They built her character all season, to have almost zero screen time of her in the last two episodes. The whole teacher-love-obsession was.. yeah, bad. Other than that, I liked the season and the show. They didn't really build on her much this season. That was mostly last season. There were a few episodes where she was shown getting along well with Kumiko but that was it. Rest of the season was Kumiko dealing with/observing random drama with the older years.
Yeah, you are right. I should've mentioned and worded it better that I pretty much watched season 1 and 2 (excluding the last three episodes) back to back.

So far this season seemed to really devolve over time with the only real highlight being the amazing performance they did. I'm a person that quite likes the drama between the girls. It's just that they really gutted other characters to achieve rather boring drama arcs. Asuka's story could have been the backdrop for the whole season with the sister character serving as a nice parallel but instead they shoved that story into 2-3 episodes with a barely hashed conclusion that didn't involve us ever seeing the actual parties coming to terms. That's sad as it's a really interesting subject matter especially for Asian families(This is a bit of a generalization, apologies to any offended parties). I come from a household that'll support any path I choose in life so seeing these families struggle with this concept then come to a resolution is rather interesting. They just completely butchered doing it.
A 15 year old highschool girl having a obsession with an older male teacher isn't cute. Is this just a cultural thing where it's ok for high girls to try date way older men? Maybe if she was 25 and he was 40 it'd be fine but 15? Come on that's just creepy. It's not love. Reina barely knows what it means to be a person, how can she know what it means to love someone? She barely even knows who the teacher is, she didn't even know he had a wife ffs. I guess this comes back to animes obsession with characters falling in love before actually interacting. It's a bit sick. You can't love someone you don't know. That's just lust.
Overall this season felt rushed due to having these filler threads that didn't do much. The side characters weren't even bad, I quite liked the upbeat girl that's got that shy one all into her tits. It's just that they sacrificed too much of everyone else to throw in side characters then just discard them later. Basically whole cast of S1 outside of leads were forgotten about this season.

If you gonna do a Asian themed dinner then just do it family style.

Gonna spoiler just in case + Show Spoiler [ufo] +Maybe it's cause I've heard rumors of one of my high school teachers ending up marrying a high school student (after she graduated iirc) that I don't find it that particularly weird. She's known the teacher since she was a kid, he was a friend of her father's and taught her private music lessons when she was younger, and she's had that crush on him ever since. He apparently hasn't even told anyone about his wife, and she died relatively young so not surprised if she doesn't know (or just plot convenient). My defense for her is that I think she really idolizes him, and since she is at that age, she confuses it as love.
As for Asuka/Kumiko's sister's arc, didn't really feel that rushed. I thought it concluded very well, and drew a nice parallel between present/future under different choices. Kumiko's sister wasn't strong enough to oppose her parent's wishes and had that regret til near the end of college, where she finally decides she wants to do what she wants. Kind of eases and explains their relationship at the beginning of the series. Asuka's part I can agree never really needed the help, she was studying for her exams and once she got sick marks, her mom couldn't really say much more. But it got her and Kumiko really close :3. Though it did show how important she was both in terms of personal skill, and morale of the entire band without her there.

About Reina and the teacher etc:
+ Show Spoiler +I don't think the idea of Reina having feelings towards her childhood teacher and a family friend was the issue, but the fact that the story dragged on far too long. She got 'shut down' twice? She even realized that herself by going to Taki's wife's grave. I feel like they could've wrapped that there and continue with the promise of winning the nationals for her and the teacher. But naw.
I agree with you on the Asuka/Kumiko and her sister arc(s), also how they handled Shuiichi's childhood crush with Kumiko. Glad they didn't try to ship that shit in the last couple episodes.
I don't know. I just feel they could've done much more with Reina story wise.
Also, this video sums up this show pretty well

