To ensure this thread won't be closed, you must adhere to several a number of simple rules;
  • Please use spoilers when quoting a post with pictures and/or videos.
  • When posting large quantities of media (pictures or videos), please begin spoilering after the first piece. Grouping related videos in the same spoilers & labeling is recommended.
  • No reposting of old material unless justified
  • Posting any material with little or no relevent discussion accompanying it
  • No passion-induced flaming of each other because 'x said y sucked' etc.
  • Keep the expression hate of music individuals/groups to a minimal level
  • No 'pagetopping' in any form whatsoever, as it constitutes spam equal to posts similar to 'first'.
  • No vulgar fan fics or wet dream stories. It is creepy, weird, and it dehumanizes the people who you are here to celebrate/discuss.
  • Normal posting standards that you find throughout the rest of the site still apply and will be enforced more strictly from here forward (2012/03/11)

Due to the poor nature of this thread in the past, temporary two-day bans will occur more than often if people slip up.

Minzy is great, her vocals are almost as good as Bom's and her dancing is best in the group.
I love Bom's solo songs, I wish she would sing them live more -.- zz

For those other 2NE1 fans (yes, I'm one):

I've been a fan of this group since they came out simply because they brought something very different to the Kpop scene from what was (and has) been being put out by everyone else, and because of the YG flair that all of their artists have. While they're certainly not going to win any contests involving physical appearance (although I know some of us think they're not quite as unattractive as this thread generally makes them out to be), I like the fact that each member has a unique look or feel to them.

A lot of people don't seem to like their songs, but I've liked most of them. I feel like they're music is more Western-styled, but I'm no expert. I feel like their music is more like what you'd hear in the US, and that it's generally fun music that I could imagine dancing to at a club. Fire started this trend, and remains probably my favorite song of theirs. I'll admit that I'm The Best didn't appeal to me right away, but the beat grew on me and I find myself bobbing my head to it when it comes on in the car.

I like that you can easily identify and distinguish the members in each of their songs. Obviously, it's a lot easier to do so in a smaller group (as opposed to a larger one like SNSD), but I really feel that each member has a very distinct sound. Their voices all stand out, even amongst other Kpop idols, who I feel all seem to strive for the same type of sound. I'm not going to pretend that 2NE1 are the best singers talent or technique-wise, but somehow their sound appeals to me and it's nothing something I hear in other Kpop groups.

2NE1tv has been fun to watch, and it's revealed the group to have some very interesting personalities. SNSD had a similar show (SNSD Goes To School or something?), and it's how I grew to like that group as well. I think it's entertaining, and great for fans, to get to know the group members off the stage, and it serves to just further distinguish the members from each other. I feel like this past season of 2NE1tv had way too much Dara on it, and that she tended to get too emo at times, but it was still entertaining enough. It's always cool to catch glimpses of the rest of the YG Family as well since they're generally quite reclusive.

Lastly, I think that of all the Kpop groups, they're the most capable of succeeding in the US or Western market. As I said above, I think their music is just more of a Western style and sounds like music I hear on the radio here. CL, Bom and Dara all have good English from living outside of Korea for significant periods of time, and Minzy has surprisingly good English for someone who's lived in Korea all her life (as you can hear when she performs songs like Take A Bow). YG also seems the most Western-friendly of all the major Korean music companies, and they have relationships with people like the Black Eyed Peas, Ludacris, Jeremy Scott, Diplo, etc. I remember Mobb Deep performing on a Jinusean track back in the day, so it's nothing new for them. I could see them releasing an English album and performing in English without having a significant accent (compare the English versions of Can't Nobody and The Boys and the difference is noticeable), and they'd be able to handle interviews well.

Some performances I liked:

I don't get this whole "Sones should just ignore trolls, if they did, nothing would go wrong, so this is all the sones' fault". If there were no people trolling then there wouldn't be jack shit anywhere. What's the point of blaming the sones for their reactions instead of looking more at the people who are irking the sones in the first place?

Because from my perspective its the easiest way to stop the argument. All other fans already ignore the trolls for the most part. 2NE1 gets shit on all the time in this thread, but you don't see anywhere near the level of defensive posts from their fans.

And for me personally, it does get annoying to see the same blind devotion to a group regardless of the songs they put out.

I didn't get to weigh in when their album came out and this is just my opinion but their recent songs just haven't been anywhere near the quality of their previous songs. Its not that I don't understand difference of opinions, I know there are people who dislike "Oh" and "Mr. Taxi" (which I personally like) and there are people who like "Great Escape" and "Bad Girl" (which I didn't like), but I find it a bit baffling when somebody says they like every single song that SNSD puts out. I realize it could be their honest opinion, but its just really really really hard for me to believe that people can post and praise these songs when they have songs like "Gee" and "Genie" to compare to.

