Many people (especially these days) have great home cinema stations with extremely large TVs and decent surround sound effects, so often there is no reason to leave your home to watch a movie you like unless 1) The special effects are AWESOME MUST SEE OR 2) it's 3d Basically avatar has both, so it's an even more must see in the theater, but I can easily see why from now on pretty much every movie will be with 3d effects.

But it tells a different story. Avatar has almost the same story as Pocahontas, but its different at the same time. Avatar is much more historical and calls for WWI (the mask), WWII (the tanks/mechs), Vietnam (the helicopters), Iraq ("Shock and Awe", "Pre-emptive attack")...and well pre-WWI wars (with the Na'vi representing pre-WWI. In that sense, its deeper because its not about Iraq or any single war, but how we are as humans. and shit, it goes beyond wars and countries. It talks about us and that if we don't wise up, nature is going to fuck up. And its not even global warming, but just the fact that we are using 110 (most conservative estimation)-160% (most aggressive estimation) more resources than nature can replenish. So its very simple as a story, but touches on a universal theme.

Just saw it and was not really awed by the graphics/visuals but it's a real fun, exciting movie to watch.

The story was better than expected, not as "bad" as most say it is, although there were some cheesy parts that makes my face go "-_-". Overall story was still entertaining. Graphic wise, this movie is just on top of everything else out there right now. Would definitely recommend this movie to anyone.

The science makes no sense, the story is linear and predictable and beats you over the head with themes of 'technology BAD nature GOOD' / america in iraq lol. If you've played FF10 you've seen the forest in the movie. Alternatively, if you've taken hallucinogens and gone for a walk in the woods you've seen and experienced the forest in this movie. If someone used 300 million to make a kids movie, this would be it. /rant

But anyway, I don't see how anyone sees it as just "America in Iraq". There were clear Canadian criticisms- somehow its funny how none of the Canadian newspapers took a hint in it ![]()

A more technologically advanced civilization making contact with, taking advantage of, and exploiting another is as ancient as anything. Wow at the American narcissism .
