It's definitely worth it. You won't be disappointed. It's hard to just jump in now, since so much has happened, you would be lost. You can probably start at the Yoshiwara arc and be fine. That's around Ep 240 or so. These past two seasons have skipped all of the filler and just sticks to the main story, so there's no filler to worry about. Edit: If you don't want to watch a lot of the episodes, reading it will be much faster and you'll catch up.

Gintama has a lot of stand alone episodes and smaller arcs. You could find a solid arc or two and watch those and see if it is up your alley. I personally started from the beginning on a whim, I put it off for a long time because I didn't think I would like it but I gave it a shot and then got so into it I binged watched then read all the anime and the manga in the span of like two months. I would say it starts off kinda slow comparatively because the early episodes....while solid and good enough on their own pale in how awesome the rest is. Actually I skipped around a bit and watched like the 1st 20~ then skipped to where the best girl 1st appeared then did a weird thing where I would watch some counting down from where I skipped to and watched some from where I had left off in the 20s. The story doesn't settle down into a series of arcs that are all heading towards the final overarching arc until near the end, but a lot of the smaller arcs in the mid range build up to it. Its a great series.

What I've noticed is that background characters aren't as detailed as they used to be. I'm assuming this is due to the late night slot, as well as a reduced budget. With no fillers, the show must be struggling to finish. I hope it finishes and doesn't end with some horribly drawn animation. Gintama deserves at least 2 more movies after the run, and a Naruto level of ending when the time comes (animation quality)

It wasn't the bombastically over-the-top fun that last week's episode was, but I enjoyed how they parodied Twilight and how insane that parody's story got. There isn't that much overarching plot development yet, but I at least appreciate Trigger focusing on developing characters for now. It'll be better in the long run when they may start ramping up the plot and character arcs, and I think this show has a chance to really blow up when it gets onto Netflix and resonates with the Harry Potter crowd. I have to disagree, especially with the "but I at least appreciate Trigger focusing on developing characters for now." part. I didn't really learn anything new about any of the characters. Akko is the impulsive girl that goes in with blazing guns and thinks later. Lotte is the compassionate nerdy character. Sucy is the cold one that cares mostly about poisons and mushrooms and that kind of stuff. Other girls are mostly painted as mean ones that talk behind people's backs and tell the teachers if they get a chance to do so. Nothing of that was new in this episode. All those things have been established before and in a much less constructed way. This episode was the token "I guess we have to build characters now" episode, which was really disappointing. It had nothing of the fast pace and great visuals from the previous episodes. And, let's be honest here, the series lives from the fast pace and nice visuals, not from the characters having complex personalities that need to be explored in an entire episode. I am somewhat worried that the next episode will be a background story for Sucy, with a similar clumsy pacing.

I've caught up on the manga and it's a monthly release of short chapters - just wanted to know how much they had to pad out the individual episodes if it's 22-ish minutes per episode. That being said they don't have to follow the manga perfectly anyway since there's a lot of scope for fun adventures with the characters.

The only thing I really cared for were all the different outfits. But you really have to give credit for that. All the different outfits that Satania and Vigne are getting through the episodes are great... oh well here goes hoping ep5 will be better again I liked the episode, nothing THAT funny but it doesn't change the opinion on the series for me. The scenes with Raphiel and Satania were pretty good. ACCA: 13-ku Kansatsu-ka was good again, interesting anime.

For my part, I love the whole show. you weren't joking haha. Ya, the climax is reached for sure but I think part of me also prefers the current pacing and mystery aspect. Lots of stuff to think about, revelations etc... I have to say though: + Show Spoiler + the whole mental gymnastics was a bit annoying when they were facing Samon in the first half. Like, do I really need 2 whole episodes of bluffing, prodding etc... I was glad to see the princess finally confess her feelings and to see Mashiro is still adamant about his goal but has lost his psychotic tendencies as the show progressed. Also, the whole mage of exodus, could the tree of genesis have killed Aika and what are the two trees? Superweapons? etc... that part was nice, felt like a good mystery to solve. The whole time travel stuff is a bit bizzare but I guess I can just say magic etc... Just got to the part where Aika confessed to being the mage of exodus on the rooftop when the princess of genesis returned to the past. If you asked me regarding that, I wouldn't have thought she would be the mage. I kept wondering if maybe Yoshino killed her for some reason or maybe the princess herself because they kept talking about it the previous episode. I also kept juggling the idea of Aika killing herself but then the magic should've showed this and when Mashiro discovered her, it should've been obvious. Reason I say this is because she kept quoting Hamlet and then the tempest everytime she was shown, as if to say that something will happen to her or she'll die etc... At one point, she even asked Yoshino if he wouldn't be happy to see her ghost. Like, who says that and other similar mysterious things all the time? Can't wait to see how they solve this and make it a happy ending at that.

+ Show Spoiler + Ya, action definitely went down in the second half aside from Hakaze vs Aika and maybe the mage of exodus vs the tree of genesis at the end. I had my thoughts on Aika killing herself but to see that it actually happened! lol. Glad to see a happy ending and closure for both Yoshino and Mahiro, can only imagine it must've been an extremely exhausting journey. Would've liked it if the show gave a bit more Yoshino x Hakaze moments now that the Aika situation has been put to rest but again, it's not meant to be a romantic anime anyways.
