I was going to reply to Zrana's post but once i PROPERLY READ it i found out he didn't even bother reading the article in full.

TL does need more final edits, the last one that was made was (T)BaBy's one then suddenly it all dried up =(

I am saying that there are 300 current pros and semi-pros that have the potential to come in and dominate SC2 at any moment, with a latency of a few months from the day they switch. Among this group there are a notable few that CRUSH any other players in terms of raw talent and/or work ethic and/or ability to learn. This knowledge cheapens any form of competition I see right now, no matter how much I try to enjoy the games.

this part does not make any sense whatsoever. i can just say there are thousands of people in the world that has the POTENTIAL to crush anyone in broodwar, and that just cheapens any form of competition i see.

The difference being that the BW pros are already identified, and may have a reason to switch as some point. We can see them use their skills in a related environment.

If I was writing this article I think I'd mention that the tip top bw pros playing SC2 would win tournaments but probably wouldn't quite hold onto a 75% winrate. SC2 is just a more fragile game and doesn't reward an advantage in extreme mechanical precision to the same extent.

"Was (T)ThorZaIN vs (P)oGsMC awesome? Fuck yeah! I loved watching those two play, the games were fantastic. But isn't high school football in Friday Night Lights really exciting too"

rofl so hilarious and well written, agree 100%, as a former BW spectator this article states exactly what I want to tell all the new SC2 fans.

Very well written, its almost foolish to not agree with your points. It makes perfect sense too, as why SlayerS is doing so superb in the GSTL.

My mind is just blown man, very good article and eye opening stuff. I was discussing this with a bunch of french pros and they were saying the same exact thing, explaining that it would take Flash or Jaedong a couple of weeks at the very very most to just destroy most players, if not all.

I am no fanboy, I wasn't going to just agree because they were who they were, but now that I have a comparison between the current sc2 top and their career stats from BW compared to the current ultragosu kids, I don't think I can find anything to contradict anything you just said.

Really fun read, I was definitely thinking "wtffff" when you skipped July, Nada, and Boxer for a while.

The one thing I'd disagree with is the idea in the article that only A team bw players in 2010 can be looked at as universally good players. If a player can become the best in the world at something in 2006, I see no reason why they can't do it again in 2011.

July and Nada have both proven that they can come back and win in modern bw, and have strong success many years apart. I would think sc2 just gives players like that more reason to put in the long, stressful practice hours again.

I feel like scfoU/Nestea game 5 was the closest we've gotten to BW levels of awesome gameplay.

That's just my opinion though. Others may feel free to correct me.

Although OP warns in the beginning that his intention was otherwise, this does give me much hope for the future of SC2 when ultra-insane-gosus bust onto the scene and show us how the game is meant to be played.

So Basically you're saying that if the best RTS players in the world started playing SC2 fiull time they would be pretty good?

Go Figure.

I think he's also saying the relative skill level of everyone right now is just not very high compared to where it will be, and that people need to work harder than they are right now in order to keep up.

SC2 is a lot of fun to watch for me (more fun than BW), but it's also frustrating to see the best of the best making mistakes, and failing to play a flawless game. A BW analogy would be EVER OSL 2008 finals between July and Best. You know Best has below average PvZ and while July played well, you saw a lot of mistakes that Jaedong wouldn't have made.

Great read. People are delusional if they think any half-decent A-teamer wouldn't dominate the scene within a few months.

How many fucking times does it have to be said, nada/july would get rocked by flash 9/10 times in 2010.

Yeah, but would you believe in a BO3 that they could beat flash ever ever ever ever?

(yeah i know you were kidding)

Great writeup, and I agree with a LOT of it.

Excellent. Hotbid's point about work ethic and focus reminds me of professional golf where Tiger Woods is the best not because of his physical abilities or even his huge talent, but moreso because of his ridiculous work ethic and mental focus. Mickelson is often touted as being a better raw talent but his profession was never always his #1 priority.

This has always been an interesting issue to me, the ratio between raw talent:work is very different among even the cream of the crop and its surprising to see how career arcs play out from it.

Then you run into dudes like Flash who have incredible amounts of both talent and ability to focus on the work and it gets scary.
