Think so too. He has a very hard bracket imo. If he manages a deep run with such a bracket that will definitely be an impressive feat.

So the highest seed Neeb can get in Korea is like 5 or 6 I think (haven’t actually calculated it out) and he’s currently 3rd seed in wcs. I don’t think there’s any way he can take up a Korean spot. He would have to win gsl and gsl super tournament and bomb out in wcs. So Zest is pretty much safe even if Neeb wins gsl.

If Neeb wins Code S and supertournament as well, he ends up with 5500 points, Which gives him rank 7 korea, or rank 6 if TY fails to qualify for supertournament as well (very unlikely).

So he'd have to drop down to rank 8 in WCS circuit to steal a korean spot in that. Possible but extremely unlikely.

Our boy DID that <3

Now onto the rematch. It's either gonna be the best SC2 we've ever seen from Zest or it's gonna be a recreation of the Finals last time TT

Wow he beat Stats. Honestly wasn’t very confident he could do it. Outside of that one homestory cup last year I don’t remember Zest ever beating Stats in a bo5 offline. Also he’s now locked for Blizzcon

Not confident he'll beat Maru, but I'm still excited to see it. Bo7, let's see what he's learned.

Also think he's much better right now than he was last season.

To be fair, anyone is in a good spot to win the championship if they could win against Maru

If he can win this GSL or Blizzcon he will cement himself as the best Protoss in SC2 history.

You could make a case for others as well based on results

Only if you value Blizzcon above everything else, which I don't. sOs hasn't won a single Korean tournament. Zest holds the record for most GSLs, most Protoss tournament wins (last I checked), longest streak of dominance of any Protoss (2014), arguably the highest peak of any Protoss in 2014 (could argue Rain?) and he's innovated the metagame more than anyone else since he broke out.

There's really not much of a case for anyone else. What else even is there? Consistency? Well considering his one off year was 2017 and he won a tournament even then, that's hard to argue. Especially because everyone else contending either has the same issue or others.

sOs is horribly inconsistent and frankly poor all year, then wins a big tournament, also hasn't won in Korea. Stats was not really a championship caliber player until 2016 so really hasn't been as consistent at this level for as long. Rain retired way too early and with too few results. MC's results aren't as good as Zest's and largely came at a time when you could still 4gate on horrible maps. herO doesn't have the results or consistency. Who else is there?

Zest has them all beat in almost every aspect. The only case you could make is sOs, and peak/consistency/streak of dominance/Korean success all heavily weigh against him.

Zest is my favourite player so I am obviously biasd.
I feel like Zest is the one who played the highest level of protoss when he peaked and he has some solid results as well.
$o$ obviously have some big titles to his name but I just don't think he looked as impressive as Zest.
Stats is imo the best protoss in lotv but overall at this point in time I'd say Zest resume is more impressive if you take into account hots.

TLDR I don't think it is obvious but it is very arguable imo.
Kt Rolster Zest and TY myboys freaking teamkills :'(

One can make a case for Stats and while it is true that he was not a championship caliber player until 2016 i am not quite sure why that is super relevant tbh. Let's just look at it this way:

results in starleagues:

Stats: four times ro8, four times ro4, two times 2nd, two times 1st
Zest: six times ro8, two times ro4 (2nd one this season) , one time 2nd, two times 1st

Stats arguably leads in starleague results though zest can obviously still theoretically win this season of code s.

results at weekenders:

stats: no ro8, five times ro4, three times 2nd, one 1st (two if we wanna count cross finals)
zest: four times ro8, one ro4, two times 2nd, four times 1st

notice that i simply put it all under "weekenders" and didn't really seperate hsc from blizzcon for example which helps zest a bit. Still, Zest is ahead here

Proleague stats:

Stats: 94–51 (64.83%)
Zest: 101–65 (60.84%)

One could maybe look at playoff stats and ace match scores to give it a little more meat, but i am too lazy for that now and these stats still show the general direction. Both around the same with stats being slightly better though.

Now you obviously include things i wouldn't like "metagame innovation" , we always disagree on these things so i won't repeat my old arguments. Purely looking at the results it is somewhat close, though i personally would probably give zest the slight edge because i think he hit his peak during the peak of sc2 while stats got his biggest results in the phase we are in right now which is imo slightly below the competitive lvl of maybe four to three years ago.

Anyway, i think one could make a case for stats and maybe others as well (like rain or sOs).

sOs is not close in my opinion. I love his play but while he’s more fun to watch and flashy, that doesn’t make him the better player. Nor does the money he’s won. In the end it seems he has more reputation than results.

Stats on the other hand is close in results as Viper showed. Let’s see how both finish the year.
