- When posting large quantities of media (pictures or videos), please begin spoilering after the first piece. Grouping related videos in the same spoilers & labeling is recommended.
- No reposting of old material unless justified
- Posting any material with little or no relevent discussion accompanying it
- No passion-induced flaming of each other because 'x said y sucked' etc.
- Keep the expression hate of music individuals/groups to a minimal level
- No 'pagetopping' in any form whatsoever, as it constitutes spam equal to posts similar to 'first'.
- No vulgar fan fics or wet dream stories. It is creepy, weird, and it dehumanizes the people who you are here to celebrate/discuss.
- Normal posting standards that you find throughout the rest of the site still apply and will be enforced more strictly from here forward (2012/03/11)

Further details regarding KARA’s decision to terminate their exclusive contracts with DSP Media have been revealed through TV Report, Park Gyuri’s mother, and representatives of DSP Media.
TV Report claimed that industry representatives were aware of the issues surrounding KARA and their agency since December 2010. Representatives of DSP Media and Park Gyuri allege that the reason for the four members’ terminations was “eventually because of money.”
According to another industry representative, KARA brought in a total of $18 million USD in income from their Japanese promotions, but as of December 2010, the group was only paid $3,000 USD per person.

In g.o.d, JYP wanted to force out the rapper in the group, but the members hired an investigator and held a press conference to ensure that their brother stayed. In recent times, when JYP pulled the same stunt, the members of 2PM agreed to kick Jay Park out.
Same thing with Shinhwa, SM was considering getting rid of Andy (admittedly, he's pretty useless), but the members chipped in their own money to ensure that he stayed with the group. When they decided to leave, they left as a whole group. None of this nonsense breaking off without telling the others.
I can't see Kpop being the same anymore. People say it's just a phase, but this is destroying the industry. consider their ages....they have to depend on their parents to make decisions for them..which is apparently wht happened here. cant believe seungyeon went along with this...but i guess when u get paid that little it can get to you. as for the jay park fiasco...we still dont know what actually happened. if everyone voted him out then he mustve been a dick.

The jay park incident is a different situation, nothing similar to this one. He left because like any true american, he doesn't take shit from anyone (he posted "fuck korea" few years ago and koreans got butthurt about it and raged hard).
But this is about the money and the workload. If you read the article, they are getting ripped off by DSP and they are obviously working their ass off. We obviously don't know everything there is to know but the given information is enough to say that the kara members are the victims.

Since they only get 3000 dollars, they are technically not getting even 1%. Since there's 18 million and 15% of that goes to DSP that's 2.7 Million dollars. And getting 3000 would mean .1% per member.

The 3k is only album sales. the article states that at this time they haven't been paid for everything else yet, but they will be. Therefore, they will be making more money, but not much more.

My bad, must've missed that. But even after all that, how much would they really profit? It's not like CF,s appearances would boost a million.

No, but it puts their pay comparable to most kpop groups, who all get paid shit anyway. It's not like western artists who make millions just by sitting on their ass or getting drunk all day.

Wow, first time hearing that (I don't know too much the history of Kpop) but that's really awesome o_o. I wish DBSK stayed together, although it's not really the same situation as to what g.o.d/shinhwa guys had to deal with.

So anybody wanna give me a recap whats up with this Kara DSP thing going on?

That fuck korea thing from his myspace was a scapegoat reason by JYP. It was revealed ages ago and no one gave a damn. The real reason why he was forced out was because he revealed on his myspace that his contract was 10 years, which was bad for JYP because JYP's whole phony schtick was being the anti SM, but in reality they are just as bad. And of course the other members kicked him out, during Again & Again promotions, only Jay and Nichkhun were popular, so once Jay got out, the others were able to gain money and popularity. Taecyeon, the other American, profited the most from this. I hate that guy so much, he betrayed his fellow Korean American.
Still, can't totally blame the idols from doing this, the real culprits are the record companies, I don't think anyone would disagree with that statement.

The funny thing is that Jay's still worth almost as much as all of 2pm combined and more than any individual 2pm member in terms of ad revenue and ad worth (marketing value)
|
seems like kpop is still a very young industry, so the companies hold all the power and pay their idols peanuts. I don't know if it's just an economical/social cycle but this always happens in an emerging industry.
same thing with the UFC, they were paying their fighters so bad. Now it's getting better and better because of growing complaints from fans.
|
probably they pissed that SNSD get to ride on a private jet plane on their Japan-Korea tour schedule and they only get crappy 1st class seat
would be very funny if the agency that bought out the quartet contracts turned out to be SME.
|
and were paying them well lol...SM artists would be jealous, their contracts suck.

Lol,i just missed a bucketload of info here, what the hell just happaned?
This is what happens when you are trainees in this Industry, inevitably you either get sucked into long-term contracts with slavery like pay or you gtfo. Every K-pop artist his contract pretty much sucks due to the trainee system. I can't say I am suprised and i am worried if they actually have a leg to stand on in court.

Wait wait wait!! i thought taecyeon was only korean, not korean-american, and im sure he is. There was an article months ago that he was canceling his american residence (not citizenship) which is proof that he was never korean-american.

Taecyon was born in Korea, moved to America and moved back once again, so yeah he is not Korean-American but he is well, just Korean.
