Diebuster is the second season of Gunbuster, isn't it? I still have Gunbuster on my ptw, I haven't watched it yet. I just thought I would start FLCL now considering a new anime is coming out later this year.

Diebuster is a sequel to gunbuster, i wouldn't call it a second season though. But i would also say that it's a pretty big mistake to watch diebuster without having watched gunbuster, and yet i know people who have done it.

Gunbuster should definitely be watched first. The two shows are pretty different, but they way the endings of the two tie together was just soooo great.
Gunbuster is great, btw. Its a must-watch classic.

I teared up at the ending of gunbuster and cried like a baby at the ending of diebuster. Such great endings.

I think people are misunderstanding Eromanga Sensei's Megumi when she talks about shutting off the internet at the Izumi household. She's not saying that we should get rid of the internet entirely and live in caves again; she infers that Sagiri never leaves her room because she's using her computer all day (and she's absolutely spot on with that assumption, mind you), and suggests turning off the internet to help Sagiri with her addiction.

She's so evil for wanting to help her classmate.

She seeks to break Sagiri from her hikikomori ways by severing her last link to the outside world in a traumatic fashion.
This... is not a good way of addressing what may be a profound psychological condition. Then again, Japanese culture as a whole has only recently begun to address psychological conditions.

I'm no psychiatrist but what else are you supposed to do? Nothing works.
The way I see it, the internet is a drug for Sagiri. If you want someone to stop doing drugs, you need to cut off their supply of drugs.

... and forcing someone to quit drugs cold turkey is also a way of damaging them further. She's not addicted to the internet - she's closed herself off from the outside world and the internet is her one lifeline out of her room that allows her to feel some connection to people around her. The solution is not to cut off that lifeline. It's not addiction they're dealing with, but extreme social anxiety and potentially agoraphobia. Even if it were addiction, a psychologist will tell you that you cannot stop an addict unless you can first convince the addict to want to stop. All other methods are doomed to fail, one way or another.

If you want someone to stop doing drugs, you need to cut off their supply of drugs. I don't really see it as a drug. It's not like she's wasting her life playing facebook games online or whatever else. She's drawing and using the Internet as a means to communicate with people to get some social interaction, be it through streams or whatever, since she's not leaving her room otherwise. In that way rather than seeing it as a drug it's a means to get something else (communication with people) imo. Which obviously is also a problem but I don't think cutting the internet cables would work either.
I mean realistically speaking you would want their parents/their guardian who's supposed to exist but too busy to look after them arrange some professional help. But that would hardly be entertaining to watch and it stops the whole "2 kids living all by themselves" anime theme

I'll take your word for it. Like I said, I'm not well-versed in mental illnesses. And even if I was, I don't know that much about Sagiri or her past. I just made my post because I was annoyed at the people (mostly in jest) going "OMG SHE WANTS TO DESTROY THE INTERNET REEEEEE" like real life versions of Sagiri.

Hikikomori is a thing that is popping up in Japan and has been showing up in anime for a bit now. I don't know that anyone here would've gone that route, though... of course, if you're looking at MAL or Reddit, it's quite possible people were going reeeeee.

Diebuster is much more bizarre, a bit more in line with FLCL. Gunbuster has the more classic mecha anime feel to it (plus you can see a lot of NGE's roots in there). They're different anime in the same universe, more or less

Again, Megumi wasn't saying that we should get rid of the internet; she was simply saying that she thinks Sagiri should be cut off from it.
If Megumi thinks the internet should be destroyed, why would she have a smart phone?

First 3 eps of SNK S2 have been so lackluster. I guess it got kind of interesting at the end of the last ep. Also what's up with the poor animation, did they fire half of the department in between seasons.

I mean i just think cutting people off the internet is, while not as bad as destroying it, also really cruel and evil.
