward to see whether you vocalize the moves or make general comments about how to deal with certain positions - also, maybe 15 minute games would be better so you don't lose too much time while commentating.

That late twenties or early thirties works just fine there. And I'm kind of in the scholastic sphere. It's not my dream job, but it's better than anything else would be so far. And you never know. Yes pretty much so. ICCup is like... ICCup everywhere I've seen it. It's just two letters more than ICC, which is not much. Internet Chess Club is just so long that we lazy people love to refer to it as ICC. ![]() cascades wrote: Is the engine scanning the reason why gms prefer to play on ICC instead of some other chess server? And it's friendly. It opened me up, which is no small feat. It has a lot of features that keeps you busy. But yes, the cheating detection does help improving it. I mean you play there IM, GM or just a standard noobie. You won't just get flamed. You play good, you get credit for it. And it matters. I think main the reason why a lot of real good players are avoiding hobby sites is the constant accusations. I don't mean better players care, because they don't. But look at it this way: if you like a community and it's a fun little place to be at but you can only play against weak players or cheaters, and if you win you still get flamed constantly, where players worse than you but far more vocal gets appraised over no limits for opinions on chess which not only untrue but so dumb it's not even funny - and on the other hand you have a community and site which is friendly and accepts you without trying to penetrate your private sphere, plus you can play even the best of the world if you can cope with it... I know which you would choose to play at. On January 11 2010 03:08 Quint wrote: I think like playchess.com, ICC too is free for every FM/IM/GM. I don't think playchess would have many cheaters. I can't talk of personal experience yet, but it's the product of ChessBase. It would be a shame if they let cheaters run amok on their sites where Kasparov plays as well. About the time loss we will see. I'm sure there'll be a lot of games when it won't be an issue even if I commentate real time. Of course if I played someone like Loeky I would probably be more silent throughout the game.

I don't think you'll become good just by watching me, but yes. It's not like you watch Brood War to get good by watching either, I think. ![]() So far everyone's keep telling me how I should rant and diss and BM while playing, which seems to underline the amusement part. ![]() A little offtopic. Is Chill really from Calgary?

Chess has a a lot of "basics" which will drastically improve your game once you begin to understand/implement them. On the other hand, expect to feel dumbfounded by alot of moves as well - I know I do. Chess is one of those games that are played at so many levels, and the gap between these are huge. I know enough to comfortably beat friends and relatives who just like to play on occasions, but I have a snowball's chance in hell when playing one of my friends who is a quite decent club player. Key to enjoying chess is, much like starcraft, to accept that there's always many people who are a great many times better than you. But if you are able to appreciate working to improve your own game and enjoy the victories this gives you at your level, the game has something to offer you the rest of your life.

Plus I have a great game I had against a GM which I plan to go through in the first few streams. After I get a little established we could also run through some of your games, too - to make it a little more personal and all. I'll also try to get a few people I know to play longer games, maybe a WIM or some other titled players I got to know along last year. I don't know how it'll go in the long run, but I think for the first month it should be worthwhile. And I'm pretty sure people would have fun watching me. After all these years I have a few stories, as an icing. It should be fine. And if I run out of stories or get too repetitive we'll just think up something, won't we? As you see I have some of plans and even though I've always felt that I don't know enough of chess to properly give lectures to anyone - somehow when I start talking about it I can talk a hole in the wall... ![]() I really hope the provider comes over today and I'll get the cable. After that I'm just gonna clean install my pc because I have too much crap on it and I'm good to go. Let's cross fingers.

A simultan is when one player plays versus many at once. The giver is usually always white on all boards. In real life practice the challengers are lined up and have enough time to think until the simul giver makes a round through them. On ICC it's mostly just several long time control games played at once. Since ICC has a trial period when we have enough interested players we could play it there, since you wouldn't need to pay for it. Or I might get them to give free accounts for the time of one simul as long as it's not to often. That's a slight chance and couldn't be more often than say... every half year or so, but so far I found the admins very-very nice there and they are appreciating high rated players doing events.

My new provider is coming over today. I'll be able to sort out my PC in the afternoon so all should be set by thursday. I have two questions till then. First. Should I wait for ChessMax's (IM) reply and try launching the first ever cast with him as a guest, analysing our simultan game together or should I start off with something on my own asap? Second. Do you know of any messenger programs that have an msn plug-in and that doesn't show email addresses. It only matters for one sole person in my contact list. ![]() Hell it's about time.

As for an IM that doesn't reveal the emails, you're out of luck there, I don't think any that I know of do that.

I mean I can't really expect anyone to watch if I'm not telling them when I'm showing. ![]() I think most suitable to my working habits would be sometimes between: 11 am - 5 pm western 2 pm - 8 pm eastern 7 pm - 1 am GMT 8 pm - 2 am central european 4 am - 10 am korean These are give or take and according to my current schedule. Could probably differ over the weekends. And of course I will play at random times outside of those, too - maybe not always commenting that extensively or just playing music as a background sound, or just fooling around. For scheduled times I plan to make it worthwhile even for those who're only in for the comments and not much for the sole watching. I'm thinking about streaming some games other than chess when I'm actually playing, too. I know all the positive feedback Chill got was due to his popularity, but it could still be fun. ![]() PS: I intend to make a test stream today if I can get it all working and if everything's fine I'll set up a schedule for the first 'official' stream. I just don't want to make it like 'okay I'm streaming in two hours'. ![]()

![]() We'll see. Edit: In my profile settings I see something like Show "Current Song" messages - but I see no option to set something like a Current Song. What's up with that? Edit2: Oh I found it. Is anyone using at it all? I haven't seen it being used before.
