See, this is something I have been wondering as well... I've watched the first season when it aired and I'm currently watching S2, yet I don't understand all those "this is the best episode ever" comments. They have been making the same jokes for the same characters since pretty much introducing them, with Darkness being the worst offender of them all. There are a bunch of "haha, she has a fetish for being abused" jokes in pretty much every episode. It might have been funny the first time around, but after making the same joke dozens of time, I cannot help but be reminded of THAT guy the group who tells the same joke over and over and over again just to get some cheap laughs.
I like humor a lot. But laughs have to be earned and I don't see anything in Konosuba that would earn it. Honestly I don't think that there was a single scene this season that managed to get more than a tired smile out of me. Most jokes are incredibly cheap, overused and can be seen coming from miles away.

As soon as the girl entered the scene, I knew how it would play out... because they made the same jokes 3-4 times before that scene already. I get it, everyone in this town is a crazy Axis person that wants them to join their cult. I can understand why some people find the joke funny when they did it first with the apple woman... The next duo of cult members was enough to convey the "see? they are crazy cult members, isn't that funny?" to even the slowest of watchers. But after that point you are beating a dead horse.
If that happens every now and then, no big deal... it's certainly not good writing but stuff like this happens.
It becomes a big problem if it happens in almost every episode half a dozen times.
During the same episode, they recycled yet another joke with the caravan.
The group attracts a bunch of monsters, causes problem for the caravan, they solve the problem, people want to thank them while Kazuma wants to apologize for causing the problem. Again I can see how that would be funny (to some) the first time it happens with the Kites... but after that scene we get an almost identical one with pretty much the exact same joke: Undead being drawn to Aqua, Aqua solves the problem, people want to thank them, Kazuma wants to apologize for causing the trouble.
I know that humor can be subjective... Some folks simply find other things funny than I do. No problem.
But this season of Konosuba especially has been a showcase of terrible and lazy writing, no matter how you look at it.

konosuba is superb really. you should watch it.
WA2 was good overall, but it's one of those.. dark animes I suppose. I got a very Kimi ga nozomu Eien vibe from it.

No best girls in WA2 though, they were all shit. All the characters were horrible in WA2 really. I mean, they're not bad in a sence that they were cliche and whatnot, they were just horrible people. I can't have a horrible person be a "best girl"

I already watched season 1 of konosuba, there's a reason why i'm not touching season 2 (art and repetitive comedy) and Nezgar's post just solidified my decision to not do so.
Also Touma is most definitely the best girl in WA2 by sheer virtue of not being Setsuna.

No idea what the last two series are. Kimi ga nozomu eien is more like a school days to me. I enjoyed it but I don't like them compared to WA2. You should read the real Age masterpiece instead of Kimi ga nozomu eien, muv luv alternative. That has literally everything in it.
I can't really think of a show like white album 2. But for a romance drama I like Ef a tale of memories/melodies and that has a pretty decent anime adaption as well.

I heard the game was written by a author who mostly writes literary fiction and he was scouted by mages despite having never played a visual novel. This just feels less anime and that's a pretty nice feeling. Also, some people I follow that reads tons of vns said it was really good too.

Not douchebag or dark for the sake of being dark, but I love suffering. When I see characters I like really suffer for real with real consequences, it is the best feeling. I don't feel that the characters in kuzu no honkai really suffer for example but I feel touma, setsuna, and haruki's suffering

Humor is incredibly subjective. I haven't watched Konosuba, nor am I interested in it, but from what you just said it sounds like exactly the type of comedy that would bore the hell out of me.

give ep1 of season 1 a chance and see for yourself? It's one of those shows where it's incredibly easy to tell if you're going to like it or not. If you got passed the first scene, Aqua and Kazuma meeting without laughing it's probably not your kind of thing.
Also a shame Laura didn't get a single vote for IS poll. She's 2nd best girl after all
