Hey I'm not great either, but if you start somewhere and give yourself more reason to improve, I think that will make you a lot better.
I mentioned this a long time back I think, I think we should cover some touhou songs and maybe even arranges later on. We could have anyone on TL (basically this thread) who plays an instrument participate, maybe it won't be the same 3 or 4 people doing every cover, may be there could be variation depending on the song and availability or difficulty of the song, etc. And we could upload youtube vids and be known as... TeamLiquid Touhou Discussion Thread Circle or TLTDTC (lol jk).
But I think it would be fun.

Holy fucknuggets, minami's C80 album is ridiculously good. I literally almost had to change my pants. Partly because I decided to listen to the whole album while my bowels were crying for relief, but that's beside the point. Reflection of a Drive is increeeeedible.

Yes... Being a bad musician is no excuse ^^ But damn, making covers seem hard.

Can't be that bad, as long as instrumentation is simple.
Drummer is obvious, does whatever is fitting.
Then keyboard and guitar, possibly bass. Bass is easy to fit in. Keyboard and guitar would share melody/harmony. To make it really simple, 1 plays the melody, 1 plays background (chords and stuff). If there are a lot of important parts (like most of them), can split them up between bass guitar keyboard, and 1 of them stays mainly on the main melody.
But if you meant making a complete professional arrange, yea that's different :D
Playing in a "band" is much much easier than solo xD. For recording, I mean.

I'll completely trust you on this one haha. I have never played in a band, only grinding techniques by myself as I'm a fan of metal music. The problem as I see it is that you need to be able to listen to the song and hear what notes are played. I have tried this but failed at the easiest songs ^^; And yeah... Professional arranges kind of requires people who are alrady making music I guess. Being used to recording, skilled with their instrument, etc.

And know music theory and stuff so that they can actually make good versions ^-^:
Anyway when I mean it's a lot easier, it's cus you know, for example if you're playing piano, you're playing a lot of different parts at once, but when you play in a "band" you split it up more so it should be a lot easier for each person individually.
Now it seems you're talking about... either transcribing or playing by ear when you say "listen to the song and hear what notes are played"?
Both are hard, but playing by ear is just beastly. Unless they were born with that ability (perfect pitch), i'm so envious of those people.
As for transcribing, there's a lot of people who upload MIDIs of the touhou songs, like in videos, so you can just transcribe the part you want from there and adjust it.

Ooh I see, then you dont have to know too much music theory I think you can practice relative pitch if you like, not saying it'd be easy but it's as good as perfect pitch.

Yeah I've been trying to work on that. I wish I was born (or developed it while i was an infant, whatever you call it) with it, would have helped motivate me to practice piano =/ lol
Though I have heard arguments for why relative pitch can be better than perfect pitch sometimes.
Beautiful arrange of Crimson Belvedere - Eastern Dream Flute/Piano
+ Show Spoiler +
2 more epic piano arranges by the God, Aojiru
Dark Side of Fate + Show Spoiler +
Locked Girl - The Girl's Secret + Show Spoiler +
Aojiru's piano arranges (i believe he plays them himself) are simply amazing. I wonder if he performs at all, or just records. His arranges are grand and... concert-hall-ish. And often they don't even use the original song that much, only for the melody, making the rest of it up, but still making it fit to the spirit of the original. I think you can call that a true arrange
He also arranges orchestral songs, which sound real. I wonder if they are. If they aren't, perhaps his piano arranges aren't real, or at least they are played by someone else [in TAM Circle] while he just writes them. He also does his own touhou art (computer). I wonder how much money this guy makes per year, or if this is just stuff he does on the side of a main job. Sounds like a dream career.
I forget but doesn't JSH do bass?
C'mon guys let's get something started :D

Well if Aeres doesn't want to play, or at least not all of them, maybe you can do it. And/or violin.
We could do violin piano flute, as well, maybe acoustic guitar. And for some songs we could do piano (keyboard or whatever, if sound effects wante), electric guitar, drums, bass if anyone plays xD.
Since it would just be each of us playing, then combined, like those epic vids on youtube, we could each cover more than 1 instrument.
What you say? Could be fun ^_^

Sure! You don't have to be great to get a lot of views on youtube. Especially since many [piano] videos of touhou songs are sped up (sigh). Most of the ones that are played really well are sped up. Cus otherwise they wouldn't be amazing kekek.
Got to keep taking new steps for self improvement. I can see great things :D Never know where you'll get xD

Can you speak/sing japanese? As long as people don't know what you're saying, it should be good. Kekekek. Or you can make up engrish. I'm not such a big fan of vocals. But the more the merrier.

So there is a reason why music theory is taught... Well that took a lot of time to figure out.
This looks interesting.

Hell yes I want vocals ^^
So, say if I suck so much I can't play a song, is it possible for me to play it in parts and copy paste stuff or would it ruin the sound?

Totally kickass arrangement of Shanghai Teahouse ~ Chinese Tea, by White Elephant.
+ Show Spoiler + EDIT: WTF?! Dark PHOENiX released an album at Reitaisai 8 and I didn't know about it?!? Downloading the shit out of this one; I'll prolly do a review of it later on.
