There's no other place to do it on TL. Sorry, but I'm going to continue posting what I think about Stephano here. Please don't. Azarkon please go somewhere else with all the unsubstantiated whining I don't think you understand what whining is. Saying that I think Stephano's play has declined is very different from whining about his play. It's an observation. I don't make excuses for Stephano when he loses. I think about causes. I thought the same as you entering this tournament seeing his last performances, so I don't understand why some people are flaming you like they are. Being a fan of a player means aknowledging when they are not playing to their usual standard. But that series against MC shows things I would never imagine Stephano doing. That muta switch was perfect, he was incredibly conservative with his broodlords, I mean he is known for his good placement in fights but that was even better than his usual self. The drop play failed but it was smart considering MC was thinking he would try to kill the third as usual. He mixed up the order and rate at wich he was getting upgrades. All this coupled with his capacity to net get influenced and thrown off by losses and crazy game sense makes him much scarier than before, now protosses will have a harder time metagaming him. It was also pleasing in a way seeing how happy he was when he won the series and the emotion he showed when putting his head in his hands when he won his 3rd win in the series and realized he was just one game away to win it. Realizing he was performing a bit under his standard before this tournament and now winning his series against Hero who beat DRG a week ago in a bo5 and bo7 and against MC who is the best PvZ at the moment imo makes those wins even more sastifying as a fan.

Even lack of practice mistakes are not big enough for him to lose vs mc/hero. The story is quite different for ZvT.

Saying that I think Stephano's play has declined is very different from whining about his play. It's an observation. I don't make excuses for Stephano when he loses. I think about causes. I know generalization is bad, but you sound so American. Lets use IdrA as an example. Constantly doing deep, wise-sounding analysis over gameplay with no real results/solid footing to back his statements up. When you ask players like Stephano, or even Flash for that matter, they're really straightforward and don't hide behind their transparent knowledge - they just play and learn the game. For example, when Flash was asked about the balance of the game, his answer went as follows: "Zerg is strongest, Protoss is second and Terran is weakest." I imagine Idra would've had a long, thought out analytical answer, but he's not even in the position to make these statements. Do you see what I'm saying? Your analysis is inaccurate, as are your predictions. You make yourself sound smart, when you're actually not in the position to say these things. I know it sounds like a pre-adolescent thing to say, but in this case, it stands true: show me your results before criticizing others, especially players like Stephano. If our predictions about players were accurate every single time, we wouldn't need to watch the games. For that matter, we wouldn't need to play the games, because we'd know the results before playing. A lot of the fun in spectating professional eSports comes from betting and predicting. That's why TL has liquidbet and GG.net has tangos. Having a rankings in your head about where players stand, beyond what TL rankings give them, is what allows people to enjoy these things. My analysis wasn't that off the mark. I was wrong about him not preparing for this tournament and thus being off form, but I was not wrong about his weaknesses: he needed to stop going 200 roach max because it made him too predictable and easy to meta-game against, he needed to utilize other styles and to practice them, and he had to work on his mechanics, which had declined in the last two tournaments. He managed to beat HerO and MC by overcoming a lot of those weaknesses - by using speedling infestor and mutas, by mind gaming them into thinking he's going his usual style and taking advantage of their blind counters, by exploiting new builds and styles, and by raising his mechanics back to the level that they were in earlier this year. HerO and MC, after losing their first games, had to resort to all-inning against him because their normal plays were not working and they didn't know what he was going to do, and that put the series in his favor because all he needed to do was defend. These games were exciting because they were not easy to call, but I stand by the idea that had Stephano played the way he did vs. SaSe and Mana, vs. MC and HerO, they were going to smash him. The one caveat to this is that MC and HerO did not resort to 10 minute immortal two base all-ins vs. Stephano, though HerO tried the last game but failed to hit his FFs and missed the timing. I still don't know how well Stephano is able to beat that style when it is executed flawlessly, but I do know they're a lot easier to hold with zergling builds than with roaches. Wrapping it up with today's games, Alicia is not going to make the mistake of misreading Stephano, and he's going to have had HerO and MC's help in preparing counter builds on each map. Don't celebrate before the cake is done, and don't underestimate Alicia because that's been one of Stephano's psychological weaknesses in past tournaments - winning against people who were favorites against him, and then losing to people he was favorite against.

Alicia is tough but a longer series (Bo7) should minimise the chances of an upset loss, such as the Mana matches at DHS.