What it breaks down to is, when I compare new songs to the field of kpop songs out there, I think that some songs don't deserve the praise they get, while others are under-appreciated, and SONEs are the biggest contibuting factor to that from what I see, and they are also the ones taking the majority of the trollbait.

I can just tell all the people in this thread to ignore the SONEs' reactions, doesn't really solve the problem at all does it? I am pretty damn into SNSD, without them I wouldn't even be here, but what transpired over the past few pages have just been awful, SNSD related or not (but in the case of this thread I guess SONEs can do no right). Guess my point is that if no one troll-baited, there would be no bait to be taken. BUT I think we can all just put that ugly mess behind us and move on to the usual KMD stuff that happens in this thread.

Doesn't work this way. The SONE reaction is what is rewarding to hate inciting. Ever tried irritating the monkey behind the cage? Nobody's gonna stop if u see the monkey go "apeshit", its jus too entertaining. On the other hand, if the monkey dun respond, the perpetuators will stop as there is nothing rewarding their actions.
This is jus as example, not implying SONEs are monkeys

Entertaining or not, it needs to stop or at least be toned down significantly. Following your example, there's no excuse for inciting monkeys behind a cage, no matter how entertaining their reactions may be, and the inciters will be responsible for the mess made by the monkeys due to their inciting them.

Go ahead and continue to bait and troll whoever you want if it amuses you, just don't be surprised if your ability to post on these forums is compromised as a result.

There's an issue of permanence here. Following the example, the monkey in the cage is permanent in the zoo whereas the visitors are not. In other words, intentionally or otherwise, visitors to this thread will tread on the monkey's long tail. It would be draconic to ban everyone who does that and each ban will not remove its accompanying shit storm as people take up sides. As such, it would make more sense to direct the attention to the monkey. If it doesnt perform, nobody will stay and watch.

Big Bang still has the best chance to make it in the US, just based on overall look, sound, star appeal. 2ne1 is fine, teddy still puts out quite a few good songs with each release, but it's not as explosive as it used to be(he needs to smoke more weed like before). As for snsd, there are so many of them. Groups like this are comparable to the pussycat dolls, just from sheer size, so it will be quite hard, especially with a song like The Boys as their debut single. Not getting my hopes up at all and expecting them to flop, it's just not the right time or song.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFNXxZfh3bA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWM0BwSX_kA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hj8dMUCv1Lc
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZOaoUpZeF4

They are definitely different from most groups.

I kind of had high hopes for 2NE1 but they disappointed me quite a bit with the last album that was heavily autotuned. Most of their songs this year they've relased are quite nice to listen to, well except for I Am The Best it's as horrible as the The Boys.

My biggest issue with 2NE1 is that I still can't figure out what Dara is doing there. She's supposed to be the face of the group, but she's 27 years old and I don't really find her that attractive.

And as you noticed everyone else they spoiler videos/images after the first one so people won't have to scroll through a ton of videos/images. Just makes it easier for people that don't want SNSD/2NE1/Rainbow/Kara content, they'll just have to suffer through 1 picture.

Sorry, but I don't agree. This thread is for people to discuss their favorite Korean music artists and share content about them. It is not to provide passerbys with a target to flame/annoy/etc. If there is a problem between people who are here to fanboy about their particular favorite artists and people who wander in and like to provoke the former, then I will choose the former over the latter any day since they "belong" here. People who post in the thread to stir shit up are not welcome, and action will be taken to remove them.

I'm loving this monkey analogy lol. And I do think more can be accomplished by encouraging ignoring flamebait then trying to stop trolls. There's only so much you can do aside from banning people to stop trolling and there's already a set of rules posted on the top of every page on this thread with half the lines having to do with trolling and hate.

If a sone did this people would derail the thread talking about how they aren't capable of spoiler their content.

On another note, M!Countdown in a couple of minues. I'm looking forward to see T-ara, WG, SNSD on the same show.

Sometimes an argument starts with a post that wasn't even intended to be a troll + Show Spoiler +

thanks for the 4minute gifs, this thread was getting unbearable with all the boyband and 2ne1 talk.
and then people take personal offense.

Just to make it clear, I'm not condoning people being overly sensitive or defensive about their particular favorite artists either. People need to realize when they're being trolled or flame-baited and shrug it off. If they expect people to be able to disregard their fanboying, then they should be expected to disregard reactions they get to it. At the very least, they should react in a mature and respectful manner, and not contribute to the flaming or animosity. People can't be thin-skinned and expect to survive on TL.

Isn't it kind of an unwritten rule that you're supposed to spoiler everything past the first image/video you post if you're going to post multiple ones?

And people mentioned it about cyric's post, just haven't gotten around to megaliskuu's. Its definately not an only-target-sones-who-cant-spoiler thing

Just got released, but considering they don't have any chance winning anything it's better to just start performing it straight away.
Their ballad Goodbye on the album is a lot better than Popx3 even though Popx3 had a lot of RaNia's signature move in it. On another note, Ji Hye is freaking scary.
