I actually just listened to IGAB and I don't know what to say lol. I actually don't really hate it or anything. There's nothing particularly to like but I thought I would be loathing it and stuff....but I wasn't @_@ it does sound like they were trying to go for the kpop equivalent of a rock opera and failed miserably, but I can't find any specific thing (besides how it was sort of a mess as a whole) to hate on. The only part I remember was when they said "let's bring it back up to 140", which was obviously referring to the speed (140 bpm) and then they go back to the not-chorus-but-maint-theme-thing. lol

the more and more I listen to kpop, the more I see how Objectified these girls are. Basically feeding on the stereotype of the lonely nerd who somehow accepts these shallow appearances, catchy songs with no real meaning just so that they can fulfill a personal fantasy. I can definitely see how koreans can feel like this industry misrepresents who they are as a people, since it is the most plastic, and manufactured industry in the world. Ultimately I believe the blame lies on the people who idolize and support cute girls/catchy beats over the manufacturers themselves. There is nothing wrong with liking cute girls and catchy beats, but since it is easier to manufacture than raw talent, the market is flooded by these clones and people with actual talent will be drowned out

^People with actual talent aren't drowned out, they're just not training to become kpop idols. There are plenty of popular Korean artists that do make it onto music charts, it's just that those artists are going to have a harder time gaining foreign fans. With kpop it's easier for the reasons frequently mentioned- hot girls and lowest-common-denominator catchy music, not to mention that they have large labels that have both the resources and incentive to push their product beyond a Korean speaking audience.. Music with talent behind it and no flashy outfits and dance isn't going to appeal as much to people who don't understand the music. It's another example of the fact that our views are skewed by being a mostly non-Korean community. Of course the visual shit will be the most popular.

It's the same thing that goes on here. Justin Bieber may get the most mainstream and foreign recognition but that doesn't mean that I like his music more than Frank Ocean's.

They may not be doing the same style that you loved them for but that does not mean that the music they have been putting out has been bad. IGAB is a a nice pop hip hop centric mash-up. Is it all over the place? Yes, but that shouldn't be a reason a song is hated on. I personally love the song. Played it over 20 times at least.

I'm not going to speak for everyone who didn't like recent releases but my complaints weren't with concept changes (my favorite group is T-ara, hating concept changes wouldn't make sense for me) it's that recent releases are terrible. Do sexy/ratchet/hood whatever, fine, but do it well. This isn't doing it well. You making assertions that it's "good" and "nice" doesn't change that for me. And yes it comes to differing opinions (no need for us to circle around to that conversation again) I'm just saying your post doesn't really address my criticism or from what I can tell most other's criticisms of SNSD's most recent releases.

That's not entirely true, there are quite a few talented artists/groups in kpop that have risen to the top. Ailee, KWill, DBSK, and Shinee come to mind (I'm sure there are many others). The most talented individuals in a lot of groups are often recognized as such and given opportunities to do solo activities. Yes, you do have many untalented artists/groups that become popular, but that's always going to be the case in any genre of popular music you choose. Kpop isn't unique in this regard.

If you're gonna talk about T-ara it was pretty much all management. Absolute first is good because they took time on it- group didn't debut so CCM wasn't all "NEW MINI EVERY 2 MONTHS" mode. Even if they were bullies any semi-competent PR firm woulda been able to smooth over that shit instead of actually making it into a bigger deal like CCM did.

Imagine if you never heard of SNSD, and just heard the song IGAB(no video). Treat the music separate from the pretty faces for a second to judge its quality. IGAB is not a single song and contains no flow or transition from one part to the other(This is kind of a big deal since kpop is based around catchy tunes and flow). I don't understand korean so I can't judge them on the meaning or lyrics ( I got a boy is about as much as I got). Personally, I thought the song made no sense and left me confused. All I'm sayin is to pretend you heard it before you fell in love with the pretty faces of SNSD, to judge its music separate from the dance/choreography.

So D-unit released a new track, apart from their terrible choice of tracks to promote (company's fault really), cringe-worthy group name and album name; I can say with confidence that they are one of the more decent rookies that debuted in 2012.
