Nadeko is kinda weird because EVERYONE in here besides Elem and me used to hate her. Nowadays it's not that extreme I think? Oh Kupon also likes Nadeko iirc Also I don't think I'd call anyone unpopular within Monogatari. You find fans for everyone and while Shinobu+Gahara usually end up being the top2 no matter what, for everyone else you have people loving them. | ||

She's essentially a selfish cowards that runs away from her problems by pretending they don't exist. Later on she becomes a confident young woman who knows what she wants and actively embraces both the good and bad. This happens through every season. Earlier seasons you tend to only get glimpses of her core issues but slowly you build an understanding of just how broken she is underneath all that mary sue-esque competence. Senjou gets a lot of love because I think she's one of the few woman in anime that are totally honest with themselves while actively going after what makes them happy. She's almost the direct opposite of Hanekawa whom runs away from happiness and lies to herself about everything. Well at least that's why I hope she gets love. More likely people like the snide banter and design. | ||

More likely people like the snide banter and design. I'd disagree with the first part. Yes that's how it ends up being but I don't think you get to see a lot of that. That's what I meant with "she's not that much of a character" because unlike Gahara a lot of that is left out while only stating how it came to be. Or at least you have significant holes here and there on purpose. Whereas with Gahara you really get a lot of detail as well as a point where you think you can get into her head. A lot about Hanekawa is kept more as a mystery for large portions of the series imo. Which perhaps is her appeal to some | ||

My top five are probably Motoko from GitS:SAC, Watashi from Jinrui, Fredrica from LotGH and Anna & Saori from Hourou Musuko. You can add Holo from Spice & Wolf as well. I didn't hate them btw.