Nekopara OVA Kickstarter Launches, Meets Goal in 1 Hour
Video game and manga publisher Sekai Project's Kickstarter campaign met its initial goal of US$100,000 to create an anime OVA adaptation of Sayori and NEKO WORKs' NEKOPARA adult visual novel on Thursday, within one hour of the Kickstarter's launch.
The initial goal of US$100,000 will go towards a 20 minute OVA, but Sekai Project revealed that every US$100,000 afterward will extend the OVA by 10 minutes to a maximum of $500,000 and 60 minutes. As of press time, the project has earned US$265,780. The campaign will end on February 11. hahaha, the fact that it's already sold out
they said 500k is the max. 100k = 20minutes OVA, every other 100k = 10 more minutes so max 60 minute OVA... I kind of see this happening considering they got half of that this quickly and got 43 days to go

At this rate the nekopara kickstarter is going to surpass the muv luv kickstarter. Hopefully the DI kickstarter doesn't crash and burn in the meantime, I want a good chuuni VN because tokyo babel is so damn mediocre.

Flip Flappers is over!
I think this show probably earn my AOTY for 2016. Cute-ish story with likeable characters. Great visuals + music. The ending was ok, a little confusing. Reading the discussion on Reddit helped me realized that there were many things that I missed.
I should probably rewatch eventually!

Finished Girlish Number. Only complaint was that I think they could've probably extended the last 2 episodes, maybe made them into 3 episodes or something for impact purposes. Overall though, I enjoyed it especially with the different character personalities.

Judging from the comments about Eupho, my experience in high school band must have been significantly different from other peoples'. Because from what I saw, it pretty much nailed a lot of the atmosphere I remember (except, perhaps, that no one had a crush on our teacher (at least, not the high school one)) and showed a lot of the things that happen in high school band that I remember - friends and cliques, petty drama from nothing that felt like it was massively important that turned out to be really not a damn thing in the long run, hard work with the only payoff being a good performance, and some closer friendships. Competition, drama, music, etc.
I'm not going to say it's AOTY, but I enjoyed Eupho.
+ Show Spoiler [Reina] + Seriously, Reina's borderline creepy crush on the teacher is not that uncommon for a young, good teacher. Or even an old good teacher. Taki-sensei handled it as a good teacher is probably going to - ignore it mostly, gently try to get the student to move on, and not encourage them at all. Because high school girls are crazy. Boys too, not being sexist, but I think there's a reason lots of yandere seems rooted in high school.
... Above video also pretty spot on.

+ Show Spoiler [Reina] +Sure, teenage crushes are common. What I take issue with is how it was portrayed. When Reina's doing the craziest shit, it's shown as being endearing, with the requisite music and all. So there's this huge disconnect between how I feel about this situation, and how the author/director thinks I should feel.
It's pretty similar to how the timeskip of Usagi Drop made everything seem fine and dandy when it was very much not.
As for petty drama, that's something I can do without in anime unless there's actual writing to back it up. Realistic teenage drama is not equivalent to enjoyable drama.
Overall, I don't think the pacing of the story worked at all. This is most apparent in the flashbacks in the last episode. These kinds of flashback sequences are supposed to double as a nostalgic trip for both the main character and the viewer, highlighting the journey so far. It's why it works in Aria, because Akari goes on a ton of unique adventures. It's why it works in One Piece + Show Spoiler +when they send off the Going Merry. In contrast, Eupho shows off a bunch of scenes from the marching band, and a some random practices that I can't even place. I guess you can argue that it's supposed to be about the sadness of how the group will no longer be the same, but the shot selection didn't seem to suggest that at all. It's not like the show is lacking in personal scenes and memorable moments.
Brave witches is over. Despite it sucking horribly, the final ep was decent. Strike Witches was far more fun. At least the OVA will have Eila/Sanya again.

I was the lazy ones when I was in band for high school, and quit after second year. + Show Spoiler +still made nationals though cause our school's music program was that good :D. Not to mention we'd get those invites and not go either cause money, or too far, or both /subtlebrag =\
pretty nostalgic thinking about it now.
