i took a break from falco for a few weeks to play falcon/peach/fox vs my friends (because i felt blocked in my progress) and now im at this point where i feel much more confident in my general play but falco specific i think im playing worse as im dropping combos i would have kept going before ive slowed down and stopped mindlessly lasering, doing dair oos and dair approaching tho

I've been grinding hard for the past few months and I've been really content with my progress. Got 4th at a small local (my best placing yet) but still on average going 2 wins and 2 losses per tourney. Not at the breakout where I can place top 8 but I'm getting there. In September I attended a tournament every weekend and played with other people other than scrubby housemates and I saw the most improvement during this time. Lately I've been very busy with work so I can't play others unless it's a weekend. What I fixed was playing more consciously. No laser laser dair/nair or mindless stuff. With this, my technical execution is also at the level where I'm not flubbing as much. Basically landing all my L-cancels (not 100% but very close) with different aerial timings, moving well around map, different kinds of advanced tech (invincible ledgedash, shortens, double shines, shine oos, etc) and etc. In terms of what to improve, I need to work on my defensive options specifically crispier Shine OoS and movement can always get better. Spacing too is something I'm just starting to really get the hang of as well. My friend who is significantly better than me (he's a very very very good falcon player) says that I have horrible move/option coverage at times. How does one improve this? For example, after I'm harassing him with lasers, I tend to go for an aggressive option as opposed to baiting out a move from him and then denying that with an up tilt or a well spaced aerial.

You should stick to Falco only in my honest opinion..I'm a Falco main as well and I felt that the times I played the worst was when I put in more hours on other characters than the bird. I have been having similar issues in neutral vs Peach/Fox/Falcon and I have just been focused on trying to make my neutral harder to punish, when i do early nairs/dairs I either shield stop fade away or heavily over shot depend on stage position. I have been using laser -> f-tilt to force my opponent/condition to apply risk in committing while its not 100% safe on shield it at least forces their punish game to be consistent. Run up shield into shine OOS is such a strong option and really forces the Falcon to commit to a late fair to be safe which in the end is what you want your opponent to do.

Other important concepts are risk/reward, maximizing punishes, knowing answers for countless situations
