To ensure this thread won't be closed, you must adhere to several a number of simple rules; - Please use spoilers when quoting a post with pictures and/or videos.
- When posting large quantities of media (pictures or videos), please begin spoilering after the first piece. Grouping related videos in the same spoilers & labeling is recommended.
- No reposting of old material unless justified
- Posting any material with little or no relevent discussion accompanying it
- No passion-induced flaming of each other because 'x said y sucked' etc.
- Keep the expression hate of music individuals/groups to a minimal level
- No 'pagetopping' in any form whatsoever, as it constitutes spam equal to posts similar to 'first'.
- No vulgar fan fics or wet dream stories. It is creepy, weird, and it dehumanizes the people who you are here to celebrate/discuss.
- Normal posting standards that you find throughout the rest of the site still apply and will be enforced more strictly from here forward (2012/03/11)
Due to the poor nature of this thread in the past, temporary two-day bans will occur more than often if people slip up. |

She's so young there.. I remember watching her cuts from that movie on YouTube. When she was taking those Soju shots, omg. Then some guy started to yell at her mom and she got up and ate the glass, yes, ate the soju glass, blood from her mouth... she's a total boss.

Anyone notice the rather huge hiphop influence on kpop? It seems the extremely popular kpop singles are always the one with the most hiphop influences.
Not that this is in unexpected, because the line between pop and hiphop is actually thin. Personally I love it, and I just wanted to give hiphop some credit. I was watching The Boys when I was noticing a lot of similarties (the long part at 3:40 "I wanna dance right now", the beat for the whole song, the lyrics, the dancing), though it's a phenoma I've been observing for a long time (i'm not a kpop fantic, but every hyuna PV I've seen qualfiies and also the wondergirls have a dedicated rapper girl).

Every group has a designated rapper. Usually the one that can't sing.

It's not a hip hop influence specifically, just that kpop tends to be highly imitative of western chart-toppers for a variety of reasons, and currently even western pop songs have a lot of hip hop influences.

"line between pop and hiphop is actually thin" I get the feeling you don't understand either of these genres.

Hiphop has been considered pop music for over 20 years. When groups like NWA were going multi platinum with content like killing hookers and cops back in 88, it's no longer considered underground when people are rapping about how they have hard time sitting in their mansion writing a new #1.

And the girls who sing likely can't rap without practice. Talentless girls don't get parts in the songs, so the existence of them there implies talent. The point is that most kpop groups have major hiphop influence, so this is good supporting evidence. Additionally the beautiful rapper girls don't have to be there, but they are. Why? I don't know, but it's pretty much one of the definitive aspects of modern kpop/khiphop, and it's awesome. They're intentionally added in whether you like it or not, so don't disregard them as "backups" out of ignorance. That's disrepectful to kpop, and the groups.
And none of this even touches on the major influences in the way they dance, and the way they often sing (R&B style).

Hiphop has always been electronic music with vocals. Pop has been electronic music with vocals for the last 40 years. The line has always been very thin like it or not. The thing about kpop though is that a lot of popular singles tend to be more on the hiphop side in the past 5 years or so (also in line when it started getting popular globally). This is something that I really enjoy personally.

K-pop has more than it's fair share of terrible rap breaks.

It's very awesome. S. Korea thinks so, and k-pop stars think so. And also though hiphop can have rap (just as any genre can), it isn't defined as rap.

A disgrace to Kpop, where visuals are as important if not more important than actual musical talent? Are you sure you're in the right genre? You seem to take a joke about rappers in idol groups quite seriously.
