Some of the situations they got themselves into felt rather contrived. The ropeway in particular was pretty unlikely. I can kinda forgive it though, since they need stuff to happen to advance the plot. The actual missions were good. Outcomes seemed reasonable. They even managed to mention how the press judges survivors in the last mission. The girlfriend's parts felt useless and unrelated to the main plot. I'm pretty sure there's only a single episode where she speaks directly to the main character. The OVA was strange. It basically focused on a minor character for the entire thing. I quite liked the focus on running at the start in contrast with how he left after his retirement day. I always like it when the director assumes you're smart enough to figure it out instead of shoving it into your face.

(sao2 being shinon and that creepy friend) SAO, the first arc was the best one imo. Second arc needed work but I would still recommend you watch it just so that you can see how things develop since SAOII starts off with the idea that you already know what happened in SAO so you may miss some references if they mentioned them (don't remember if they did lol).

Yuuna's breakdown shows that she had actually been on a big hero complex rather than actually championing heroism and that was amazing. Seeing that she couldn't rely on Tougou was well executed. Even her resolve was broken. There were so many scenes that seemed small yet were so important to the characters. Seeing karin look at her phone right before the last fight or when Itsuki tried to talk to Fuu but nothing came out. And Karin's badass moment was on another level. You just want to cheer her on but then you realize what she's putting on the line and you want her to stop. I need to rewatch this series on blu-ray when it comes out just to pick up all the foreshadowing moments that were implemented in the whole series. Also, it would be awesome to see it with better animation. GAHH holy shit. Just looking at that picture, and reading what you said, making me think about Karin's fight, i teared up right there. Feels man. Feels. + Show Spoiler + based on the preview, i'm thinking yuki's gonna sacrifice herself and save everybody in the end. well...i guess that's typical...but Im so excited to see how they end this shit. It's been a wild ride for me....really really loving this show SAO .. Hmm. the first arc in season 1 was fantastic. Super good, really enjoyed it. The second arc had some cool parts and some good things about it that everybody overlooks b/c the bad things are just...really really bad. + Show Spoiler [massive season 1 spoilers] + I like the Alfheim world, it's fucking sweet, i would play that game a lot. The fight between kirito and the red guy when they save the two leaders, that was also fucking awesome. The part where kirito uses magic for like the only time and transforms into a fucking huge beast, that was also really fucking cool. And the fight with rape guy in the end (not like the whole fight, just the part where kirito uses the admin login to mind fuck that dude, and then kill him ingame)...And also, the scene outside the hospital was alright (it was interesting to see if kirito would really hold back and not just kill the fucker after all he put kirito and asuna through). That being said, basically everything with the cousin was bad. Everything with Asuna was also bad (maybe except the very end when kirito finally fucking gets to meet her...but it was still bad with the whole "im sorry i can't hear you, my hearings all fucked up still..but i understand what you're saying). The tentacle dudes, the main plot line of the dude testing mind control and all that shit was real dumb. Still, even though it had some really bad stuff in it, it had some pretty cool parts as well, while it doesn't stand up to Aincrad arc, Alfheim arc wasn't completely terrible. It's sort of the same with GGO and Mother's Rosario, they do have some pretty shitty story telling and parts that just suck ass...but there's also a few awesome things that stand out to me

And those are definitly to give you some harem vibe and not to merely show of human empathy. It's all about tone and details and I would have agreed with you (or never brought it up) if it would have been just human contact. Just for example: The scene where Kirito holds Sinon after their duel. The only reason why I interpreted it the way I did was because of how he held her. Grabbing her haunch and the pose was like those you see in movies when they are about to confess love/ask for a marriage etc. and kiss. I would have said nothing if he would have hold her with his arm/hand higher on her back.

Heh. It's actually getting adapted. I guess the fights should be pretty enough to watch. Hopefully they don't reach any of the awful plot twists.

Ofcourse they have harem vibes because well they need to check off harem from the otaku list. Same as having cat ears or tentacles or creepy rape dude etc. The author can't write actual romance, that's why he made Asuna into a talking fleshlight.
