For those other 2NE1 fans (yes, I'm one):

I've been a fan of this group since they came out simply because they brought something very different to the Kpop scene from what was (and has) been being put out by everyone else, and because of the YG flair that all of their artists have. While they're certainly not going to win any contests involving physical appearance (although I know some of us think they're not quite as unattractive as this thread generally makes them out to be), I like the fact that each member has a unique look or feel to them.

A lot of people don't seem to like their songs, but I've liked most of them. I feel like they're music is more Western-styled, but I'm no expert. I feel like their music is more like what you'd hear in the US, and that it's generally fun music that I could imagine dancing to at a club. Fire started this trend, and remains probably my favorite song of theirs. I'll admit that I'm The Best didn't appeal to me right away, but the beat grew on me and I find myself bobbing my head to it when it comes on in the car.

I like that you can easily identify and distinguish the members in each of their songs. Obviously, it's a lot easier to do so in a smaller group (as opposed to a larger one like SNSD), but I really feel that each member has a very distinct sound. Their voices all stand out, even amongst other Kpop idols, who I feel all seem to strive for the same type of sound. I'm not going to pretend that 2NE1 are the best singers talent or technique-wise, but somehow their sound appeals to me and it's nothing something I hear in other Kpop groups.

2NE1tv has been fun to watch, and it's revealed the group to have some very interesting personalities. SNSD had a similar show (SNSD Goes To School or something?), and it's how I grew to like that group as well. I think it's entertaining, and great for fans, to get to know the group members off the stage, and it serves to just further distinguish the members from each other. I feel like this past season of 2NE1tv had way too much Dara on it, and that she tended to get too emo at times, but it was still entertaining enough. It's always cool to catch glimpses of the rest of the YG Family as well since they're generally quite reclusive.

Lastly, I think that of all the Kpop groups, they're the most capable of succeeding in the US or Western market. As I said above, I think their music is just more of a Western style and sounds like music I hear on the radio here. CL, Bom and Dara all have good English from living outside of Korea for significant periods of time, and Minzy has surprisingly good English for someone who's lived in Korea all her life (as you can hear when she performs songs like Take A Bow). YG also seems the most Western-friendly of all the major Korean music companies, and they have relationships with people like the Black Eyed Peas, Ludacris, Jeremy Scott, Diplo, etc. I remember Mobb Deep performing on a Jinusean track back in the day, so it's nothing new for them. I could see them releasing an English album and performing in English without having a significant accent (compare the English versions of Can't Nobody and The Boys and the difference is noticeable), and they'd be able to handle interviews well.
