I don't know how it's ruining anime.
It's literally not an anime.

Ehhh you must have very unrealistic standards I think... or maybe very specific taste? Sure it was no 2007 but between stuff like Konosuba, Mob Psycho 100, 3-gatsu no Lion (which admittedly did continue into the new year and will return soon), Diamond is not Crash etc. it was pretty good. And a slew of "lesser" but still pretty damn fun comedies and slice of life shows. Haven't watched the Rakugo show yet but it seems interesting and I know most of the people who watched it thought it was really good. Oh yeah ERASED was also a thing that happened, that was pretty good. Not every year can be full of 10/10s. But I'd be hard pressed to call it bad, let alone terrible. I think a year is terrible if I can't give a single 8 or higher and only a handful of 7s. That was 2016 for me. Konosuba is not for me, Mob Psycho had great animation but the plot sucked except for the last 4 episodes or so. I liked Rakugo, 3-gatsu and Erased. Tbf Rakugo s1 was probably great but not quite my cup of tea. I personally liked s2 a lot more. 3-gatsu could have been a real gem but was hunted by unnecessary comedy bits that destroyed the mood. If you genuinely believe that not a single one of the shows mentioned is an 8/10 then I honestly don't know what to tell you... One of two things I guess: - Either an unfortunate bad roll on your part in not really having any of them fully click with you - Or, if this happens to you a lot, I guess it might just be that we fundamentally disagree in our perception of the rating scale and how it should be used. Oh well. On September 28 2017 07:49 ZerOCoolSC2 wrote: If you guys care, Blade Runner 2022 is out. The animation quality and VA and everything is what we deserve from anime. It's made by the director of Cowboy Bebop/Samurai Champloo and I must say, damn it's a dazzling 15 minutes of amazing. Go find it and watch it. Blade Runner ;o Shit, gonna have to check this out soon lol.

Feel like they're all non-sequiturs. Anime has only grown since the release of that terrible DBZ adaptation years ago, Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim, and most recently Netflix's Death Note and the Ghost in the Shell film, which just speaks to how popular anime has become despite their less than stellar Western adaptations. If anything it's probably increased people's demand for the originals.

I get it; they're pandering to the long held belief (with some basis in reality) that in the West, an animated film is automatically perceived as a film for children, is going to be fun, etc. Just do a wider release of the damn actual animated movie. Dub it if you have to. I have yet to see a remake into live action done in the West that was anything close to what was in the anime, if people can just get past that "oh, it's a cartoon" mentality. (Of course, movie producers, cinema owners, and Hollywood sized distributors are probably some of the most conservative, slow to change people out there. Or else maybe they've run out of sequels and reboots they think are profitable.) For once, though, I agree somewhat with ZNF - the adaptations and remakes do tend to get more people interested in the originals, which may get them deeper into anime. Or it might cause some to go the way sharkie thinks. Either way, it's still fighting a cultural bias (at least in the US, though it's weakened in my lifetime) that animated automatically means it's a kid's movie. (Even though cartoons, in general, didn't start off that way.)

I think the cultural perception that "cartoons are for kids" is something a bit antiquated. It might have been the case like maybe 5-10 years ago, but it's far less prominent now. The popularity of stuff like Rick and Morty for instance has opened up the idea that animation can be targeted at an older audience. Also I think Pixar has always held firm to the belief that they can be equally meaningful to children and the parents that bring their kids to see their movies.

RIP Reuenetal :'( Cried more than I did when Yang was killed. Why does the author keep killing my favourite characters?!?!? Let's not forget the suicide by his subordinate. Only bright side is that Mittenmeyer is kinda confirmed to survive having adopted his child.

I don't mind the fanservice that much. I liked the date episode with Tendou in her bikini as well and all, but this felt like watching To Love Ru with all the jiggle-physics and mysterious beam of light as well as smoke. Just too much for me. This was glorious though: + Show Spoiler [pic] + ![]()
